¹Thus saith Jehovah unto me, Go, and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

¹Ainsi m'a parlé l'Eternel: Va, achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la sur tes reins; mais ne la trempe pas dans l'eau.

¹כה אמר יהוה אלי הלוך וקנית לך אזור פשתים ושמתו על מתניך ובמים לא תבאהו׃

²So I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins.

²J'achetai la ceinture, selon la parole de l'Eternel, et je la mis sur mes reins.

²ואקנה את האזור כדבר יהוה ואשם על מתני׃

³And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying,

³La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée une seconde fois, en ces mots:

³ויהי דבר יהוה אלי שנית לאמר׃

⁴Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.

⁴Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, et qui est sur tes reins; lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et là, cache-la dans la fente d'un rocher.

⁴קח את האזור אשר קנית אשר על מתניך וקום לך פרתה וטמנהו שם בנקיק הסלע׃

⁵So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me.

⁵J'allai, et je la cachai près de l'Euphrate, comme l'Eternel me l'avait ordonné.

⁵ואלך ואטמנהו בפרת כאשר צוה יהוה אותי׃

⁶And it came to pass after many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

⁶Plusieurs jours après, l'Eternel me dit: Lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et là, prends la ceinture que je t'avais ordonné d'y cacher.

⁶ויהי מקץ ימים רבים ויאמר יהוה אלי קום לך פרתה וקח משם את האזור אשר צויתיך לטמנו שם׃

⁷Then I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁷J'allai vers l'Euphrate, je fouillai, et je pris la ceinture dans le lieu où je l'avais cachée; mais voici, la ceinture était gâtée, elle n'était plus bonne à rien.

⁷ואלך פרתה ואחפר ואקח את האזור מן המקום אשר טמנתיו שמה והנה נשחת האזור לא יצלח לכל׃

⁸Then the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁸La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

⁸ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

⁹Thus saith Jehovah, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

⁹Ainsi parle l'Eternel: C'est ainsi que je détruirai l'orgueil de Juda Et l'orgueil immense de Jérusalem.

⁹כה אמר יהוה ככה אשחית את גאון יהודה ואת גאון ירושלם הרב׃

¹⁰This evil people, that refuse to hear my words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing.

¹⁰Ce méchant peuple, qui refuse d'écouter mes paroles, Qui suit les penchants de son coeur, Et qui va après d'autres dieux, Pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux, Qu'il devienne comme cette ceinture, Qui n'est plus bonne à rien!

¹⁰העם הזה הרע המאנים לשמוע את דברי ההלכים בשררות לבם וילכו אחרי אלהים אחרים לעבדם ולהשתחות להם ויהי כאזור הזה אשר לא יצלח לכל׃

¹¹For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹¹Car comme on attache la ceinture aux reins d'un homme, Ainsi je m'étais attaché toute la maison d'Israël Et toute la maison de Juda, dit l'Eternel, Afin qu'elles fussent mon peuple, Mon nom, ma louange, et ma gloire. Mais ils ne m'ont point écouté.

¹¹כי כאשר ידבק האזור אל מתני איש כן הדבקתי אלי את כל בית ישראל ואת כל בית יהודה נאם יהוה להיות לי לעם ולשם ולתהלה ולתפארת ולא שמעו׃

¹²Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

¹²Tu leur diras cette parole: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Tous les vases seront remplis de vin. Et ils te diront: Ne savons-nous pas Que tous les vases seront remplis de vin?

¹²ואמרת אליהם את הדבר הזה כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל כל נבל ימלא יין ואמרו אליך הידע לא נדע כי כל נבל ימלא יין׃

¹³Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹³Alors dis-leur: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je remplirai tous les habitants de ce pays, Les rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David, Les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, Je les remplirai d'ivresse.

¹³ואמרת אליהם כה אמר יהוה הנני ממלא את כל ישבי הארץ הזאת ואת המלכים הישבים לדוד על כסאו ואת הכהנים ואת הנביאים ואת כל ישבי ירושלם שכרון׃

¹⁴And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

¹⁴Je les briserai les uns contre les autres, Les pères et les fils ensemble, dit l'Eternel; Je n'épargnerai pas, je n'aurai point de pitié, point de miséricorde, Rien ne m'empêchera de les détruire.

¹⁴ונפצתים איש אל אחיו והאבות והבנים יחדו נאם יהוה לא אחמול ולא אחוס ולא ארחם מהשחיתם׃

¹⁵Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud; for Jehovah hath spoken.

¹⁵Ecoutez et prêtez l'oreille! Ne soyez point orgueilleux! Car l'Eternel parle.

¹⁵שמעו והאזינו אל תגבהו כי יהוה דבר׃

¹⁶Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹⁶Rendez gloire à l'Eternel, votre Dieu, Avant qu'il fasse venir les ténèbres, Avant que vos pieds heurtent contre les montagnes de la nuit; Vous attendrez la lumière, Et il la changera en ombre de la mort, Il la réduira en obscurité profonde.

¹⁶תנו ליהוה אלהיכם כבוד בטרם יחשך ובטרם יתנגפו רגליכם על הרי נשף וקויתם לאור ושמה לצלמות ישית לערפל׃

¹⁷But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is taken captive.

¹⁷Si vous n'écoutez pas, Je pleurerai en secret, à cause de votre orgueil; Mes yeux fondront en larmes, Parce que le troupeau de l'Eternel sera emmené captif.

¹⁷ואם לא תשמעוה במסתרים תבכה נפשי מפני גוה ודמע תדמע ותרד עיני דמעה כי נשבה עדר יהוה׃

¹⁸Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headtires are come down, even the crown of your glory.

¹⁸Dis au roi et à la reine: Asseyez-vous à terre! Car il est tombé de vos têtes, Le diadème qui vous servait d'ornement.

¹⁸אמר למלך ולגבירה השפילו שבו כי ירד מראשותיכם עטרת תפארתכם׃

¹⁹The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them: Judah is carried away captive, all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

¹⁹Les villes du midi sont fermées, Il n'y a personne pour ouvrir; Tout Juda est emmené captif, Il est emmené tout entier captif.

¹⁹ערי הנגב סגרו ואין פתח הגלת יהודה כלה הגלת שלומים׃

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

²⁰Lève tes yeux et regarde Ceux qui viennent du septentrion. Où est le troupeau qui t'avait été donné, Le troupeau qui faisait ta gloire?

²⁰שאי עיניכם וראי הבאים מצפון איה העדר נתן לך צאן תפארתך׃

²¹What wilt thou say, when he shall set over thee as head those whom thou hast thyself taught to be friends to thee? shall not sorrows take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail?

²¹Que diras-tu de ce qu'il te châtie? C'est toi-même qui leur as appris à te traiter en maîtres. Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas, Comme elles saisissent une femme en travail?

²¹מה תאמרי כי יפקד עליך ואת למדת אתם עליך אלפים לראש הלוא חבלים יאחזוך כמו אשת לדה׃

²²And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore are these things come upon me? for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.

²²Si tu dis en ton coeur: Pourquoi cela m'arrive-t-il? C'est à cause de la multitude de tes iniquités Que les pans de tes habits sont relevés, Et que tes talons sont violemment mis à nu.

²²וכי תאמרי בלבבך מדוע קראני אלה ברב עונך נגלו שוליך נחמסו עקביך׃

²³Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

²³Un Ethiopien peut-il changer sa peau, Et un léopard ses taches? De même, pourriez-vous faire le bien, Vous qui êtes accoutumés à faire le mal?

²³היהפך כושי עורו ונמר חברברתיו גם אתם תוכלו להיטיב למדי הרע׃

²⁴Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away, by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁴Je les disperserai, comme la paille emportée Par le vent du désert.

²⁴ואפיצם כקש עובר לרוח מדבר׃

²⁵This is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

²⁵Voilà ton sort, la part que je te mesure, Dit l'Eternel, Parce que tu m'as oublié, Et que tu as mis ta confiance dans le mensonge.

²⁵זה גורלך מנת מדיך מאתי נאם יהוה אשר שכחת אותי ותבטחי בשקר׃

²⁶Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear.

²⁶Je relèverai tes pans jusque sur ton visage, Afin qu'on voie ta honte.

²⁶וגם אני חשפתי שוליך על פניך ונראה קלונך׃

²⁷I have seen thine abominations, even thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, on the hills in the field. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean; how long shall it yet be?

²⁷J'ai vu tes adultères et tes hennissements, Tes criminelles prostitutions sur les collines et dans les champs, J'ai vu tes abominations. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Jusques à quand tarderas-tu à te purifier?

²⁷נאפיך ומצהלותיך זמת זנותך על גבעות בשדה ראיתי שקוציך אוי לך ירושלם לא תטהרי אחרי מתי עד׃
