1Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place for gold which they refine.
1Ada pertambangan di mana perak ditemukan; ada tempat di mana emas dimurnikan.
2Iron is taken out of the earth, And copper is molten out of the stone.
2Besi digali dari dalam tanah; dari batu dilelehkan tembaga.
3[Man] setteth an end to darkness, And searcheth out, to the furthest bound, The stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.
3Gelap yang pekat ditembusi, tempat yang paling dalam diselidiki. Di situ, di dalam kegelapan, orang mencari batu-batuan.
4He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; They are forgotten of the foot; They hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.
4Jauh di tempat yang tak ada penghuni, yang belum pernah diinjak dan dilalui, orang bekerja sambil bergantungan pada tali di dalam terowongan yang sunyi sepi.
5As for the earth, out of it cometh bread; And underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
5Tanah menghasilkan pangan bagi manusia, tapi di bawah tanah itu juga, semua dibongkarbalikkan sehingga isi bumi berantakan.
6The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, And it hath dust of gold.
6Batu di dalam tanah mengandung nilakandi, dan debunya berisikan emas murni.
7That path no bird of prey knoweth, Neither hath the falcon's eye seen it:
7Burung elang tak kenal jalan ke sana, dan burung nasar pun belum pernah terbang di atasnya.
8The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor hath the fierce lion passed thereby.
8Belum pernah singa maupun binatang buas lainnya melalui jalan sepi yang menuju ke sana.
9He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.
9Orang menggali dalam batu yang betapa pun kerasnya, dibongkarnya gunung sampai pada akarnya.
10He cutteth out channels among the rocks; And his eye seeth every precious thing.
10Ketika ia membuat tembusan di dalam gunung batu, didapatinya permata yang sangat bermutu.
11He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; And the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
11Sampai kepada sumber sungai-sungai ia menggali, lalu menyingkapkan apa yang tersembunyi.
12But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?
12Tetapi di manakah hikmat dapat dicari? Di manakah kita dapat belajar agar mengerti?
13Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living.
13Hikmat tidak ada di tengah-tengah manusia; tak ada yang tahu nilainya yang sesungguhnya.
14The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me.
14Dasar-dasar laut dan samudra berkata bahwa hikmat tidak ada padanya.
15It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
15Hikmat tak dapat ditukar walau dengan emas murni, dan dengan perak pun tak dapat dibeli.
16It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
16Emas dan permata yang paling berharga tidak dapat mengimbangi nilainya.
17Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
17Emas atau kaca halus tak dapat berbanding dengannya, tak dapat dibayar dengan jambangan kencana.
18No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
18Hikmat jauh lebih tinggi nilainya daripada merjan, kristal, atau mutiara.
19The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
19Batu topas yang asli dan emas yang murni, kurang nilainya dari akal budi.
20Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?
20Di manakah sumbernya kebijaksanaan? Di mana kita mendapat pengertian?
21Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens.
21Tak ada makhluk hidup yang pernah melihatnya, bahkan burung di udara tak menampaknya.
22Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.
22Maut dan kebinasaan pun berkata, mereka hanya mendengar desas-desus belaka.
23God understandeth the way thereof, And he knoweth the place thereof.
23Hanya Allah tahu tempat hikmat berada, hanya Dia mengetahui jalan ke sana,
24For he looketh to the ends of the earth, And seeth under the whole heaven;
24karena Ia melihat ujung-ujung bumi; segala sesuatu di bawah langit Ia amati.
25To make a weight for the wind: Yea, he meteth out the waters by measure.
25Ketika angin diberi-Nya kekuatan, dan ditetapkan-Nya batas-batas lautan;
26When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder;
26ketika ditentukan-Nya tempat hujan jatuh, dan jalan yang dilalui kilat dan guruh;
27Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.
27pada waktu itulah hikmat dilihat-Nya, diuji-Nya nilainya, lalu diberikan-Nya restu-Nya.
28And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.
28Allah berkata kepada manusia, "Untuk mendapat hikmat, Allah harus kamu hormati. Untuk dapat mengerti, kejahatan harus kamu jauhi."
