1And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
1Ainsi furent achevés les cieux et la terre, et toute leur armée.
1ויכלו השמים והארץ וכל צבאם׃
2And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
2Dieu acheva au septième jour son oeuvre, qu'il avait faite: et il se reposa au septième jour de toute son oeuvre, qu'il avait faite.
2ויכל אלהים ביום השביעי מלאכתו אשר עשה וישבת ביום השביעי מכל מלאכתו אשר עשה׃
3And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it he rested from all his work which God had created and made.
3Dieu bénit le septième jour, et il le sanctifia, parce qu'en ce jour il se reposa de toute son oeuvre qu'il avait créée en la faisant.
3ויברך אלהים את יום השביעי ויקדש אתו כי בו שבת מכל מלאכתו אשר ברא אלהים לעשות׃
4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven.
4Voici les origines des cieux et de la terre, quand ils furent créés. Lorsque l'Eternel Dieu fit une terre et des cieux,
4אלה תולדות השמים והארץ בהבראם ביום עשות יהוה אלהים ארץ ושמים׃
5And no plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth: and there was not a man to till the ground;
5aucun arbuste des champs n'était encore sur la terre, et aucune herbe des champs ne germait encore: car l'Eternel Dieu n'avait pas fait pleuvoir sur la terre, et il n'y avait point d'homme pour cultiver le sol.
5וכל שיח השדה טרם יהיה בארץ וכל עשב השדה טרם יצמח כי לא המטיר יהוה אלהים על הארץ ואדם אין לעבד את האדמה׃
6but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
6Mais une vapeur s'éleva de la terre, et arrosa toute la surface du sol.
6ואד יעלה מן הארץ והשקה את כל פני האדמה׃
7And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
7L'Eternel Dieu forma l'homme de la poussière de la terre, il souffla dans ses narines un souffle de vie et l'homme devint un être vivant.
7וייצר יהוה אלהים את האדם עפר מן האדמה ויפח באפיו נשמת חיים ויהי האדם לנפש חיה׃
8And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
8Puis l'Eternel Dieu planta un jardin en Eden, du côté de l'orient, et il y mit l'homme qu'il avait formé.
8ויטע יהוה אלהים גן בעדן מקדם וישם שם את האדם אשר יצר׃
9And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
9L'Eternel Dieu fit pousser du sol des arbres de toute espèce, agréables à voir et bons à manger, et l'arbre de la vie au milieu du jardin, et l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal.
9ויצמח יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל עץ נחמד למראה וטוב למאכל ועץ החיים בתוך הגן ועץ הדעת טוב ורע׃
10And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four heads.
10Un fleuve sortait d'Eden pour arroser le jardin, et de là il se divisait en quatre bras.
10ונהר יצא מעדן להשקות את הגן ומשם יפרד והיה לארבעה ראשים׃
11The name of the first is Pishon: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
11Le nom du premier est Pischon; c'est celui qui entoure tout le pays de Havila, où se trouve l'or.
11שם האחד פישון הוא הסבב את כל ארץ החוילה אשר שם הזהב׃
12and the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
12L'or de ce pays est pur; on y trouve aussi le bdellium et la pierre d'onyx.
12וזהב הארץ ההוא טוב שם הבדלח ואבן השהם׃
13And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush.
13Le nom du second fleuve est Guihon; c'est celui qui entoure tout le pays de Cusch.
13ושם הנהר השני גיחון הוא הסובב את כל ארץ כוש׃
14And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth in front of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
14Le nom du troisième est Hiddékel; c'est celui qui coule à l'orient de l'Assyrie. Le quatrième fleuve, c'est l'Euphrate.
14ושם הנהר השלישי חדקל הוא ההלך קדמת אשור והנהר הרביעי הוא פרת׃
15And Jehovah God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
15L'Eternel Dieu prit l'homme, et le plaça dans le jardin d'Eden pour le cultiver et pour le garder.
15ויקח יהוה אלהים את האדם וינחהו בגן עדן לעבדה ולשמרה׃
16And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
16L'Eternel Dieu donna cet ordre à l'homme: Tu pourras manger de tous les arbres du jardin;
16ויצו יהוה אלהים על האדם לאמר מכל עץ הגן אכל תאכל׃
17but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
17mais tu ne mangeras pas de l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, car le jour où tu en mangeras, tu mourras.
17ומעץ הדעת טוב ורע לא תאכל ממנו כי ביום אכלך ממנו מות תמות׃
18And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.
18L'Eternel Dieu dit: Il n'est pas bon que l'homme soit seul; je lui ferai une aide semblable à lui.
18ויאמר יהוה אלהים לא טוב היות האדם לבדו אעשה לו עזר כנגדו׃
19And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
19L'Eternel Dieu forma de la terre tous les animaux des champs et tous les oiseaux du ciel, et il les fit venir vers l'homme, pour voir comment il les appellerait, et afin que tout être vivant portât le nom que lui donnerait l'homme.
19ויצר יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל חית השדה ואת כל עוף השמים ויבא אל האדם לראות מה יקרא לו וכל אשר יקרא לו האדם נפש חיה הוא שמו׃
20And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him.
20Et l'homme donna des noms à tout le bétail, aux oiseaux du ciel et à tous les animaux des champs; mais, pour l'homme, il ne trouva point d'aide semblable à lui.
20ויקרא האדם שמות לכל הבהמה ולעוף השמים ולכל חית השדה ולאדם לא מצא עזר כנגדו׃
21And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof:
21Alors l'Eternel Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l'homme, qui s'endormit; il prit une de ses côtes, et referma la chair à sa place.
21ויפל יהוה אלהים תרדמה על האדם ויישן ויקח אחת מצלעתיו ויסגר בשר תחתנה׃
22and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
22L'Eternel Dieu forma une femme de la côte qu'il avait prise de l'homme, et il l'amena vers l'homme.
22ויבן יהוה אלהים את הצלע אשר לקח מן האדם לאשה ויבאה אל האדם׃
23And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
23Et l'homme dit: Voici cette fois celle qui est os de mes os et chair de ma chair! on l'appellera femme, parce qu'elle a été prise de l'homme.
23ויאמר האדם זאת הפעם עצם מעצמי ובשר מבשרי לזאת יקרא אשה כי מאיש לקחה זאת׃
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
24C'est pourquoi l'homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s'attachera à sa femme, et ils deviendront une seule chair.
24על כן יעזב איש את אביו ואת אמו ודבק באשתו והיו לבשר אחד׃
25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
25L'homme et sa femme étaient tous deux nus, et ils n'en avaient point honte.
25ויהיו שניהם ערומים האדם ואשתו ולא יתבששו׃
