¹If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith Jehovah, if thou wilt return unto me, and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight; then shalt thou not be removed;

¹Israël, si tu reviens, si tu reviens à moi, dit l'Eternel, Si tu ôtes tes abominations de devant moi, Tu ne seras plus errant.

¹אם תשוב ישראל נאם יהוה אלי תשוב ואם תסיר שקוציך מפני ולא תנוד׃

²and thou shalt swear, As Jehovah liveth, in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

²Si tu jures: L'Eternel est vivant! Avec vérité, avec droiture et avec justice, Alors les nations seront bénies en lui, Et se glorifieront en lui.

²ונשבעת חי יהוה באמת במשפט ובצדקה והתברכו בו גוים ובו יתהללו׃

³For thus saith Jehovah to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

³Car ainsi parle l'Eternel aux hommes de Juda et de Jérusalem: Défrichez-vous un champ nouveau, Et ne semez pas parmi les épines.

³כי כה אמר יהוה לאיש יהודה ולירושלם נירו לכם ניר ואל תזרעו אל קוצים׃

⁴Circumcise yourselves to Jehovah, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

⁴Circoncisez-vous pour l'Eternel, circoncisez vos coeurs, Hommes de Juda et habitants de Jérusalem, De peur que ma colère n'éclate comme un feu, Et ne s'enflamme, sans qu'on puisse l'éteindre, A cause de la méchanceté de vos actions.

⁴המלו ליהוה והסרו ערלות לבבכם איש יהודה וישבי ירושלם פן תצא כאש חמתי ובערה ואין מכבה מפני רע מעלליכם׃

⁵Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry aloud and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.

⁵Annoncez en Juda, publiez à Jérusalem, Et dites: Sonnez de la trompette dans le pays! Criez à pleine voix, et dites: Rassemblez-vous, et allons dans les villes fortes!

⁵הגידו ביהודה ובירושלם השמיעו ואמרו ותקעו שופר בארץ קראו מלאו ואמרו האספו ונבואה אל ערי המבצר׃

⁶Set up a standard toward Zion: flee for safety, stay not; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

⁶Elevez une bannière vers Sion, Fuyez, ne vous arrêtez pas! Car je fais venir du septentrion le malheur Et un grand désastre.

⁶שאו נס ציונה העיזו אל תעמדו כי רעה אנכי מביא מצפון ושבר גדול׃

⁷A lion is gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations; he is on his way, he is gone forth from his place, to make thy land desolate, that thy cities be laid waste, without inhabitant.

⁷Le lion s'élance de son taillis, Le destructeur des nations est en marche, il a quitté son lieu, Pour ravager ton pays; Tes villes seront ruinées, il n'y aura plus d'habitants.

⁷עלה אריה מסבכו ומשחית גוים נסע יצא ממקמו לשום ארצך לשמה עריך תצינה מאין יושב׃

⁸For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Jehovah is not turned back from us.

⁸C'est pourquoi couvrez-vous de sacs, pleurez et gémissez; Car la colère ardente de l'Eternel ne se détourne pas de nous.

⁸על זאת חגרו שקים ספדו והילילו כי לא שב חרון אף יהוה ממנו׃

⁹And it shall come to pass at that day, saith Jehovah, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

⁹En ce jour-là, dit l'Eternel, Le roi et les chefs perdront courage, Les sacrificateurs seront étonnés, Et les prophètes stupéfaits.

⁹והיה ביום ההוא נאם יהוה יאבד לב המלך ולב השרים ונשמו הכהנים והנביאים יתמהו׃

¹⁰Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the life.

¹⁰Je dis: Ah! Seigneur Eternel! Tu as donc trompé ce peuple et Jérusalem, en disant: Vous aurez la paix! Et cependant l'épée menace leur vie.

¹⁰ואמר אהה אדני יהוה אכן השא השאת לעם הזה ולירושלם לאמר שלום יהיה לכם ונגעה חרב עד הנפש׃

¹¹At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse;

¹¹En ce temps-là, il sera dit à ce peuple et à Jérusalem: Un vent brûlant souffle des lieux élevés du désert Sur le chemin de la fille de mon peuple, Non pour vanner ni pour nettoyer le grain.

¹¹בעת ההיא יאמר לעם הזה ולירושלם רוח צח שפיים במדבר דרך בת עמי לוא לזרות ולוא להבר׃

¹²a full wind from these shall come for me: now will I also utter judgments against them.

¹²C'est un vent impétueux qui vient de là jusqu'à moi. Maintenant, je prononcerai leur sentence.

¹²רוח מלא מאלה יבוא לי עתה גם אני אדבר משפטים אותם׃

¹³Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots [shall be] as the whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are ruined.

¹³Voici, le destructeur s'avance comme les nuées; Ses chars sont comme un tourbillon, Ses chevaux sont plus légers que les aigles. -Malheur à nous, car nous sommes détruits! -

¹³הנה כעננים יעלה וכסופה מרכבותיו קלו מנשרים סוסיו אוי לנו כי שדדנו׃

¹⁴O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thine evil thoughts lodge within thee?

¹⁴Purifie ton coeur du mal, Jérusalem, Afin que tu sois sauvée! Jusques à quand garderas-tu dans ton coeur tes pensées iniques?

¹⁴כבסי מרעה לבך ירושלם למען תושעי עד מתי תלין בקרבך מחשבות אונך׃

¹⁵For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth evil from the hills of Ephraim:

¹⁵Car une voix qui part de Dan annonce la calamité, Elle la publie depuis la montagne d'Ephraïm.

¹⁵כי קול מגיד מדן ומשמיע און מהר אפרים׃

¹⁶make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, [that] watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

¹⁶Dites-le aux nations, faites-le connaître à Jérusalem: Des assiégeants viennent d'une terre lointaine; Ils poussent des cris contre les villes de Juda.

¹⁶הזכירו לגוים הנה השמיעו על ירושלם נצרים באים מארץ המרחק ויתנו על ערי יהודה קולם׃

¹⁷As keepers of a field are they against her round about, because she hath been rebellious against me, saith Jehovah.

¹⁷Comme ceux qui gardent un champ, ils entourent Jérusalem, Car elle s'est révoltée contre moi, dit l'Eternel.

¹⁷כשמרי שדי היו עליה מסביב כי אתי מרתה נאם יהוה׃

¹⁸Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reacheth unto thy heart.

¹⁸C'est là le produit de tes voies et de tes actions, C'est là le produit de ta méchanceté; Certes cela est amer, cela pénètre jusqu'à ton coeur.

¹⁸דרכך ומעלליך עשו אלה לך זאת רעתך כי מר כי נגע עד לבך׃

¹⁹My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart; my heart is disquieted in me; I cannot hold my peace; because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

¹⁹Mes entrailles! mes entrailles: je souffre au dedans de mon coeur, Le coeur me bat, je ne puis me taire; Car tu entends, mon âme, le son de la trompette, Le cri de guerre.

¹⁹מעי מעי אחולה קירות לבי המה לי לבי לא אחריש כי קול שופר שמעתי נפשי תרועת מלחמה׃

²⁰Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is laid waste: suddenly are my tents destroyed, [and] my curtains in a moment.

²⁰On annonce ruine sur ruine, Car tout le pays est ravagé; Mes tentes sont ravagées tout à coup, Mes pavillons en un instant.

²⁰שבר על שבר נקרא כי שדדה כל הארץ פתאם שדדו אהלי רגע יריעתי׃

²¹How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

²¹Jusques à quand verrai-je la bannière, Et entendrai-je le son de la trompette? -

²¹עד מתי אראה נס אשמעה קול שופר׃

²²For my people are foolish, they know me not; they are sottish children, and they have no understanding; they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

²²Certainement mon peuple est fou, il ne me connaît pas; Ce sont des enfants insensés, dépourvus d'intelligence; Ils sont habiles pour faire le mal, Mais ils ne savent pas faire le bien. -

²²כי אויל עמי אותי לא ידעו בנים סכלים המה ולא נבונים המה חכמים המה להרע ולהיטיב לא ידעו׃

²³I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was waste and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

²³Je regarde la terre, et voici, elle est informe et vide; Les cieux, et leur lumière a disparu.

²³ראיתי את הארץ והנה תהו ובהו ואל השמים ואין אורם׃

²⁴I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved to and fro.

²⁴Je regarde les montagnes, et voici, elles sont ébranlées; Et toutes les collines chancellent.

²⁴ראיתי ההרים והנה רעשים וכל הגבעות התקלקלו׃

²⁵I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.

²⁵Je regarde, et voici, il n'y a point d'homme; Et tous les oiseaux des cieux ont pris la fuite.

²⁵ראיתי והנה אין האדם וכל עוף השמים נדדו׃

²⁶I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful field was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of Jehovah, [and] before his fierce anger.

²⁶Je regarde, et voici, le Carmel est un désert; Et toutes ses villes sont détruites, devant l'Eternel, Devant son ardente colère.

²⁶ראיתי והנה הכרמל המדבר וכל עריו נתצו מפני יהוה מפני חרון אפו׃

²⁷For thus saith Jehovah, The whole land shall be a desolation; yet will I not make a full end.

²⁷Car ainsi parle l'Eternel: Tout le pays sera dévasté; Mais je ne ferai pas une entière destruction.

²⁷כי כה אמר יהוה שממה תהיה כל הארץ וכלה לא אעשה׃

²⁸For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and I have not repented, neither will I turn back from it.

²⁸A cause de cela, le pays est en deuil, Et les cieux en haut sont obscurcis; Car je l'ai dit, je l'ai résolu, Et je ne m'en repens pas, je ne me rétracterai pas.

²⁸על זאת תאבל הארץ וקדרו השמים ממעל על כי דברתי זמתי ולא נחמתי ולא אשוב ממנה׃

²⁹Every city fleeth for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they go into the thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city is forsaken, and not a man dwelleth therein.

²⁹Au bruit des cavaliers et des archers, toutes les villes sont en fuite; On entre dans les bois, on monte sur les rochers; Toutes les villes sont abandonnées, il n'y a plus d'habitants.

²⁹מקול פרש ורמה קשת ברחת כל העיר באו בעבים ובכפים עלו כל העיר עזובה ואין יושב בהן איש׃

³⁰And thou, when thou art made desolate, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with scarlet, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou enlargest thine eyes with paint, in vain dost thou make thyself fair; [thy] lovers despise thee, they seek thy life.

³⁰Et toi, dévastée, que vas-tu faire? Tu te revêtiras de cramoisi, tu te pareras d'ornements d'or, Tu mettras du fard à tes yeux; Mais c'est en vain que tu t'embelliras; Tes amants te méprisent, Ils en veulent à ta vie.

³⁰ואתי שדוד מה תעשי כי תלבשי שני כי תעדי עדי זהב כי תקרעי בפוך עיניך לשוא תתיפי מאסו בך עגבים נפשך יבקשו׃

³¹For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that gaspeth for breath, that spreadeth her hands, [saying], Woe is me now! for my soul fainteth before the murderers.

³¹Car j'entends des cris comme ceux d'une femme en travail, Des cris d'angoisse comme dans un premier enfantement. C'est la voix de la fille de Sion; elle soupire, elle étend les mains: Malheureuse que je suis! je succombe sous les meurtriers!

³¹כי קול כחולה שמעתי צרה כמבכירה קול בת ציון תתיפח תפרש כפיה אוי נא לי כי עיפה נפשי להרגים׃
