¹And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

¹Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

¹ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

²Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop [thy word] toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the land of Israel;

²Fils de l'homme, tourne ta face vers Jérusalem, Et parle contre les lieux saints! Prophétise contre le pays d'Israël!

²בן אדם שים פניך אל ירושלם והטף אל מקדשים והנבא אל אדמת ישראל׃

³and say to the land of Israel, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of its sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.

³Tu diras au pays d'Israël: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, j'en veux à toi, Je tirerai mon épée de son fourreau, Et j'exterminerai du milieu de toi le juste et le méchant.

³ואמרת לאדמת ישראל כה אמר יהוה הנני אליך והוצאתי חרבי מתערה והכרתי ממך צדיק ורשע׃

⁴Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:

⁴Parce que je veux exterminer du milieu de toi le juste et le méchant, Mon épée sortira de son fourreau, Pour frapper toute chair, Du midi au septentrion.

⁴יען אשר הכרתי ממך צדיק ורשע לכן תצא חרבי מתערה אל כל בשר מנגב צפון׃

⁵and all flesh shall know that I, Jehovah, have drawn forth my sword out of its sheath; it shall not return any more.

⁵Et toute chair saura Que moi, l'Eternel, j'ai tiré mon épée de son fourreau. Elle n'y rentrera plus.

⁵וידעו כל בשר כי אני יהוה הוצאתי חרבי מתערה לא תשוב עוד׃

⁶Sigh therefore, thou son of man; with the breaking of thy loins and with bitterness shalt thou sigh before their eyes.

⁶Et toi, fils de l'homme, gémis! Les reins brisés et l'amertume dans l'âme, Gémis sous leurs regards!

⁶ואתה בן אדם האנח בשברון מתנים ובמרירות תאנח לעיניהם׃

⁷And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, Because of the tidings, for it cometh; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord Jehovah.

⁷Et s'ils te disent: Pourquoi gémis-tu? Tu répondras: Parce qu'il arrive une nouvelle... Tous les coeurs s'alarmeront, Toutes les mains deviendront faibles, Tous les esprits seront abattus, Tous les genoux se fondront en eau... Voici, elle arrive, elle est là! Dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

⁷והיה כי יאמרו אליך על מה אתה נאנח ואמרת אל שמועה כי באה ונמס כל לב ורפו כל ידים וכהתה כל רוח וכל ברכים תלכנה מים הנה באה ונהיתה נאם אדני יהוה׃

⁸And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁸La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

⁸ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

⁹Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith Jehovah: Say, A sword, a sword, it is sharpened, and also furbished;

⁹Fils de l'homme, prophétise, et dis: Ainsi parle l'Eternel. Dis: L'épée! l'épée! Elle est aiguisée, elle est polie.

⁹בן אדם הנבא ואמרת כה אמר אדני אמר חרב חרב הוחדה וגם מרוטה׃

¹⁰it is sharpened that it may make a slaughter; it is furbished that it may be as lightning: shall we then make mirth? the rod of my son, it contemneth every tree.

¹⁰C'est pour massacrer qu'elle est aiguisée, C'est pour étinceler qu'elle est polie... Nous réjouirons-nous? Le sceptre de mon fils méprise tout bois...

¹⁰למען טבח טבח הוחדה למען היה לה ברק מרטה או נשיש שבט בני מאסת כל עץ׃

¹¹And it is given to be furbished, that it may be handled: the sword, it is sharpened, yea, it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.

¹¹On l'a donnée à polir, Pour que la main la saisisse; Elle est aiguisée, l'épée, elle est polie, Pour armer la main de celui qui massacre.

¹¹ויתן אתה למרטה לתפש בכף היא הוחדה חרב והיא מרטה לתת אותה ביד הורג׃

¹²Cry and wail, son of man; for it is upon my people, it is upon all the princes of Israel: they are delivered over to the sword with my people; smite therefore upon thy thigh.

¹²Crie et gémis, fils de l'homme! Car elle est tirée contre mon peuple, Contre tous les princes d'Israël; Ils sont livrés à l'épée avec mon peuple. Frappe donc sur ta cuisse!

¹²זעק והילל בן אדם כי היא היתה בעמי היא בכל נשיאי ישראל מגורי אל חרב היו את עמי לכן ספק אל ירך׃

¹³For there is a trial; and what if even the rod that contemneth shall be no more? saith the Lord Jehovah.

¹³Oui, l'épreuve sera faite; Et que sera-ce, si ce sceptre qui méprise tout est anéanti? Dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

¹³כי בחן ומה אם גם שבט מאסת לא יהיה נאם אדני יהוה׃

¹⁴Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thy hands together; and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the deadly wounded: it is the sword of the great one that is deadly wounded, which entereth into their chambers.

¹⁴Et toi, fils de l'homme, prophétise, Et frappe des mains! Et que les coups de l'épée soient doublés, soient triplés! C'est l'épée du carnage, l'épée du grand carnage, L'épée qui doit les poursuivre.

¹⁴ואתה בן אדם הנבא והך כף אל כף ותכפל חרב שלישתה חרב חללים היא חרב חלל הגדול החדרת להם׃

¹⁵I have set the threatening sword against all their gates, that their heart may melt, and their stumblings be multiplied: ah! it is made as lightning, it is pointed for slaughter.

¹⁵Pour jeter l'effroi dans les coeurs, Pour multiplier les victimes, A toutes leurs portes je les menacerai de l'épée. Ah! elle est faite pour étinceler, Elle est aiguisée pour massacrer.

¹⁵למען למוג לב והרבה המכשלים על כל שעריהם נתתי אבחת חרב אח עשויה לברק מעטה לטבח׃

¹⁶Gather thee together, go to the right, set thyself in array, go to the left, whithersoever thy face is set.

¹⁶Rassemble tes forces, tourne-toi à droite! Place-toi, tourne-toi à gauche! Dirige de tous côtés ton tranchant!

¹⁶התאחדי הימיני השימי השמילי אנה פניך מעדות׃

¹⁷I will also smite my hands together, and I will cause my wrath to rest: I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

¹⁷Et moi aussi, je frapperai des mains, Et j'assouvirai ma fureur. C'est moi, l'Eternel, qui parle.

¹⁷וגם אני אכה כפי אל כפי והניחתי חמתי אני יהוה דברתי׃

¹⁸The word of Jehovah came unto me again, saying,

¹⁸La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

¹⁸ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

¹⁹Also, thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come; they twain shall come forth out of one land: and mark out a place, mark it out at the head of the way to the city.

¹⁹Fils de l'homme, trace deux chemins pour servir de passage à l'épée du roi de Babylone; tous les deux doivent sortir du même pays; marque un signe, marque-le à l'entrée du chemin qui conduit à une ville.

¹⁹ואתה בן אדם שים לך שנים דרכים לבוא חרב מלך בבל מארץ אחד יצאו שניהם ויד ברא בראש דרך עיר ברא׃

²⁰Thou shalt appoint a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and to Judah in Jerusalem the fortified.

²⁰Tu traceras l'un des chemins pour que l'épée arrive à Rabbath, ville des enfants d'Ammon, et l'autre pour qu'elle arrive en Juda, à Jérusalem, ville fortifiée.

²⁰דרך תשים לבוא חרב את רבת בני עמון ואת יהודה בירושלם בצורה׃

²¹For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he shook the arrows to and fro, he consulted the teraphim, he looked in the liver.

²¹Car le roi de Babylone se tient au carrefour, à l'entrée des deux chemins, pour tirer des présages; il secoue les flèches, il interroge les théraphim, il examine le foie.

²¹כי עמד מלך בבל אל אם הדרך בראש שני הדרכים לקסם קסם קלקל בחצים שאל בתרפים ראה בכבד׃

²²In his right hand was the divination [for] Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build forts.

²²Le sort, qui est dans sa droite, désigne Jérusalem, où l'on devra dresser des béliers, commander le carnage, et pousser des cris de guerre; on dressera des béliers contre les portes, on élèvera des terrasses, on formera des retranchements.

²²בימינו היה הקסם ירושלם לשום כרים לפתח פה ברצח להרים קול בתרועה לשום כרים על שערים לשפך סללה לבנות דיק׃

²³And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight, who have sworn oaths unto them; but he bringeth iniquity to remembrance, that they may be taken.

²³Ils ne voient là que de vaines divinations, eux qui ont fait des serments. Mais lui, il se souvient de leur iniquité, en sorte qu'ils seront pris.

²³והיה להם כקסום שוא בעיניהם שבעי שבעות להם והוא מזכיר עון להתפש׃

²⁴Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.

²⁴C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Parce que vous rappelez le souvenir de votre iniquité, en mettant à nu vos transgressions, en manifestant vos péchés dans toutes vos actions; parce que vous en rappelez le souvenir, vous serez saisis par sa main.

²⁴לכן כה אמר אדני יהוה יען הזכרכם עונכם בהגלות פשעיכם להראות חטאותיכם בכל עלילותיכם יען הזכרכם בכף תתפשו׃

²⁵And thou, O deadly wounded wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day is come, in the time of the iniquity of the end,

²⁵Et toi, profane, méchant, prince d'Israël, dont le jour arrive au temps où l'iniquité est à son terme!

²⁵ואתה חלל רשע נשיא ישראל אשר בא יומו בעת עון קץ׃

²⁶thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Remove the mitre, and take off the crown; this [shall be] no more the same; exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high.

²⁶Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: La tiare sera ôtée, le diadème sera enlevé. Les choses vont changer. Ce qui est abaissé sera élevé, et ce qui est élevé sera abaissé.

²⁶כה אמר אדני יהוה הסיר המצנפת והרים העטרה זאת לא זאת השפלה הגבה והגבה השפיל׃

²⁷I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it [him].

²⁷J'en ferai une ruine, une ruine, une ruine. Mais cela n'aura lieu qu'à la venue de celui à qui appartient le jugement et à qui je le remettrai.

²⁷עוה עוה עוה אשימנה גם זאת לא היה עד בא אשר לו המשפט ונתתיו׃

²⁸And thou, son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah concerning the children of Ammon, and concerning their reproach; and say thou, A sword, a sword is drawn, for the slaughter it is furbished, to cause it to devour, that it may be as lightning;

²⁸Et toi, fils de l'homme, prophétise, et dis: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel, sur les enfants d'Ammon et sur leur opprobre. Dis: L'épée, l'épée est tirée, elle est polie, pour massacrer, pour dévorer, pour étinceler!

²⁸ואתה בן אדם הנבא ואמרת כה אמר אדני יהוה אל בני עמון ואל חרפתם ואמרת חרב חרב פתוחה לטבח מרוטה להכיל למען ברק׃

²⁹while they see for thee false visions, while they divine lies unto thee, to lay thee upon the necks of the wicked that are deadly wounded, whose day is come in the time of the iniquity of the end.

²⁹Au milieu de tes visions vaines et de tes oracles menteurs, elle te fera tomber parmi les cadavres des méchants, dont le jour arrive au temps où l'iniquité est à son terme.

²⁹בחזות לך שוא בקסם לך כזב לתת אותך אל צוארי חללי רשעים אשר בא יומם בעת עון קץ׃

³⁰Cause it to return into its sheath. In the place where thou wast created, in the land of thy birth, will I judge thee.

³⁰Remets ton épée dans le fourreau. Je te jugerai dans le lieu où tu as été créé, dans le pays de ta naissance.

³⁰השב אל תערה במקום אשר נבראת בארץ מכרותיך אשפט אתך׃

³¹And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee; I will blow upon thee with the fire of my wrath; and I will deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, skilful to destroy.

³¹Je répandrai sur toi ma colère, je soufflerai contre toi avec le feu de ma fureur, et je te livrerai entre les mains d'hommes qui dévorent, qui ne travaillent qu'à détruire.

³¹ושפכתי עליך זעמי באש עברתי אפיח עליך ונתתיך ביד אנשים בערים חרשי משחית׃

³²Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

³²Tu seras consumé par le feu; ton sang coulera au milieu du pays; on ne se souviendra plus de toi. Car moi, l'Eternel, j'ai parlé.

³²לאש תהיה לאכלה דמך יהיה בתוך הארץ לא תזכרי כי אני יהוה דברתי׃
