¹Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

¹Adoni-Zedek, raja Yerusalem, mendengar bahwa Yosua sudah merebut dan menghancurkan sama sekali kota Ai, serta membunuh rajanya seperti yang telah dilakukannya terhadap Yerikho dan rajanya. Ia mendengar juga bahwa orang Gibeon sudah mengadakan perjanjian persahabatan dengan orang-orang Israel dan tinggal di tengah-tengah mereka.

²that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

²Penduduk Yerusalem takut sekali, sebab Gibeon adalah kota yang besar; sama besarnya dengan kota-kota yang mempunyai raja, bahkan lebih besar dari Ai. Orang-orangnya pun pejuang-pejuang yang pandai bertempur.

³Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

³Sebab itu Adoni-Zedek mengutus orang kepada Raja Hoham di Hebron, Raja Piream di Yarmut, Raja Yafia di Lakhis, dan Raja Debir di Eglon, dengan membawa pesan ini,

⁴Come up unto me, and help me, and let us smite Gibeon; for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

⁴"Marilah membantu saya menyerang Gibeon, sebab orang-orangnya sudah mengadakan perjanjian persahabatan dengan Yosua dan orang Israel."

⁵Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.

⁵Maka kelima raja Amori itu, yaitu raja Yerusalem, Hebron, Yarmut, Lakhis dan Eglon bergabung, lalu dengan seluruh tentara mereka, mereka mengepung dan menyerang Gibeon.

⁶And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.

⁶Orang-orang Gibeon mengirim berita ini kepada Yosua di perkemahan di Gilgal, "Jangan biarkan kami sendirian, Tuan! Datanglah segera membantu kami, sebab tentara dari semua raja Amori di daerah pegunungan sudah bergabung melawan kami!"

⁷So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.

⁷Lalu Yosua dan seluruh tentaranya, termasuk pasukan-pasukannya yang terbaik, berangkat dari Gilgal untuk berperang.

⁸And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thy hands; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

⁸TUHAN berkata kepada Yosua, "Jangan takut kepada mereka. Kemenangan sudah Kuberikan kepadamu, oleh sebab itu tidak seorang pun dari mereka dapat bertahan melawanmu."

⁹Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly; [for] he went up from Gilgal all the night.

⁹Semalam-malaman Yosua dengan pasukannya bergerak dari Gilgal ke Gibeon, lalu menyerang orang-orang Amori secara mendadak.

¹⁰And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and he slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

¹⁰TUHAN membuat orang-orang Amori menjadi panik ketika melihat tentara Israel. Banyak orang Amori dibunuh di Gibeon, dan yang masih hidup dikejar menuruni lereng gunung di Bet-Horon sampai sejauh Azeka dan Makeda di sebelah selatan.

¹¹And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

¹¹Pada waktu orang-orang Amori sedang menuruni lereng gunung itu karena melarikan diri dari tentara Israel, TUHAN menjatuhkan hujan es yang besar-besar dari langit ke atas mereka sepanjang jalan sampai di Azeka. Yang mati ditimpa hujan es itu jauh lebih banyak dari yang dibunuh oleh orang Israel.

¹²Then spake Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; And thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.

¹²Pada hari itu ketika TUHAN memberikan kemenangan kepada orang Israel terhadap orang Amori, Yosua berbicara kepada TUHAN. Dan di hadapan orang Israel, Yosua berkata, "Hai matahari! Berhentilah di atas Gibeon. Dan kau bulan! Janganlah berpindah dari atas Lembah Ayalon."

¹³And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

¹³Maka matahari berhenti dan bulan tidak berpindah sampai orang Israel selesai mengalahkan musuh-musuhnya. Peristiwa ini tertulis dalam Buku Yasar. Sehari penuh matahari berhenti di tengah-tengah langit, dan lama sekali baru terbenam.

¹⁴And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of a man: for Jehovah fought for Israel.

¹⁴Tidak pernah terjadi dan juga tidak akan terjadi suatu hari seperti hari itu, bahwa TUHAN mengikuti keinginan manusia. TUHAN berperang di pihak Israel!

¹⁵And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁵Sesudah pertempuran itu, Yosua bersama-sama dengan tentaranya kembali ke perkemahan di Gilgal.

¹⁶And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

¹⁶Tetapi kelima raja Amori itu lolos dan bersembunyi dalam sebuah gua di Makeda.

¹⁷And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.

¹⁷Orang melihat mereka, dan memberitahukan tempat persembunyian mereka kepada Yosua.

¹⁸And Joshua said, Roll great stones unto the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to keep them:

¹⁸"Gulingkan batu-batu besar ke mulut gua itu, dan tempatkan pengawal di situ," kata Yosua,

¹⁹but stay not ye; pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for Jehovah your God hath delivered them into your hand.

¹⁹"tetapi kalian jangan berhenti di situ. Kejarlah terus, dan seranglah mereka dari belakang; jangan biarkan mereka masuk ke kota-kota mereka! TUHAN Allahmu sudah memberikan kemenangan kepadamu atas mereka."

²⁰And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,

²⁰Yosua dan orang Israel membunuh orang-orang Amori itu, tetapi ada juga di antara mereka yang lari ke kota mereka mencari perlindungan, sehingga tidak terbunuh.

²¹that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

²¹Kemudian semua tentara Yosua kembali dengan selamat kepada Yosua di perkemahan di Makeda. Tidak seorang pun di negeri itu berani mengatakan apa-apa menentang orang Israel.

²²Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth those five kings unto me out of the cave.

²²Sesudah itu Yosua berkata, "Sekarang buka mulut gua itu dan bawa kemari kelima orang raja itu."

²³And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

²³Gua itu pun dibuka, lalu raja-raja Yerusalem, Hebron, Yarmut, Lakhis dan Eglon digiring keluar,

²⁴And it came to pass, when they brought forth those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the chiefs of the men of war that went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

²⁴dan dibawa kepada Yosua. Lalu Yosua memanggil semua orang Israel berkumpul, kemudian memerintahkan supaya para perwira yang ikut bertempur dengan dia datang menginjak batang leher raja-raja itu. Para perwira itu pun datang dan menginjak batang leher raja-raja itu.

²⁵And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage: for thus shall Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

²⁵Sesudah itu, Yosua berkata kepada para perwiranya, "Jangan cemas dan jangan takut. Hendaklah kalian yakin dan berani, sebab beginilah caranya TUHAN akan memperlakukan semua musuhmu."

²⁶And afterward Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

²⁶Lalu Yosua membunuh raja-raja itu dan menggantung mereka pada lima tonggak. Mayat mereka dibiarkan di situ sampai sore.

²⁷And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, unto this very day.

²⁷Pada waktu matahari terbenam, atas perintah Yosua, mayat-mayat itu diturunkan lalu dilemparkan ke dalam gua yang tadinya dipakai oleh raja-raja itu untuk tempat bersembunyi. Kemudian batu besar-besar ditempatkan di mulut gua itu. Sampai sekarang batu-batu itu masih di situ.

²⁸And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof: he utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done unto the king of Jericho.

²⁸Hari itu Yosua menyerang Makeda, dan mengalahkan kota itu serta rajanya. Seluruh penduduk kota itu dibunuhnya; tidak seorang pun dibiarkan hidup. Yosua memperlakukan raja Makeda sama seperti ia memperlakukan raja Yerikho.

²⁹And Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

²⁹Sesudah itu, Yosua dengan tentaranya bergerak terus dari Makeda ke Libna dan menyerang Libna.

³⁰and Jehovah delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining in it; and he did unto the king thereof as he had done unto the king of Jericho.

³⁰TUHAN memberi juga kemenangan kepada orang Israel atas kota ini dan rajanya. Tidak seorang pun yang dibiarkan hidup; semua orang di dalam kota itu dibunuh. Yosua memperlakukan raja kota itu seperti ia memperlakukan raja Yerikho.

³¹And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

³¹Kemudian Yosua dan tentaranya maju dari Libna ke Lakhis. Mereka mengepung kota itu lalu menyerbunya.

³²and Jehovah delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel; and he took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

³²TUHAN memberikan kepada orang Israel kemenangan atas Lakhis dalam pertempuran pada hari kedua. Apa yang mereka lakukan di Libna, mereka lakukan juga di Lakhis; tidak seorang pun yang dibiarkan hidup, semuanya dibunuh.

³³Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

³³Horam, raja Gezer datang membantu Lakhis, tetapi Yosua mengalahkan dia dan tentaranya; tidak seorang pun yang tertinggal, semuanya mati.

³⁴And Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, unto Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it;

³⁴Berikutnya, Yosua dengan tentaranya maju dari Lakhis ke Eglon lalu mengepung dan menyerang kota itu.

³⁵and they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

³⁵Pada hari itu juga mereka merebut Eglon, dan membunuh semua orang di situ seperti yang mereka lakukan di Lakhis.

³⁶And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

³⁶Dari Eglon, Yosua dan tentaranya mendaki pegunungan dan pergi ke kota Hebron, lalu menyerang

³⁷and they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein.

³⁷dan merebut kota itu. Rajanya dan setiap orang di kota itu dan di kota-kota lain di sekitar situ, semua dibunuh. Yosua menghancurkan sama sekali kota itu seperti yang dilakukannya pada kota Eglon. Tidak seorang pun yang dibiarkan hidup di situ.

³⁸And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it:

³⁸Setelah itu, Yosua dan tentaranya kembali dan menyerang Debir.

³⁹and he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to the king thereof.

³⁹Kota itu dan rajanya serta semua kota lain di sekitar situ direbut oleh Yosua. Semua orang di situ dibunuh. Yosua memperlakukan Debir dan rajanya seperti ia memperlakukan Hebron dan Libna serta rajanya.

⁴⁰So Joshua smote all the land, the hill-country, and the South, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded.

⁴⁰Seluruh negeri itu ditaklukkan oleh Yosua. Ia mengalahkan raja-raja di daerah pegunungan, di lereng-lereng bukit sebelah timur, di kaki-kaki gunung sebelah barat, dan di padang-padang sebelah selatan. Tidak seorang pun yang dibiarkannya hidup; semuanya dibunuh. Itu sesuai dengan perintah dari TUHAN, Allah Israel.

⁴¹And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

⁴¹Yosua mengalahkan daerah-daerah dari Kades-Barnea di sebelah selatan sampai ke Gaza di dekat daerah pesisir, termasuk seluruh daerah Gosyen, terus sampai ke Gibeon di utara.

⁴²And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

⁴²Dalam hanya satu kali bertempur, Yosua mengalahkan semua raja itu dan merebut daerah-daerah kekuasaan mereka, karena TUHAN, Allah Israel, bertempur untuk Israel.

⁴³And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

⁴³Sesudah itu, Yosua kembali dengan tentaranya ke perkemahan di Gilgal.
