¹Give ear, ye heavens, and I will speak; And let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

¹Cieux! prêtez l'oreille, et je parlerai; Terre! écoute les paroles de ma bouche.

¹האזינו השמים ואדברה ותשמע הארץ אמרי פי׃

²My doctrine shall drop as the rain; My speech shall distil as the dew, As the small rain upon the tender grass, And as the showers upon the herb.

²Que mes instructions se répandent comme la pluie, Que ma parole tombe comme la rosée, Comme des ondées sur la verdure, Comme des gouttes d'eau sur l'herbe!

²יערף כמטר לקחי תזל כטל אמרתי כשעירם עלי דשא וכרביבים עלי עשב׃

³For I will proclaim the name of Jehovah: Ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

³Car je proclamerai le nom de l'Eternel. Rendez gloire à notre Dieu!

³כי שם יהוה אקרא הבו גדל לאלהינו׃

⁴The Rock, his work is perfect; For all his ways are justice: A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, Just and right is he.

⁴Il est le rocher; ses oeuvres sont parfaites, Car toutes ses voies sont justes; C'est un Dieu fidèle et sans iniquité, Il est juste et droit.

⁴הצור תמים פעלו כי כל דרכיו משפט אל אמונה ואין עול צדיק וישר הוא׃

⁵They have dealt corruptly with him, [they are] not his children, [it is] their blemish; [They are] a perverse and crooked generation.

⁵S'ils se sont corrompus, à lui n'est point la faute; La honte est à ses enfants, Race fausse et perverse.

⁵שחת לו לא בניו מומם דור עקש ופתלתל׃

⁶Do ye thus requite Jehovah, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? He hath made thee, and established thee.

⁶Est-ce l'Eternel que vous en rendrez responsable, Peuple insensé et dépourvu de sagesse? N'est-il pas ton père, ton créateur? N'est-ce pas lui qui t'a formé, et qui t'a affermi?

⁶ה ליהוה תגמלו זאת עם נבל ולא חכם הלוא הוא אביך קנך הוא עשך ויכננך׃

⁷Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations: Ask thy father, and he will show thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee.

⁷Rappelle à ton souvenir les anciens jours, Passe en revue les années, génération par génération, Interroge ton père, et il te l'apprendra, Tes vieillards, et ils te le diront.

⁷זכר ימות עולם בינו שנות דור ודור שאל אביך ויגדך זקניך ויאמרו לך׃

⁸When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, When he separated the children of men, He set the bounds of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel.

⁸Quand le Très-Haut donna un héritage aux nations, Quand il sépara les enfants des hommes, Il fixa les limites des peuples D'après le nombre des enfants d'Israël,

⁸בהנחל עליון גוים בהפרידו בני אדם יצב גבלת עמים למספר בני ישראל׃

⁹For Jehovah's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

⁹Car la portion de l'Eternel, c'est son peuple, Jacob est la part de son héritage.

⁹כי חלק יהוה עמו יעקב חבל נחלתו׃

¹⁰He found him in a desert land, And in the waste howling wilderness; He compassed him about, he cared for him, He kept him as the apple of his eye.

¹⁰Il l'a trouvé dans une contrée déserte, Dans une solitude aux effroyables hurlements; Il l'a entouré, il en a pris soin, Il l'a gardé comme la prunelle de son oeil,

¹⁰ימצאהו בארץ מדבר ובתהו ילל ישמן יסבבנהו יבוננהו יצרנהו כאישון עינו׃

¹¹As an eagle that stirreth up her nest, That fluttereth over her young, He spread abroad his wings, he took them, He bare them on his pinions.

¹¹Pareil à l'aigle qui éveille sa couvée, Voltige sur ses petits, Déploie ses ailes, les prend, Les porte sur ses plumes.

¹¹כנשר יעיר קנו על גוזליו ירחף יפרש כנפיו יקחהו ישאהו על אברתו׃

¹²Jehovah alone did lead him, And there was no foreign god with him.

¹²L'Eternel seul a conduit son peuple, Et il n'y avait avec lui aucun dieu étranger.

¹²יהוה בדד ינחנו ואין עמו אל נכר׃

¹³He made him ride on the high places of the earth, And he did eat the increase of the field; And he made him to suck honey out of the rock, And oil out of the flinty rock;

¹³Il l'a fait monter sur les hauteurs du pays, Et Israël a mangé les fruits des champs; Il lui a fait sucer le miel du rocher, L'huile qui sort du rocher le plus dur,

¹³ירכבהו על במותי ארץ ויאכל תנובת שדי וינקהו דבש מסלע ושמן מחלמיש צור׃

¹⁴Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock, With fat of lambs, And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, With the finest of the wheat; And of the blood of the grape thou drankest wine.

¹⁴La crème des vaches et le lait des brebis, Avec la graisse des agneaux, Des béliers de Basan et des boucs, Avec la fleur du froment; Et tu as bu le sang du raisin, le vin.

¹⁴חמאת בקר וחלב צאן עם חלב כרים ואילים בני בשן ועתודים עם חלב כליות חטה ודם ענב תשתה חמר׃

¹⁵But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: Thou art waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art become sleek; Then he forsook God who made him, And lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

¹⁵Israël est devenu gras, et il a regimbé; Tu es devenu gras, épais et replet! -Et il a abandonné Dieu, son créateur, Il a méprisé le rocher de son salut,

¹⁵וישמן ישרון ויבעט שמנת עבית כשית ויטש אלוה עשהו וינבל צור ישעתו׃

¹⁶They moved him to jealousy with strange [gods]; With abominations provoked they him to anger.

¹⁶Ils ont excité sa jalousie par des dieux étrangers, Ils l'ont irrité par des abominations;

¹⁶יקנאהו בזרים בתועבת יכעיסהו׃

¹⁷They sacrificed unto demons, [which were] no God, To gods that they knew not, To new [gods] that came up of late, Which your fathers dreaded not.

¹⁷Ils ont sacrifié à des idoles qui ne sont pas Dieu, A des dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient point, Nouveaux, venus depuis peu, Et que vos pères n'avaient pas craints.

¹⁷יזבחו לשדים לא אלה אלהים לא ידעום חדשים מקרב באו לא שערום אבתיכם׃

¹⁸Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, And hast forgotten God that gave thee birth.

¹⁸Tu as abandonné le rocher qui t'a fait naître, Et tu as oublié le Dieu qui t'a engendré.

¹⁸צור ילדך תשי ותשכח אל מחללך׃

¹⁹And Jehovah saw [it], and abhorred [them], Because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

¹⁹L'Eternel l'a vu, et il a été irrité, Indigné contre ses fils et ses filles.

¹⁹וירא יהוה וינאץ מכעס בניו ובנתיו׃

²⁰And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: For they are a very perverse generation, Children in whom is no faithfulness.

²⁰Il a dit: Je leur cacherai ma face, Je verrai quelle sera leur fin; Car c'est une race perverse, Ce sont des enfants infidèles.

²⁰ויאמר אסתירה פני מהם אראה מה אחריתם כי דור תהפכת המה בנים לא אמן בם׃

²¹They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; They have provoked me to anger with their vanities: And I will move them to jealousy with those that are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

²¹Ils ont excité ma jalousie par ce qui n'est point Dieu, Ils m'ont irrité par leurs vaines idoles; Et moi, j'exciterai leur jalousie par ce qui n'est point un peuple, Je les irriterai par une nation insensée.

²¹הם קנאוני בלא אל כעסוני בהבליהם ואני אקניאם בלא עם בגוי נבל אכעיסם׃

²²For a fire is kindled in mine anger, And burneth unto the lowest Sheol, And devoureth the earth with its increase, And setteth on fire the foundations of the mountains.

²²Car le feu de ma colère s'est allumé, Et il brûlera jusqu'au fond du séjour des morts; Il dévorera la terre et ses produits, Il embrasera les fondements des montagnes.

²²כי אש קדחה באפי ותיקד עד שאול תחתית ותאכל ארץ ויבלה ותלהט מוסדי הרים׃

²³I will heap evils upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them:

²³J'accumulerai sur eux les maux, J'épuiserai mes traits contre eux.

²³אספה עלימו רעות חצי אכלה בם׃

²⁴[They shall be] wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat And bitter destruction; And the teeth of beasts will I send upon them, With the poison of crawling things of the dust.

²⁴Ils seront desséchés par la faim, consumés par la fièvre Et par des maladies violentes; J'enverrai parmi eux la dent des bêtes féroces Et le venin des serpents.

²⁴מזי רעב ולחמי רשף וקטב מרירי ושן בהמות אשלח בם עם חמת זחלי עפר׃

²⁵Without shall the sword bereave, And in the chambers terror; [It shall destroy] both young man and virgin, The suckling with the man of gray hairs.

²⁵Au dehors, on périra par l'épée, Et au dedans, par d'effrayantes calamités: Il en sera du jeune homme comme de la jeune fille, De l'enfant à la mamelle comme du vieillard.

²⁵מחוץ תשכל חרב ומחדרים אימה גם בחור גם בתולה יונק עם איש שיבה׃

²⁶I said, I would scatter them afar, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men;

²⁶Je voudrais dire: Je les emporterai d'un souffle, Je ferai disparaître leur mémoire d'entre les hommes!

²⁶אמרתי אפאיהם אשביתה מאנוש זכרם׃

²⁷Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should judge amiss, Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted, And Jehovah hath not done all this.

²⁷Mais je crains les insultes de l'ennemi, Je crains que leurs adversaires ne se méprennent, Et qu'ils ne disent: Notre main a été puissante, Et ce n'est pas l'Eternel qui a fait toutes ces choses.

²⁷לולי כעס אויב אגור פן ינכרו צרימו פן יאמרו ידינו רמה ולא יהוה פעל כל זאת׃

²⁸For they are a nation void of counsel, And there is no understanding in them.

²⁸C'est une nation qui a perdu le bon sens, Et il n'y a point en eux d'intelligence.

²⁸כי גוי אבד עצות המה ואין בהם תבונה׃

²⁹Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would consider their latter end!

²⁹S'ils étaient sages, voici ce qu'ils comprendraient, Et ils penseraient à ce qui leur arrivera.

²⁹לו חכמו ישכילו זאת יבינו לאחריתם׃

³⁰How should one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Except their Rock had sold them, And Jehovah had delivered them up?

³⁰Comment un seul en poursuivrait-il mille, Et deux en mettraient-ils dix mille en fuite, Si leur Rocher ne les avait vendus, Si l'Eternel ne les avait livrés?

³⁰איכה ירדף אחד אלף ושנים יניסו רבבה אם לא כי צורם מכרם ויהוה הסגירם׃

³¹For their rock is not as our Rock, Even our enemies themselves being judges.

³¹Car leur rocher n'est pas comme notre Rocher, Nos ennemis en sont juges.

³¹כי לא כצורנו צורם ואיבינו פלילים׃

³²For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, And of the fields of Gomorrah: Their grapes are grapes of gall, Their clusters are bitter:

³²Mais leur vigne est du plant de Sodome Et du terroir de Gomorrhe; Leurs raisins sont des raisins empoisonnés, Leurs grappes sont amères;

³²כי מגפן סדם גפנם ומשדמת עמרה ענבמו ענבי רוש אשכלת מררת למו׃

³³Their wine is the poison of serpents, And the cruel venom of asps.

³³Leur vin, c'est le venin des serpents, C'est le poison cruel des aspics.

³³חמת תנינם יינם וראש פתנים אכזר׃

³⁴Is not this laid up in store with me, Sealed up among my treasures?

³⁴Cela n'est-il pas caché près de moi, Scellé dans mes trésors?

³⁴הלא הוא כמס עמדי חתם באוצרתי׃

³⁵Vengeance is mine, and recompense, At the time when their foot shall slide: For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.

³⁵A moi la vengeance et la rétribution, Quand leur pied chancellera! Car le jour de leur malheur est proche, Et ce qui les attend ne tardera pas.

³⁵לי נקם ושלם לעת תמוט רגלם כי קרוב יום אידם וחש עתדת למו׃

³⁶For Jehovah will judge his people, And repent himself for his servants; When he seeth that [their] power is gone, And there is none [remaining], shut up or left at large.

³⁶L'Eternel jugera son peuple; Mais il aura pitié de ses serviteurs, En voyant que leur force est épuisée, Et qu'il n'y a plus ni esclave ni homme libre.

³⁶כי ידין יהוה עמו ועל עבדיו יתנחם כי יראה כי אזלת יד ואפס עצור ועזוב׃

³⁷And he will say, Where are their gods, The rock in which they took refuge;

³⁷Il dira: Où sont leurs dieux, Le rocher qui leur servait de refuge,

³⁷ואמר אי אלהימו צור חסיו בו׃

³⁸Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, [And] drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up and help you, Let them be your protection.

³⁸Ces dieux qui mangeaient la graisse de leurs victimes, Qui buvaient le vin de leurs libations? Qu'ils se lèvent, qu'ils vous secourent, Qu'ils vous couvrent de leur protection!

³⁸אשר חלב זבחימו יאכלו ישתו יין נסיכם יקומו ויעזרכם יהי עליכם סתרה׃

³⁹See now that I, even I, am he, And there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; And there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

³⁹Sachez donc que c'est moi qui suis Dieu, Et qu'il n'y a point de dieu près de moi; Je fais vivre et je fais mourir, Je blesse et je guéris, Et personne ne délivre de ma main.

³⁹ראו עתה כי אני אני הוא ואין אלהים עמדי אני אמית ואחיה מחצתי ואני ארפא ואין מידי מציל׃

⁴⁰For I lift up my hand to heaven, And say, As I live for ever,

⁴⁰Car je lève ma main vers le ciel, Et je dis: Je vis éternellement!

⁴⁰כי אשא אל שמים ידי ואמרתי חי אנכי לעלם׃

⁴¹If I whet my glittering sword, And my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine adversaries, And will recompense them that hate me.

⁴¹Si j'aiguise l'éclair de mon épée Et si ma main saisit la justice, Je me vengerai de mes adversaires Et je punirai ceux qui me haïssent;

⁴¹אם שנותי ברק חרבי ותאחז במשפט ידי אשיב נקם לצרי ולמשנאי אשלם׃

⁴²I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

⁴²Mon épée dévorera leur chair, Et j'enivrerai mes flèches de sang, Du sang des blessés et des captifs, De la tête des chefs de l'ennemi.

⁴²אשכיר חצי מדם וחרבי תאכל בשר מדם חלל ושביה מראש פרעות אויב׃

⁴³Rejoice, O ye nations, [with] his people: For he will avenge the blood of his servants, And will render vengeance to his adversaries, And will make expiation for his land, for his people.

⁴³Nations, chantez les louanges de son peuple! Car l'Eternel venge le sang de ses serviteurs, Il se venge de ses adversaires, Et il fait l'expiation pour son pays, pour son peuple.

⁴³הרנינו גוים עמו כי דם עבדיו יקום ונקם ישיב לצריו וכפר אדמתו עמו׃

⁴⁴And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

⁴⁴Moïse vint et prononça toutes les paroles de ce cantique en présence du peuple; Josué, fils de Nun, était avec lui.

⁴⁴ויבא משה וידבר את כל דברי השירה הזאת באזני העם הוא והושע בן נון׃

⁴⁵And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel;

⁴⁵Lorsque Moïse eut achevé de prononcer toutes ces paroles devant tout Israël,

⁴⁵ויכל משה לדבר את כל הדברים האלה אל כל ישראל׃

⁴⁶And he said unto them, Set your heart unto all the words which I testify unto you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, [even] all the words of this law.

⁴⁶il leur dit: Prenez à coeur toutes les paroles que je vous conjure aujourd'hui de recommander à vos enfants, afin qu'ils observent et mettent en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi.

⁴⁶ויאמר אלהם שימו לבבכם לכל הדברים אשר אנכי מעיד בכם היום אשר תצום את בניכם לשמר לעשות את כל דברי התורה הזאת׃

⁴⁷For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.

⁴⁷Car ce n'est pas une chose sans importance pour vous; c'est votre vie, et c'est par là que vous prolongerez vos jours dans le pays dont vous aurez la possession, après avoir passé le Jourdain.

⁴⁷כי לא דבר רק הוא מכם כי הוא חייכם ובדבר הזה תאריכו ימים על האדמה אשר אתם עברים את הירדן שמה לרשתה׃

⁴⁸And Jehovah spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying,

⁴⁸Ce même jour, l'Eternel parla à Moïse, et dit:

⁴⁸וידבר יהוה אל משה בעצם היום הזה לאמר׃

⁴⁹Get thee up into this mountain of Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession;

⁴⁹Monte sur cette montagne d'Abarim, sur le mont Nebo, au pays de Moab, vis-à-vis de Jéricho; et regarde le pays de Canaan que je donne en propriété aux enfants d'Israël.

⁴⁹עלה אל הר העברים הזה הר נבו אשר בארץ מואב אשר על פני ירחו וראה את ארץ כנען אשר אני נתן לבני ישראל לאחזה׃

⁵⁰and die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:

⁵⁰Tu mourras sur la montagne où tu vas monter, et tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple, comme Aaron, ton frère, est mort sur la montagne de Hor et a été recueilli auprès de son peuple,

⁵⁰ומת בהר אשר אתה עלה שמה והאסף אל עמיך כאשר מת אהרן אחיך בהר ההר ויאסף אל עמיו׃

⁵¹because ye trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel.

⁵¹parce que vous avez péché contre moi au milieu des enfants d'Israël, près des eaux de Meriba, à Kadès, dans le désert de Tsin, et que vous ne m'avez point sanctifié au milieu des enfants d'Israël.

⁵¹על אשר מעלתם בי בתוך בני ישראל במי מריבת קדש מדבר צן על אשר לא קדשתם אותי בתוך בני ישראל׃

⁵²For thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither into the land which I give the children of Israel.

⁵²Tu verras le pays devant toi; mais tu n'entreras point dans le pays que je donne aux enfants d'Israël.

⁵²כי מנגד תראה את הארץ ושמה לא תבוא אל הארץ אשר אני נתן לבני ישראל׃
