¹The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

¹Paroles de Jérémie, fils de Hilkija, l'un des sacrificateurs d'Anathoth, dans le pays de Benjamin.

¹דברי ירמיהו בן חלקיהו מן הכהנים אשר בענתות בארץ בנימן׃

²to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

²La parole de l'Eternel lui fut adressée au temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne,

²אשר היה דבר יהוה אליו בימי יאשיהו בן אמון מלך יהודה בשלש עשרה שנה למלכו׃

³It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

³et au temps de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à l'époque où Jérusalem fut emmenée en captivité, au cinquième mois.

³ויהי בימי יהויקים בן יאשיהו מלך יהודה עד תם עשתי עשרה שנה לצדקיהו בן יאשיהו מלך יהודה עד גלות ירושלם בחדש החמישי׃

⁴Now the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁴ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

⁵Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.

⁵Avant que je t'eusse formé dans le ventre de ta mère, je te connaissais, et avant que tu fusses sorti de son sein, je t'avais consacré, je t'avais établi prophète des nations.

⁵בטרם אצורך בבטן ידעתיך ובטרם תצא מרחם הקדשתיך נביא לגוים נתתיך׃

⁶Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child.

⁶Je répondis: Ah! Seigneur Eternel! voici, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant.

⁶ואמר אהה אדני יהוה הנה לא ידעתי דבר כי נער אנכי׃

⁷But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever I shall send thee thou shalt go, and whatsoever I shall command thee thou shalt speak.

⁷Et l'Eternel me dit: Ne dis pas: Je suis un enfant. Car tu iras vers tous ceux auprès de qui je t'enverrai, et tu diras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai.

⁷ויאמר יהוה אלי אל תאמר נער אנכי כי על כל אשר אשלחך תלך ואת כל אשר אצוך תדבר׃

⁸Be not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah.

⁸Ne les crains point, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Eternel.

⁸אל תירא מפניהם כי אתך אני להצלך נאם יהוה׃

⁹Then Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth:

⁹Puis l'Eternel étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche; et l'Eternel me dit: Voici, je mets mes paroles dans ta bouche.

⁹וישלח יהוה את ידו ויגע על פי ויאמר יהוה אלי הנה נתתי דברי בפיך׃

¹⁰see, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

¹⁰Regarde, je t'établis aujourd'hui sur les nations et sur les royaumes, pour que tu arraches et que tu abattes, pour que tu ruines et que tu détruises, pour que tu bâtisses et que tu plantes.

¹⁰ראה הפקדתיך היום הזה על הגוים ועל הממלכות לנתוש ולנתוץ ולהאביד ולהרוס לבנות ולנטוע׃

¹¹Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree.

¹¹La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots: Que vois-tu, Jérémie? Je répondis: Je vois une branche d'amandier.

¹¹ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר מה אתה ראה ירמיהו ואמר מקל שקד אני ראה׃

¹²Then said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.

¹²Et l'Eternel me dit: Tu as bien vu; car je veille sur ma parole, pour l'exécuter.

¹²ויאמר יהוה אלי היטבת לראות כי שקד אני על דברי לעשתו׃

¹³And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling caldron; and the face thereof is from the north.

¹³La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée une seconde fois, en ces mots: Que vois-tu? Je répondis: Je vois une chaudière bouillante, du côté du septentrion.

¹³ויהי דבר יהוה אלי שנית לאמר מה אתה ראה ואמר סיר נפוח אני ראה ופניו מפני צפונה׃

¹⁴Then Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

¹⁴Et l'Eternel me dit: C'est du septentrion que la calamité se répandra sur tous les habitants du pays.

¹⁴ויאמר יהוה אלי מצפון תפתח הרעה על כל ישבי הארץ׃

¹⁵For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

¹⁵Car voici, je vais appeler tous les peuples des royaumes du septentrion, dit l'Eternel; ils viendront, et placeront chacun leur siège à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem, contre ses murailles tout alentour, et contre toutes les villes de Juda.

¹⁵כי הנני קרא לכל משפחות ממלכות צפונה נאם יהוה ובאו ונתנו איש כסאו פתח שערי ירושלם ועל כל חומתיה סביב ועל כל ערי יהודה׃

¹⁶And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

¹⁶Je prononcerai mes jugements contre eux, à cause de toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et ont offert de l'encens à d'autres dieux, et parce qu'ils se sont prosternés devant l'ouvrage de leurs mains.

¹⁶ודברתי משפטי אותם על כל רעתם אשר עזבוני ויקטרו לאלהים אחרים וישתחוו למעשי ידיהם׃

¹⁷Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I dismay thee before them.

¹⁷Et toi, ceins tes reins, lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que je t'ordonnerai. Ne tremble pas en leur présence, de peur que je ne te fasse trembler devant eux.

¹⁷ואתה תאזר מתניך וקמת ודברת אליהם את כל אשר אנכי אצוך אל תחת מפניהם פן אחתך לפניהם׃

¹⁸For, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

¹⁸Voici, je t'établis en ce jour sur tout le pays comme une ville forte, une colonne de fer et un mur d'airain, contre les rois de Juda, contre ses chefs, contre ses sacrificateurs, et contre le peuple du pays.

¹⁸ואני הנה נתתיך היום לעיר מבצר ולעמוד ברזל ולחמות נחשת על כל הארץ למלכי יהודה לשריה לכהניה ולעם הארץ׃

¹⁹And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee.

¹⁹Ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne te vaincront pas; car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Eternel.

¹⁹ונלחמו אליך ולא יוכלו לך כי אתך אני נאם יהוה להצילך׃
