¹The word of Jehovah came again unto me, saying,

¹La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

¹ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

²Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:

²Fils de l'homme, il y avait deux femmes, Filles d'une même mère.

²בן אדם שתים נשים בנות אם אחת היו׃

³and they played the harlot in Egypt; they played the harlot in their youth; there were their breasts pressed, and there was handled the bosom of their virginity.

³Elles se sont prostituées en Egypte, Elles se sont prostituées dans leur jeunesse; Là leurs mamelles ont été pressées, Là leur sein virginal a été touché.

³ותזנינה במצרים בנעוריהן זנו שמה מעכו שדיהן ושם עשו דדי בתוליהן׃

⁴And the names of them were Oholah the elder, and Oholibah her sister: and they became mine, and they bare sons and daughters. And as for their names, Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem Oholibah.

⁴L'aînée s'appelait Ohola, Et sa soeur Oholiba; Elles étaient à moi, Et elles ont enfanté des fils et des filles. Ohola, c'est Samarie; Oholiba, c'est Jérusalem.

⁴ושמותן אהלה הגדולה ואהליבה אחותה ותהיינה לי ותלדנה בנים ובנות ושמותן שמרון אהלה וירושלם אהליבה׃

⁵And Oholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians [her] neighbors,

⁵Ohola me fut infidèle; Elle s'enflamma pour ses amants, Les Assyriens ses voisins,

⁵ותזן אהלה תחתי ותעגב על מאהביה אל אשור קרובים׃

⁶who were clothed with blue, governors and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses.

⁶Vêtus d'étoffes teintes en bleu, Gouverneurs et chefs, Tous jeunes et charmants, Cavaliers montés sur des chevaux.

⁶לבשי תכלת פחות וסגנים בחורי חמד כלם פרשים רכבי סוסים׃

⁷And she bestowed her whoredoms upon them, the choicest men of Assyria all of them; and on whomsoever she doted, with all their idols she defiled herself.

⁷Elle s'est prostituée à eux, A toute l'élite des enfants de l'Assyrie; Elle s'est souillée avec tous ceux pour lesquels elle s'était enflammée, Elle s'est souillée avec toutes leurs idoles.

⁷ותתן תזנותיה עליהם מבחר בני אשור כלם ובכל אשר עגבה בכל גלוליהם נטמאה׃

⁸Neither hath she left her whoredoms since [the days of] Egypt; for in her youth they lay with her, and they handled the bosom of her virginity; and they poured out their whoredom upon her.

⁸Elle n'a pas renoncé à ses prostitutions d'Egypte: Car ils avaient couché avec elle dans sa jeunesse, Ils avaient touché son sein virginal, Et ils avaient répandu sur elle leurs prostitutions.

⁸ואת תזנותיה ממצרים לא עזבה כי אותה שכבו בנעוריה והמה עשו דדי בתוליה וישפכו תזנותם עליה׃

⁹Wherefore I delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.

⁹C'est pourquoi je l'ai livrée entre les mains de ses amants, Entre les mains des enfants de l'Assyrie, Pour lesquels elle s'était enflammée.

⁹לכן נתתיה ביד מאהביה ביד בני אשור אשר עגבה עליהם׃

¹⁰These uncovered her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters; and her they slew with the sword: and she became a byword among women; for they executed judgments upon her.

¹⁰Ils ont découvert sa nudité, Ils ont pris ses fils et ses filles, Ils l'ont fait périr elle-même avec l'épée; Elle a été en renom parmi les femmes, Après les jugements exercés sur elle.

¹⁰המה גלו ערותה בניה ובנותיה לקחו ואותה בחרב הרגו ותהי שם לנשים ושפוטים עשו בה׃

¹¹And her sister Oholibah saw this, yet was she more corrupt in her doting than she, and in her whoredoms which were more than the whoredoms of her sister.

¹¹Sa soeur Oholiba vit cela, Et fut plus déréglée qu'elle dans sa passion; Ses prostitutions dépassèrent celles de sa soeur.

¹¹ותרא אחותה אהליבה ותשחת עגבתה ממנה ואת תזנותיה מזנוני אחותה׃

¹²She doted upon the Assyrians, governors and rulers, [her] neighbors, clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.

¹²Elle s'enflamma pour les enfants de l'Assyrie, Gouverneurs et chefs, ses voisins, Vêtus magnifiquement, Cavaliers montés sur des chevaux, Tous jeunes et charmants.

¹²אל בני אשור עגבה פחות וסגנים קרבים לבשי מכלול פרשים רכבי סוסים בחורי חמד כלם׃

¹³And I saw that she was defiled; they both took one way.

¹³Je vis qu'elle s'était souillée, Que l'une et l'autre avaient suivi la même voie.

¹³וארא כי נטמאה דרך אחד לשתיהן׃

¹⁴And she increased her whoredoms; for she saw men portrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,

¹⁴Elle alla même plus loin dans ses prostitutions. Elle aperçut contre les murailles des peintures d'hommes, Des images de Chaldéens peints en couleur rouge,

¹⁴ותוסף אל תזנותיה ותרא אנשי מחקה על הקיר צלמי כשדיים חקקים בששר׃

¹⁵girded with girdles upon their loins, with flowing turbans upon their heads, all of them princes to look upon, after the likeness of the Babylonians in Chaldea, the land of their nativity.

¹⁵Avec des ceintures autour des reins, Avec des turbans de couleurs variées flottant sur la tête, Tous ayant l'apparence de chefs, Et figurant des enfants de Babylone, De la Chaldée, leur patrie;

¹⁵חגורי אזור במתניהם סרוחי טבולים בראשיהם מראה שלישים כלם דמות בני בבל כשדים ארץ מולדתם׃

¹⁶And as soon as she saw them she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into Chaldea.

¹⁶Elle s'enflamma pour eux, au premier regard, Et leur envoya des messagers en Chaldée.

¹⁶ותעגב עליהם למראה עיניה ותשלח מלאכים אליהם כשדימה׃

¹⁷And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her soul was alienated from them.

¹⁷Et les enfants de Babylone se rendirent auprès d'elle, Pour partager le lit des amours, Et ils la souillèrent par leurs prostitutions. Elle s'est souillée avec eux, Puis son coeur s'est détaché d'eux.

¹⁷ויבאו אליה בני בבל למשכב דדים ויטמאו אותה בתזנותם ותטמא בם ותקע נפשה מהם׃

¹⁸So she uncovered her whoredoms, and uncovered her nakedness: then my soul was alienated from her, like as my soul was alienated from her sister.

¹⁸Elle a mis à nu son impudicité, Elle a découvert sa nudité; Et mon coeur s'est détaché d'elle, Comme mon coeur s'était détaché de sa soeur.

¹⁸ותגל תזנותיה ותגל את ערותה ותקע נפשי מעליה כאשר נקעה נפשי מעל אחותה׃

¹⁹Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, remembering the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

¹⁹Elle a multiplié ses prostitutions, En pensant aux jours de sa jeunesse, Lorsqu'elle se prostituait au pays d'Egypte.

¹⁹ותרבה את תזנותיה לזכר את ימי נעוריה אשר זנתה בארץ מצרים׃

²⁰And she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

²⁰Elle s'est enflammée pour des impudiques, Dont la chair était comme celle des ânes, Et l'approche comme celle des chevaux.

²⁰ותעגבה על פלגשיהם אשר בשר חמורים בשרם וזרמת סוסים זרמתם׃

²¹Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in the handling of thy bosom by the Egyptians for the breasts of thy youth.

²¹Tu t'es souvenue des crimes de ta jeunesse, Lorsque les Egyptiens pressaient tes mamelles, A cause de ton sein virginal.

²¹ותפקדי את זמת נעוריך בעשות ממצרים דדיך למען שדי נעוריך׃

²²Therefore, O Oholibah, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy soul is alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side:

²²C'est pourquoi, Oholiba, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Voici, j'excite contre toi tes amants, Ceux dont ton coeur s'est détaché, Et je les amène de toutes parts contre toi;

²²לכן אהליבה כה אמר אדני יהוה הנני מעיר את מאהביך עליך את אשר נקעה נפשך מהם והבאתים עליך מסביב׃

²³the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod and Shoa and Koa, [and] all the Assyrians with them; desirable young men, governors and rulers all of them, princes and men of renown, all of them riding upon horses.

²³Les enfants de Babylone et tous les Chaldéens, Nobles, princes et seigneurs, Et tous les enfants de l'Assyrie avec eux, Jeunes et charmants, Tous gouverneurs et chefs, Chefs illustres, Tous montés sur des chevaux.

²³בני בבל וכל כשדים פקוד ושוע וקוע כל בני אשור אותם בחורי חמד פחות וסגנים כלם שלשים וקרואים רכבי סוסים כלם׃

²⁴And they shall come against thee with weapons, chariots, and wagons, and with a company of peoples; they shall set themselves against thee with buckler and shield and helmet round about; and I will commit the judgment unto them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments.

²⁴Ils marchent contre toi avec des armes, des chars et des roues, Et une multitude de peuples; Avec le grand bouclier et le petit bouclier, avec les casques, Ils s'avancent de toutes parts contre toi. Je leur remets le jugement, Et ils te jugeront selon leurs lois.

²⁴ובאו עליך הצן רכב וגלגל ובקהל עמים צנה ומגן וקובע ישימו עליך סביב ונתתי לפניהם משפט ושפטוך במשפטיהם׃

²⁵And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal with thee in fury; they shall take away thy nose and thine ears; and thy residue shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy residue shall be devoured by the fire.

²⁵Je répands ma colère sur toi, Et ils te traiteront avec fureur. Ils te couperont le nez et les oreilles, Et ce qui reste de toi tombera par l'épée; Ils prendront tes fils et tes filles, Et ce qui reste de toi sera dévoré par le feu.

²⁵ונתתי קנאתי בך ועשו אותך בחמה אפך ואזניך יסירו ואחריתך בחרב תפול המה בניך ובנותיך יקחו ואחריתך תאכל באש׃

²⁶They shall also strip thee of thy clothes, and take away thy fair jewels.

²⁶Ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, Et ils enlèveront les ornements dont tu te pares.

²⁶והפשיטוך את בגדיך ולקחו כלי תפארתך׃

²⁷Thus will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee, and thy whoredom [brought] from the land of Egypt; so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.

²⁷Je mettrai fin à tes crimes Et à tes prostitutions du pays d'Egypte; Tu ne porteras plus tes regards vers eux, Tu ne penseras plus à l'Egypte.

²⁷והשבתי זמתך ממך ואת זנותך מארץ מצרים ולא תשאי עיניך אליהם ומצרים לא תזכרי עוד׃

²⁸For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy soul is alienated;

²⁸Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Voici, je te livre entre les mains de ceux que tu hais, Entre les mains de ceux dont ton coeur s'est détaché.

²⁸כי כה אמר אדני יהוה הנני נתנך ביד אשר שנאת ביד אשר נקעה נפשך מהם׃

²⁹and they shall deal with thee in hatred, and shall take away all thy labor, and shall leave thee naked and bare; and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be uncovered, both thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

²⁹Ils te traiteront avec haine; Ils enlèveront toutes tes richesses, Et te laisseront nue, entièrement nue; La honte de tes impudicités sera découverte, De tes crimes et de tes prostitutions.

²⁹ועשו אותך בשנאה ולקחו כל יגיעך ועזבוך עירם ועריה ונגלה ערות זנוניך וזמתך ותזנותיך׃

³⁰These things shall be done unto thee, for that thou hast played the harlot after the nations, and because thou art polluted with their idols.

³⁰Ces choses t'arriveront, Parce que tu t'es prostituée aux nations, Parce que tu t'es souillée par leurs idoles.

³⁰עשה אלה לך בזנותך אחרי גוים על אשר נטמאת בגלוליהם׃

³¹Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thy hand.

³¹Tu as marché dans la voie de ta soeur, Et je mets sa coupe dans ta main.

³¹בדרך אחותך הלכת ונתתי כוסה בידך׃

³²Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Thou shalt drink of thy sister's cup, which is deep and large; thou shalt be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it containeth much.

³²Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Tu boiras la coupe de ta soeur, Tu la boiras large et profonde; Elle te rendra un objet de risée et de moquerie; Elle contient beaucoup.

³²כה אמר אדני יהוה כוס אחותך תשתי העמקה והרחבה תהיה לצחק וללעג מרבה להכיל׃

³³Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

³³Tu seras remplie d'ivresse et de douleur; C'est la coupe de désolation et de destruction, La coupe de ta soeur Samarie.

³³שכרון ויגון תמלאי כוס שמה ושממה כוס אחותך שמרון׃

³⁴Thou shalt even drink it and drain it out, and thou shalt gnaw the sherds thereof, and shalt tear thy breasts; for I have spoken it, saith the Lord Jehovah.

³⁴Tu la boiras, tu la videras, Tu la briseras en morceaux, Et tu te déchireras le sein. Car j'ai parlé, Dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

³⁴ושתית אותה ומצית ואת חרשיה תגרמי ושדיך תנתקי כי אני דברתי נאם אדני יהוה׃

³⁵Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

³⁵C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Parce que tu m'as oublié, Parce que tu m'as rejeté derrière ton dos, Porte donc aussi la peine de tes crimes et de tes prostitutions.

³⁵לכן כה אמר אדני יהוה יען שכחת אותי ותשליכי אותי אחרי גוך וגם את שאי זמתך ואת תזנותיך׃

³⁶Jehovah said moreover unto me: Son of man, wilt thou judge Oholah and Oholibah? then declare unto them their abominations.

³⁶L'Eternel me dit: Fils de l'homme, jugeras-tu Ohola et Oholiba? Déclare-leur leurs abominations!

³⁶ויאמר יהוה אלי בן אדם התשפוט את אהלה ואת אהליבה והגד להן את תועבותיהן׃

³⁷For they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands; and with their idols have they committed adultery; and they have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass through [the fire] unto them to be devoured.

³⁷Elles se sont livrées à l'adultère, et il y a du sang à leurs mains: Elles ont commis adultère avec leurs idoles; Et les enfants qu'elles m'avaient enfantés, Elles les ont fait passer par le feu Pour qu'ils leur servent d'aliment.

³⁷כי נאפו ודם בידיהן ואת גלוליהן נאפו וגם את בניהן אשר ילדו לי העבירו להם לאכלה׃

³⁸Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

³⁸Voici encore ce qu'elles m'ont fait: Elles ont souillé mon sanctuaire dans le même jour, Et elles ont profané mes sabbats.

³⁸עוד זאת עשו לי טמאו את מקדשי ביום ההוא ואת שבתותי חללו׃

³⁹For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of my house.

³⁹Elles ont immolé leurs enfants à leurs idoles, Et elles sont allées le même jour dans mon sanctuaire, Pour le profaner. C'est là ce qu'elles ont fait dans ma maison.

³⁹ובשחטם את בניהם לגלוליהם ויבאו אל מקדשי ביום ההוא לחללו והנה כה עשו בתוך ביתי׃

⁴⁰And furthermore ye have sent for men that come from far, unto whom a messenger was sent, and, lo, they came; for whom thou didst wash thyself, paint thine eyes, and deck thyself with ornaments,

⁴⁰Et même elles ont fait chercher des hommes venant de loin, Elles leur ont envoyé des messagers, et voici, ils sont venus. Pour eux tu t'es lavée, tu as mis du fard à tes yeux, Tu t'es parée de tes ornements;

⁴⁰ואף כי תשלחנה לאנשים באים ממרחק אשר מלאך שלוח אליהם והנה באו לאשר רחצת כחלת עיניך ועדית עדי׃

⁴¹and sit upon a stately bed, with a table prepared before it, whereupon thou didst set mine incense and mine oil.

⁴¹Tu t'es assise sur un lit magnifique, Devant lequel une table était dressée, Et tu as placé sur cette table mon encens et mon huile.

⁴¹וישבת על מטה כבודה ושלחן ערוך לפניה וקטרתי ושמני שמת עליה׃

⁴²And the voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with men of the common sort were brought drunkards from the wilderness; and they put bracelets upon the hands of them [twain], and beautiful crowns upon their heads.

⁴²On entendait les cris d'une multitude joyeuse; Et parmi cette foule d'hommes On a fait venir du désert des Sabéens, Qui ont mis des bracelets aux mains des deux soeurs Et de superbes couronnes sur leurs têtes.

⁴²וקול המון שלו בה ואל אנשים מרב אדם מובאים סובאים ממדבר ויתנו צמידים אל ידיהן ועטרת תפארת על ראשיהן׃

⁴³Then said I of her that was old in adulteries, Now will they play the harlot with her, and she [with them].

⁴³Je dis alors au sujet de celle qui a vieilli dans l'adultère: Continuera-t-elle maintenant ses prostitutions, et viendra-t-on à elle?

⁴³ואמר לבלה נאופים עת יזנה תזנותיה והיא׃

⁴⁴And they went in unto her, as they go in unto a harlot: so went they in unto Oholah and unto Oholibah, the lewd women.

⁴⁴Et l'on est venu vers elle comme l'on va chez une prostituée; C'est ainsi qu'on est allé vers Ohola et Oholiba, Ces femmes criminelles.

⁴⁴ויבוא אליה כבוא אל אשה זונה כן באו אל אהלה ואל אהליבה אשת הזמה׃

⁴⁵And righteous men, they shall judge them with the judgment of adulteresses, and with the judgment of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

⁴⁵Mais des hommes justes les jugeront, Comme on juge les femmes adultères, Comme on juge celles qui répandent le sang; Car elles sont adultères, et il y a du sang à leurs mains.

⁴⁵ואנשים צדיקם המה ישפטו אותהם משפט נאפות ומשפט שפכות דם כי נאפת הנה ודם בידיהן׃

⁴⁶For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will bring up a company against them, and will give them to be tossed to and fro and robbed.

⁴⁶Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Je ferai monter contre elles une multitude, Et je les livrerai à la terreur et au pillage.

⁴⁶כי כה אמר אדני יהוה העלה עליהם קהל ונתן אתהן לזעוה ולבז׃

⁴⁷And the company shall stone them with stones, and despatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.

⁴⁷Cette multitude les lapidera, Et les abattra à coups d'épée; On tuera leurs fils et leurs filles, On brûlera leurs maisons par le feu.

⁴⁷ורגמו עליהן אבן קהל וברא אותהן בחרבותם בניהם ובנותיהם יהרגו ובתיהן באש ישרפו׃

⁴⁸Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.

⁴⁸Je ferai cesser ainsi le crime dans le pays; Toutes les femmes recevront instruction, Et ne commettront pas de crime comme le vôtre.

⁴⁸והשבתי זמה מן הארץ ונוסרו כל הנשים ולא תעשינה כזמתכנה׃

⁴⁹And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols; and ye shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah.

⁴⁹On fera retomber votre crime sur vous, Et vous porterez les péchés de vos idoles. Et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

⁴⁹ונתנו זמתכנה עליכן וחטאי גלוליכן תשאינה וידעתם כי אני אדני יהוה׃
