¹Then he cried in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause ye them that have charge over the city to draw near, every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.

¹Puis il cria d'une voix forte à mes oreilles: Approchez, vous qui devez châtier la ville, chacun son instrument de destruction à la main!

¹ויקרא באזני קול גדול לאמר קרבו פקדות העיר ואיש כלי משחתו בידו׃

²And behold, six men came from the way of the upper gate, which lieth toward the north, every man with his slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man in the midst of them clothed in linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side. And they went in, and stood beside the brazen altar.

²Et voici, six hommes arrivèrent par le chemin de la porte supérieure du côté du septentrion, chacun son instrument de destruction à la main. Il y avait au milieu d'eux un homme vêtu de lin, et portant une écritoire à la ceinture. Ils vinrent se placer près de l'autel d'airain.

²והנה ששה אנשים באים מדרך שער העליון אשר מפנה צפונה ואיש כלי מפצו בידו ואיש אחד בתוכם לבש בדים וקסת הספר במתניו ויבאו ויעמדו אצל מזבח הנחשת׃

³And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon it was, to the threshold of the house: and he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the writer's inkhorn by his side.

³La gloire du Dieu d'Israël s'éleva du chérubin sur lequel elle était, et se dirigea vers le seuil de la maison; et il appela l'homme vêtu de lin, et portant une écritoire à la ceinture.

³וכבוד אלהי ישראל נעלה מעל הכרוב אשר היה עליו אל מפתן הבית ויקרא אל האיש הלבש הבדים אשר קסת הספר במתניו׃

⁴And Jehovah said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done in the midst thereof.

⁴L'Eternel lui dit: Passe au milieu de la ville, au milieu de Jérusalem, et fais une marque sur le front des hommes qui soupirent et qui gémissent à cause de toutes les abominations qui s'y commettent.

⁴ויאמר יהוה אלו עבר בתוך העיר בתוך ירושלם והתוית תו על מצחות האנשים הנאנחים והנאנקים על כל התועבות הנעשות בתוכה׃

⁵And to the others he said in my hearing, Go ye through the city after him, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity;

⁵Et, à mes oreilles, il dit aux autres: Passez après lui dans la ville, et frappez; que votre oeil soit sans pitié, et n'ayez point de miséricorde!

⁵ולאלה אמר באזני עברו בעיר אחריו והכו על תחס עיניכם ואל תחמלו׃

⁶slay utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin, and little children and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark: and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the old men that were before the house.

⁶Tuez, détruisez les vieillards, les jeunes hommes, les vierges, les enfants et les femmes; mais n'approchez pas de quiconque aura sur lui la marque; et commencez par mon sanctuaire! Ils commencèrent par les anciens qui étaient devant la maison.

⁶זקן בחור ובתולה וטף ונשים תהרגו למשחית ועל כל איש אשר עליו התו אל תגשו וממקדשי תחלו ויחלו באנשים הזקנים אשר לפני הבית׃

⁷And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and smote in the city.

⁷Il leur dit: Souillez la maison, et remplissez de morts les parvis!... Sortez!... Ils sortirent, et ils frappèrent dans la ville.

⁷ויאמר אליהם טמאו את הבית ומלאו את החצרות חללים צאו ויצאו והכו בעיר׃

⁸And it came to pass, while they were smiting, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord Jehovah! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy wrath upon Jerusalem?

⁸Comme ils frappaient, et que je restais encore, je tombai sur ma face, et je m'écriai: Ah! Seigneur Eternel, détruiras-tu tout ce qui reste d'Israël, en répandant ta fureur sur Jérusalem?

⁸ויהי כהכותם ונאשאר אני ואפלה על פני ואזעק ואמר אהה אדני יהוה המשחית אתה את כל שארית ישראל בשפכך את חמתך על ירושלם׃

⁹Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of wrestling [of judgment]: for they say, Jehovah hath forsaken the land, and Jehovah seeth not.

⁹Il me répondit: L'iniquité de la maison d'Israël et de Juda est grande, excessive; le pays est rempli de meurtres, la ville est pleine d'injustice, car ils disent: L'Eternel a abandonné le pays, l'Eternel ne voit rien.

⁹ויאמר אלי עון בית ישראל ויהודה גדול במאד מאד ותמלא הארץ דמים והעיר מלאה מטה כי אמרו עזב יהוה את הארץ ואין יהוה ראה׃

¹⁰And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.

¹⁰Moi aussi, je serai sans pitié, et je n'aurai point de miséricorde; je ferai retomber leurs oeuvres sur leur tête.

¹⁰וגם אני לא תחוס עיני ולא אחמל דרכם בראשם נתתי׃

¹¹And behold, the man clothed in linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.

¹¹Et voici, l'homme vêtu de lin, et portant une écritoire à la ceinture, rendit cette réponse: J'ai fait ce que tu m'as ordonné.

¹¹והנה האיש לבש הבדים אשר הקסת במתניו משיב דבר לאמר עשיתי כאשר צויתני׃
