¹Now about that time Herod the king put forth his hands to afflict certain of the church.

¹Sekitar masa itu juga Raja Herodes mulai menekan anggota-anggota jemaat.

²And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

²Atas perintahnya, Yakobus, saudara Yohanes dibunuh dengan pedang.

³And when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. And [those] were the days of unleavened bread.

³Ketika Herodes melihat bahwa perbuatannya itu menyenangkan hati orang-orang Yahudi, ia berbuat lagi yang seperti itu; ia menyuruh orang menangkap Petrus juga. Hal itu terjadi pada waktu Hari Raya Roti Tidak Beragi.

⁴And when he had taken him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him; intending after the Passover to bring him forth to the people.

⁴Setelah ditangkap, Petrus dimasukkan ke dalam penjara. Empat regu tentara ditugaskan untuk menjaga Petrus di situ--masing-masing regu terdiri dari empat orang anggota tentara. Sesudah perayaan Paskah selesai, baru Herodes akan mengadili Petrus di hadapan umum.

⁵Peter therefore was kept in the prison: but prayer was made earnestly of the church unto God for him.

⁵Jadi Petrus ditahan di penjara; tetapi anggota-anggota jemaat terus saja berdoa dengan sungguh-sungguh kepada Tuhan untuk Petrus.

⁶And when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and guards before the door kept the prison.

⁶Pada malam sebelum Herodes akan menghadapkan Petrus kepada umum, Petrus tidur terikat dengan dua belenggu di antara dua tentara pengawal. Di pintu penjara, pengawal-pengawal lain juga sedang menjaga penjara.

⁷And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shined in the cell: and he smote Peter on the side, and awoke him, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

⁷Tiba-tiba malaikat Tuhan berdiri di situ dan suatu cahaya bersinar di dalam kamar penjara itu. Malaikat itu menggoyang-goyang Petrus sampai ia bangun. Lalu malaikat itu berkata, "Hai, cepat bangun!" Saat itu juga jatuhlah rantai besi dari tangan Petrus.

⁸And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

⁸Sesudah itu malaikat itu berkata, "Pakailah pakaianmu dan ikatlah tali sepatumu." Maka Petrus pun memakai pakaiannya dan mengikat tali sepatunya. Kemudian malaikat itu berkata lagi, "Pakailah jubahmu dan ikutlah saya."

⁹And he went out, and followed; and he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel, but thought he saw a vision.

⁹Maka Petrus mengikuti malaikat itu keluar dari penjara. Tetapi Petrus tidak menyadari bahwa apa yang sedang dilakukan oleh malaikat itu adalah sesuatu yang sungguh-sungguh terjadi. Petrus mengira itu hanya suatu penglihatan.

¹⁰And when they were past the first and the second guard, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth into the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and straightway the angel departed from him.

¹⁰Pada waktu mereka sudah melewati tempat penjagaan pertama dan kedua, mereka sampai ke pintu besi, yang menuju ke kota. Pintu itu terbuka dengan sendirinya, lalu mereka keluar dan berjalan melalui suatu lorong. Tiba-tiba malaikat itu meninggalkan Petrus.

¹¹And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a truth, that the Lord hath sent forth his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

¹¹Sesudah itu barulah Petrus sadar akan apa yang telah terjadi padanya, lalu ia berkata, "Sekarang saya tahu bahwa Tuhan benar-benar sudah mengirim malaikat-Nya untuk melepaskan saya dari kuasa Herodes dan dari segala sesuatu yang akan dilakukan oleh bangsa Yahudi kepada saya."

¹²And when he had considered [the thing], he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together and were praying.

¹²Sesudah menyadari keadaan itu, Petrus pergi ke rumah Maria, ibu Yohanes yang disebut juga Markus. Di situ banyak orang berkumpul dan sedang berdoa.

¹³And when he knocked at the door of the gate, a maid came to answer, named Rhoda.

¹³Petrus mengetuk pintu luar, lalu seorang pelayan wanita bernama Rode, datang untuk membuka pintu.

¹⁴And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for joy, but ran in, and told that Peter stood before the gate.

¹⁴Langsung ia mengenal suara Petrus. Karena gembiranya, ia cepat-cepat masuk kembali tanpa membuka pintu, lalu memberitahukan kepada orang-orang di situ bahwa Petrus ada di luar.

¹⁵And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she confidently affirmed that it was even so. And they said, It is his angel.

¹⁵"Engkau gila!" kata mereka. Tetapi Rode berkeras bahwa itu sungguh-sungguh Petrus. Maka mereka berkata, "Itu malaikatnya!"

¹⁶But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed.

¹⁶Sementara itu Petrus terus saja mengetuk pintu. Maka ketika mereka membuka pintu, dan melihat Petrus, mereka heran sekali.

¹⁷But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him forth out of the prison. And he said, Tell these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went to another place.

¹⁷Petrus memberi isyarat dengan tangannya supaya mereka tenang, kemudian ia menceritakan bagaimana Tuhan telah membawa dia keluar dari penjara. Lalu ia berkata, "Beritahukanlah ini kepada Yakobus dan saudara-saudara lain juga." Sesudah itu Petrus meninggalkan tempat itu dan pergi ke tempat lain.

¹⁸Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

¹⁸Besok paginya terjadilah keributan di antara tentara pengawal. Mereka bingung sekali mengenai apa yang telah terjadi dengan Petrus.

¹⁹And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and tarried there.

¹⁹Lalu Herodes menyuruh orang mencari Petrus, tetapi mereka tidak bisa menemukan dia. Jadi Herodes memerintahkan supaya pengawal-pengawal itu ditanyai lalu dibunuh. Setelah itu Herodes pergi dari Yudea dan tinggal beberapa lama di Kaisarea.

²⁰Now he was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: and they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king's country.

²⁰Herodes marah sekali kepada orang-orang Tirus dan Sidon. Oleh sebab itu mereka bersama-sama datang menghadap dia. Mula-mula mereka membujuk Blastus, yang mengepalai istana Herodes, sehingga ia memihak mereka. Kemudian mereka pergi menghadap Herodes, lalu minta berdamai, sebab negeri mereka bergantung pada makanan dari negeri Herodes.

²¹And upon a set day Herod arrayed himself in royal apparel, and sat on the throne, and made an oration unto them.

²¹Pada suatu hari yang telah ditentukan, Herodes memakai pakaian kebesarannya lalu duduk di kursi kerajaan dan mulai berpidato di hadapan rakyat.

²²And the people shouted, [saying], The voice of a god, and not of a man.

²²Rakyat yang sedang mendengarkan itu berseru-seru, "Ini suara dewa, bukan suara manusia!"

²³And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

²³Pada saat itu juga malaikat Tuhan menampar Herodes, sebab ia tidak menghormati Allah. Herodes dimakan cacing lalu mati.

²⁴But the word of God grew and multiplied.

²⁴Maka perkataan Allah semakin tersebar luas dan semakin kuat.

²⁵And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministration, taking with them John whose surname was Mark.

²⁵Setelah Barnabas dan Saulus menyelesaikan tugas mereka, mereka kembali dari Yerusalem dengan membawa Yohanes Markus bersama-sama mereka.
