1I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

1אני הגבר ראה עני בשבט עברתו׃
2He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.
2Il m'a conduit, mené dans les ténèbres, Et non dans la lumière.
2אותי נהג וילך חשך ולא אור׃
3Surely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.
3Contre moi il tourne et retourne sa main Tout le jour.
3אך בי ישב יהפך ידו כל היום׃
4My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.
4Il a fait dépérir ma chair et ma peau, Il a brisé mes os.
4בלה בשרי ועורי שבר עצמותי׃
5He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.
5Il a bâti autour de moi, Il m'a environné de poison et de douleur.
5בנה עלי ויקף ראש ותלאה׃
6He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.
6Il me fait habiter dans les ténèbres, Comme ceux qui sont morts dès longtemps.
6במחשכים הושיבני כמתי עולם׃
7He hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.
7Il m'a entouré d'un mur, pour que je ne sorte pas; Il m'a donné de pesantes chaînes.
7גדר בעדי ולא אצא הכביד נחשתי׃
8Yea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.
8J'ai beau crier et implorer du secours, Il ne laisse pas accès à ma prière.
8גם כי אזעק ואשוע שתם תפלתי׃
9He hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.
9Il a fermé mon chemin avec des pierres de taille, Il a détruit mes sentiers.
9גדר דרכי בגזית נתיבתי עוה׃
10He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.
10Il a été pour moi un ours en embuscade, Un lion dans un lieu caché.
10דב ארב הוא לי אריה במסתרים׃
11He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.
11Il a détourné mes voies, il m'a déchiré, Il m'a jeté dans la désolation.
11דרכי סורר ויפשחני שמני שמם׃
12He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
12Il a tendu son arc, et il m'a placé Comme un but pour sa flèche.
12דרך קשתו ויציבני כמטרא לחץ׃
13He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.
13Il a fait entrer dans mes reins Les traits de son carquois.
13הביא בכליותי בני אשפתו׃
14I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.
14Je suis pour tout mon peuple un objet de raillerie, Chaque jour l'objet de leurs chansons.
14הייתי שחק לכל עמי נגינתם כל היום׃
15He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.
15Il m'a rassasié d'amertume, Il m'a enivré d'absinthe.
15השביעני במרורים הרוני לענה׃
16He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.
16Il a brisé mes dents avec des cailloux, Il m'a couvert de cendre.
16ויגרס בחצץ שני הכפישני באפר׃
17And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.
17Tu m'as enlevé la paix; Je ne connais plus le bonheur.
17ותזנח משלום נפשי נשיתי טובה׃
18And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.
18Et j'ai dit: Ma force est perdue, Je n'ai plus d'espérance en l'Eternel!
18ואמר אבד נצחי ותוחלתי מיהוה׃
19Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
19Quand je pense à ma détresse et à ma misère, A l'absinthe et au poison;
19זכר עניי ומרודי לענה וראש׃
20My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.
20Quand mon âme s'en souvient, Elle est abattue au dedans de moi.
20זכור תזכור ותשיח עלי נפשי׃
21This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.
21Voici ce que je veux repasser en mon coeur, Ce qui me donnera de l'espérance.
21זאת אשיב אל לבי על כן אוחיל׃
22[It is of] Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
22Les bontés de l'Eternel ne sont pas épuisées, Ses compassions ne sont pas à leur terme;
22חסדי יהוה כי לא תמנו כי לא כלו רחמיו׃
23They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.
23Elles se renouvellent chaque matin. Oh! que ta fidélité est grande!
23חדשים לבקרים רבה אמונתך׃
24Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
24L'Eternel est mon partage, dit mon âme; C'est pourquoi je veux espérer en lui.
24חלקי יהוה אמרה נפשי על כן אוחיל לו׃
25Jehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
25L'Eternel a de la bonté pour qui espère en lui, Pour l'âme qui le cherche.
25טוב יהוה לקוו לנפש תדרשנו׃
26It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah.
26Il est bon d'attendre en silence Le secours de l'Eternel.
26טוב ויחיל ודומם לתשועת יהוה׃
27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
27Il est bon pour l'homme De porter le joug dans sa jeunesse.
27טוב לגבר כי ישא על בנעוריו׃
28Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.
28Il se tiendra solitaire et silencieux, Parce que l'Eternel le lui impose;
28ישב בדד וידם כי נטל עליו׃
29Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.
29Il mettra sa bouche dans la poussière, Sans perdre toute espérance;
29יתן בעפר פיהו אולי יש תקוה׃
30Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.
30Il présentera la joue à celui qui le frappe, Il se rassasiera d'opprobres.
30יתן למכהו לחי ישבע בחרפה׃
31For the Lord will not cast off for ever.
31Car le Seigneur Ne rejette pas à toujours.
31כי לא יזנח לעולם אדני׃
32For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
32Mais, lorsqu'il afflige, Il a compassion selon sa grande miséricorde;
32כי אם הוגה ורחם כרב חסדו׃
33For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.
33Car ce n'est pas volontiers qu'il humilie Et qu'il afflige les enfants des hommes.
33כי לא ענה מלבו ויגה בני איש׃
34To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,
34Quand on foule aux pieds Tous les captifs du pays,
34לדכא תחת רגליו כל אסירי ארץ׃
35To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,
35Quand on viole la justice humaine A la face du Très-Haut,
35להטות משפט גבר נגד פני עליון׃
36To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.
36Quand on fait tort à autrui dans sa cause, Le Seigneur ne le voit-il pas?
36לעות אדם בריבו אדני לא ראה׃
37Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?
37Qui dira qu'une chose arrive, Sans que le Seigneur l'ait ordonnée?
37מי זה אמר ותהי אדני לא צוה׃
38Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?
38N'est-ce pas de la volonté du Très-Haut que viennent Les maux et les biens?
38מפי עליון לא תצא הרעות והטוב׃
39Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
39Pourquoi l'homme vivant se plaindrait-il? Que chacun se plaigne de ses propres péchés.
39מה יתאונן אדם חי גבר על חטאו׃
40Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.
40Recherchons nos voies et sondons, Et retournons à l'Eternel;
40נחפשה דרכינו ונחקרה ונשובה עד יהוה׃
41Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
41Elevons nos coeurs et nos mains Vers Dieu qui est au ciel:
41נשא לבבנו אל כפים אל אל בשמים׃
42We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.
42Nous avons péché, nous avons été rebelles! Tu n'as point pardonné!
42נחנו פשענו ומרינו אתה לא סלחת׃
43Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
43Tu t'es caché dans ta colère, et tu nous as poursuivis; Tu as tué sans miséricorde;
43סכתה באף ותרדפנו הרגת לא חמלת׃
44Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.
44Tu t'es enveloppé d'un nuage, Pour fermer accès à la prière.
44סכותה בענן לך מעבור תפלה׃
45Thou hast made us an off-scouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.
45Tu nous as rendus un objet de mépris et de dédain Au milieu des peuples.
45סחי ומאוס תשימנו בקרב העמים׃
46All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
46Ils ouvrent la bouche contre nous, Tous ceux qui sont nos ennemis.
46פצו עלינו פיהם כל איבינו׃
47Fear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.
47Notre partage a été la terreur et la fosse, Le ravage et la ruine.
47פחד ופחת היה לנו השאת והשבר׃
48Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
48Des torrents d'eau coulent de mes yeux, A cause de la ruine de la fille de mon peuple.
48פלגי מים תרד עיני על שבר בת עמי׃
49Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,
49Mon oeil fond en larmes, sans repos, Sans relâche,
49עיני נגרה ולא תדמה מאין הפגות׃
50Till Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven.
50Jusqu'à ce que l'Eternel regarde et voie Du haut des cieux;
50עד ישקיף וירא יהוה משמים׃
51Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.
51Mon oeil me fait souffrir, A cause de toutes les filles de ma ville.
51עיני עוללה לנפשי מכל בנות עירי׃
52They have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.
52Ils m'ont donné la chasse comme à un oiseau, Ceux qui sont à tort mes ennemis.
52צוד צדוני כצפור איבי חנם׃
53They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.
53Ils ont voulu anéantir ma vie dans une fosse, Et ils ont jeté des pierres sur moi.
53צמתו בבור חיי וידו אבן בי׃
54Waters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.
54Les eaux ont inondé ma tête; Je disais: Je suis perdu!
54צפו מים על ראשי אמרתי נגזרתי׃
55I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.
55J'ai invoqué ton nom, ô Eternel, Du fond de la fosse.
55קראתי שמך יהוה מבור תחתיות׃
56Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
56Tu as entendu ma voix: Ne ferme pas l'oreille à mes soupirs, à mes cris!
56קולי שמעת אל תעלם אזנך לרוחתי לשועתי׃
57Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.
57Au jour où je t'ai invoqué, tu t'es approché, Tu as dit: Ne crains pas!
57קרבת ביום אקראך אמרת אל תירא׃
58O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.
58Seigneur, tu as défendu la cause de mon âme, Tu as racheté ma vie.
58רבת אדני ריבי נפשי גאלת חיי׃
59O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.
59Eternel, tu as vu ce qu'on m'a fait souffrir: Rends-moi justice!
59ראיתה יהוה עותתי שפטה משפטי׃
60Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.
60Tu as vu toutes leurs vengeances, Tous leurs complots contre moi.
60ראיתה כל נקמתם כל מחשבתם לי׃
61Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me,
61Eternel, tu as entendu leurs outrages, Tous leurs complots contre moi,
61שמעת חרפתם יהוה כל מחשבתם עלי׃
62The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.
62Les discours de mes adversaires, et les projets Qu'ils formaient chaque jour contre moi.
62שפתי קמי והגיונם עלי כל היום׃
63Behold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.
63Regarde quand ils sont assis et quand ils se lèvent: Je suis l'objet de leurs chansons.
63שבתם וקימתם הביטה אני מנגינתם׃
64Thou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.
64Tu leur donneras un salaire, ô Eternel, Selon l'oeuvre de leurs mains;
64תשיב להם גמול יהוה כמעשה ידיהם׃
65Thou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.
65Tu les livreras à l'endurcissement de leur coeur, A ta malédiction contre eux;
65תתן להם מגנת לב תאלתך להם׃
66Thou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.
66Tu les poursuivras dans ta colère, et tu les extermineras De dessous les cieux, ô Eternel!
66תרדף באף ותשמידם מתחת שמי יהוה׃
