¹Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and declare unto my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.

¹Crie à plein gosier, ne te retiens pas, Elève ta voix comme une trompette, Et annonce à mon peuple ses iniquités, A la maison de Jacob ses péchés!

¹קרא בגרון אל תחשך כשופר הרם קולך והגד לעמי פשעם ולבית יעקב חטאתם׃

²Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near unto God.

²Tous les jours ils me cherchent, Ils veulent connaître mes voies; Comme une nation qui aurait pratiqué la justice Et n'aurait pas abandonné la loi de son Dieu, Ils me demandent des arrêts de justice, Ils désirent l'approche de Dieu. -

²ואותי יום יום ידרשון ודעת דרכי יחפצון כגוי אשר צדקה עשה ומשפט אלהיו לא עזב ישאלוני משפטי צדק קרבת אלהים יחפצון׃

³Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labors.

³Que nous sert de jeûner, si tu ne le vois pas? De mortifier notre âme, si tu n'y as point égard? -Voici, le jour de votre jeûne, vous vous livrez à vos penchants, Et vous traitez durement tous vos mercenaires.

³למה צמנו ולא ראית ענינו נפשנו ולא תדע הן ביום צמכם תמצאו חפץ וכל עצביכם תנגשו׃

⁴Behold, ye fast for strife and contention, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye fast not this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high.

⁴Voici, vous jeûnez pour disputer et vous quereller, Pour frapper méchamment du poing; Vous ne jeûnez pas comme le veut ce jour, Pour que votre voix soit entendue en haut.

⁴הן לריב ומצה תצומו ולהכות באגרף רשע לא תצומו כיום להשמיע במרום קולכם׃

⁵Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Jehovah?

⁵Est-ce là le jeûne auquel je prends plaisir, Un jour où l'homme humilie son âme? Courber la tête comme un jonc, Et se coucher sur le sac et la cendre, Est-ce là ce que tu appelleras un jeûne, Un jour agréable à l'Eternel?

⁵הכזה יהיה צום אבחרהו יום ענות אדם נפשו הלכף כאגמן ראשו ושק ואפר יציע הלזה תקרא צום ויום רצון ליהוה׃

⁶Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

⁶Voici le jeûne auquel je prends plaisir: Détache les chaînes de la méchanceté, Dénoue les liens de la servitude, Renvoie libres les opprimés, Et que l'on rompe toute espèce de joug;

⁶הלוא זה צום אבחרהו פתח חרצבות רשע התר אגדות מוטה ושלח רצוצים חפשים וכל מוטה תנתקו׃

⁷Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

⁷Partage ton pain avec celui qui a faim, Et fais entrer dans ta maison les malheureux sans asile; Si tu vois un homme nu, couvre-le, Et ne te détourne pas de ton semblable.

⁷הלוא פרס לרעב לחמך ועניים מרודים תביא בית כי תראה ערם וכסיתו ומבשרך לא תתעלם׃

⁸Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy healing shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of Jehovah shall by thy rearward.

⁸Alors ta lumière poindra comme l'aurore, Et ta guérison germera promptement; Ta justice marchera devant toi, Et la gloire de l'Eternel t'accompagnera.

⁸אז יבקע כשחר אורך וארכתך מהרה תצמח והלך לפניך צדקך כבוד יהוה יאספך׃

⁹Then shalt thou call, and Jehovah will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;

⁹Alors tu appelleras, et l'Eternel répondra; Tu crieras, et il dira: Me voici! Si tu éloignes du milieu de toi le joug, Les gestes menaçants et les discours injurieux,

⁹אז תקרא ויהוה יענה תשוע ויאמר הנני אם תסיר מתוכך מוטה שלח אצבע ודבר און׃

¹⁰and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then shall thy light rise in darkness, and thine obscurity be as the noonday;

¹⁰Si tu donnes ta propre subsistance à celui qui a faim, Si tu rassasies l'âme indigente, Ta lumière se lèvera sur l'obscurité, Et tes ténèbres seront comme le midi.

¹⁰ותפק לרעב נפשך ונפש נענה תשביע וזרח בחשך אורך ואפלתך כצהרים׃

¹¹and Jehovah will guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in dry places, and make strong thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

¹¹L'Eternel sera toujours ton guide, Il rassasiera ton âme dans les lieux arides, Et il redonnera de la vigueur à tes membres; Tu seras comme un jardin arrosé, Comme une source dont les eaux ne tarissent pas.

¹¹ונחך יהוה תמיד והשביע בצחצחות נפשך ועצמתיך יחליץ והיית כגן רוה וכמוצא מים אשר לא יכזבו מימיו׃

¹²And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

¹²Les tiens rebâtiront sur d'anciennes ruines, Tu relèveras des fondements antiques; On t'appellera réparateur des brèches, Celui qui restaure les chemins, qui rend le pays habitable.

¹²ובנו ממך חרבות עולם מוסדי דור ודור תקומם וקרא לך גדר פרץ משבב נתיבות לשבת׃

¹³If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, [and] the holy of Jehovah honorable; and shalt honor it, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:

¹³Si tu retiens ton pied pendant le sabbat, Pour ne pas faire ta volonté en mon saint jour, Si tu fais du sabbat tes délices, Pour sanctifier l'Eternel en le glorifiant, Et si tu l'honores en ne suivant point tes voies, En ne te livrant pas à tes penchants et à de vains discours,

¹³אם תשיב משבת רגלך עשות חפציך ביום קדשי וקראת לשבת ענג לקדוש יהוה מכבד וכבדתו מעשות דרכיך ממצוא חפצך ודבר דבר׃

¹⁴then shalt thou delight thyself in Jehovah; and I will make thee to ride upon the high places of the earth; and I will feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

¹⁴Alors tu mettras ton plaisir en l'Eternel, Et je te ferai monter sur les hauteurs du pays, Je te ferai jouir de l'héritage de Jacob, ton père; Car la bouche de l'Eternel a parlé.

¹⁴אז תתענג על יהוה והרכבתיך על במותי ארץ והאכלתיך נחלת יעקב אביך כי פי יהוה דבר׃
