¹But there shall be no gloom to her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali; but in the latter time hath he made it glorious, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.

¹(8-23) Tetapi tidak untuk selamanya negeri itu mengalami kesesakan. Daerah yang didiami suku-suku Zebulon dan Naftali pernah dianggap rendah oleh TUHAN. Tetapi di masa yang akan datang, Ia akan memberi kehormatan kepada seluruh wilayah dari Laut Tengah ke timur sampai seberang Sungai Yordan, bahkan sampai Galilea yang didiami orang asing.

²The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

²(9-1) Bangsa yang hidup dalam kegelapan melihat sinar cemerlang. Yang diam dalam bayangan kematian disinari cahaya terang.

³Thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast increased their joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

³(9-2) TUHAN, Kauberi mereka sukacita besar, Kaubuat mereka bersorak-sorai. Mereka gembira karena kebaikan-Mu, seperti orang yang bersukaria waktu mengumpulkan panenan, atau membagi jarahan.

⁴For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, thou hast broken as in the day of Midian.

⁴(9-3) Engkau sudah mengambil bebannya yang berat dan kayu pikulan dari bahunya. Engkau mengalahkan bangsa penindas itu yang memeras umat-Mu. Sama seperti di zaman yang silam ketika Engkau mengalahkan tentara Midian.

⁵For all the armor of the armed man in the tumult, and the garments rolled in blood, shall be for burning, for fuel of fire.

⁵(9-4) Sepatu tentara yang berderap-derap dan bajunya yang berlumur darah, akan habis dimangsa api.

⁶For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

⁶(9-5) Seorang anak telah lahir bagi kita; kita dianugerahi seorang putra. Ia akan menjadi pemimpin kita. Ia dinamakan: "Penasihat Bijaksana", "Allah Perkasa", "Bapak Kekal", "Raja Damai".

⁷Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

⁷(9-6) Ia memerintah sebagai raja keturunan Daud, kekuasaannya sangat besar. Negerinya selalu damai sejahtera; pemerintahannya didasarkan atas hukum dan keadilan sekarang dan selama-lamanya. TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa pasti melaksanakannya.

⁸The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

⁸(9-7) TUHAN telah menjatuhkan hukuman atas kerajaan Israel.

⁹And all the people shall know, [even] Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in pride and in stoutness of heart,

⁹(9-8) Seluruh bangsa Israel dan penduduk Samaria akan mengetahui bahwa Tuhanlah yang melakukannya. Sekarang mereka sombong dan tinggi hati. Kata mereka,

¹⁰The bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stone; the sycomores are cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.

¹⁰(9-9) "Gedung-gedung dari batu bata sudah roboh, tapi kami akan membuat gedung-gedung baru dari batu. Pohon-pohon ara sudah ditebang, tapi akan kami ganti dengan kayu cemara Libanon yang paling bagus."

¹¹Therefore Jehovah will set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and will stir up his enemies,

¹¹(9-10) TUHAN sudah menggerakkan musuh mereka untuk melawan mereka.

¹²the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹²(9-11) Bangsa Siria di timur dan bangsa Filistin di barat mencaplok Israel. Tetapi TUHAN masih marah dan tetap menghukum.

¹³Yet the people have not turned unto him that smote them, neither have they sought Jehovah of hosts.

¹³(9-12) Bangsa Israel belum juga menyesal, walaupun sudah dihukum TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa; mereka belum juga bertobat kepada-Nya.

¹⁴Therefore Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm-branch and rush, in one day.

¹⁴(9-13) Karena itu dalam satu hari saja TUHAN menghukum para pemimpin Israel dan rakyatnya. Ia memenggal dan membuang kepala dan ekornya.

¹⁵The elder and the honorable man, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

¹⁵(9-14) Kepalanya yaitu orang tua-tua dan orang terhormat, ekornya yaitu para nabi yang memberi ajaran-ajaran yang menyesatkan.

¹⁶For they that lead this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

¹⁶(9-15) Para pemimpin bangsa itu telah menyesatkan dan mengacaukan rakyat.

¹⁷Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is profane and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹⁷(9-16) Bangsa itu sudah murtad dan bejat dan semua perkataan mereka jahat. Sebab itu di antara para pemuda tak seorang pun diluputkan TUHAN. Ia tidak mengasihani para janda dan yatim piatu. Tetapi TUHAN masih marah dan tetap menghukum.

¹⁸For wickedness burneth as the fire; it devoureth the briers and thorns; yea, it kindleth in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.

¹⁸(9-17) Kejahatan bangsa itu membakar seperti api yang memusnahkan semak belukar berduri. Nyalanya seperti hutan terbakar yang mengepul-ngepulkan asap.

¹⁹Through the wrath of Jehovah of hosts is the land burnt up; and the people are as the fuel of fire: no man spareth his brother.

¹⁹(9-18) TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa sangat marah, dan hukuman-Nya seperti api yang berkobar-kobar dan bangsa itu adalah bahan bakarnya yang dihabiskan. Tak seorang pun mengasihani saudaranya.

²⁰And one shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

²⁰(9-19) Di seluruh negeri itu orang merenggut dan makan apa saja yang dapat dimakan, tapi tidak merasa kenyang. Bahkan mereka makan rekan-rekan mereka sendiri!

²¹Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

²¹(9-20) Orang Manasye dan orang Efraim saling menyerang, lalu bersama-sama melawan Yehuda. Tetapi TUHAN masih marah dan tetap menghukum.
