¹Hear ye this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel.

¹イスラエルの家よ、わたしが悲しみの歌をもって、あなたがたについて宣べるこの言葉を聞け、

²The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

²「おとめイスラエルは倒れて、また起き上がらず、彼女はおのれの地に投げ倒されてこれを起す者がない」。

³For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, to the house of Israel.

³主なる神はこう言われる、「イスラエルの家では、千人出た町は百人残り、百人出た町は十人残る」。

⁴For thus saith Jehovah unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live;

⁴主はイスラエルの家にこう言われる、「あなたがたはわたしを求めよ、そして生きよ。

⁵but seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.

⁵ベテルを求めるな、ギルガルに行くな。ベエルシバにおもむくな。ギルガルは必ず捕えられて行き、ベテルは無に帰するからである」。

⁶Seek Jehovah, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.

⁶あなたがたは主を求めよ、そして生きよ。さもないと主は火のようにヨセフの家に落ち下られる。火はこれを焼くが、ベテルのためにこれを消す者はひとりもない。

⁷Ye who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth,

⁷あなたがた、公道をにがよもぎに変え、正義を地に投げ捨てる者よ。

⁸[seek him] that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is his name);

⁸プレアデスおよびオリオンを造り、暗黒を朝に変じ、昼を暗くして夜となし、海の水を呼んで、地のおもてに注がれる者、その名は主という。

⁹that bringeth sudden destruction upon the strong, so that destruction cometh upon the fortress.

⁹主は滅びをたちまち強い者に臨ませられるので、滅びはついに城に臨む。

¹⁰They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

¹⁰彼らは門にいて戒める者を憎み、真実を語る者を忌みきらう。

¹¹Forasmuch therefore as ye trample upon the poor, and take exactions from him of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink the wine thereof.

¹¹あなたがたは貧しい者を踏みつけ、彼から麦の贈り物をとるゆえ、あなたがたは切り石の家を建てても、その中に住むことはできない。美しいぶどう畑を作っても、その酒を飲むことはできない。

¹²For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins-ye that afflict the just, that take a bribe, and that turn aside the needy in the gate [from their right].

¹²わたしは知る、あなたがたのとがは多く、あなたがたの罪は大きいからである。あなたがたは正しい者をしえたげ、まいないを取り、門で貧しい者を退ける。

¹³Therefore he that is prudent shall keep silence in such a time; for it is an evil time.

¹³それゆえ、このような時には賢い者は沈黙する、これは悪い時だからである。

¹⁴Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live; and so Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be with you, as ye say.

¹⁴善を求めよ、悪を求めるな。そうすればあなたがたは生きることができる。またあなたがたが言うように、万軍の神、主はあなたがたと共におられる。

¹⁵Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate: it may be that Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁵悪を憎み、善を愛し、門で公義を立てよ。万軍の神、主は、あるいはヨセフの残りの者をあわれまれるであろう。

¹⁶Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the Lord: Wailing shall be in all the broad ways; and they shall say in all the streets, Alas! Alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to wailing.

¹⁶それゆえ、主なる万軍の神、主はこう言われる、「すべての広場で泣くことがあろう。すべてのちまたで人々は『悲しいかな、悲しいかな』と言う。また彼らは農夫を呼んできて嘆かせ、巧みな泣き女を招いて泣かせ、

¹⁷And in all vineyards shall be wailing; for I will pass through the midst of thee, saith Jehovah.

¹⁷またすべてのぶどう畑にも泣くことがあろう。それはわたしがあなたがたの中を通るからである」と主は言われる。

¹⁸Woe unto you that desire the day of Jehovah! Wherefore would ye have the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light.

¹⁸わざわいなるかな、主の日を望む者よ、あなたがたは何ゆえ主の日を望むのか。これは暗くて光がない。

¹⁹As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹⁹人がししの前を逃れてもくまに出会い、また家にはいって、手を壁につけると、へびにかまれるようなものである。

²⁰Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

²⁰主の日は暗くて、光がなく、薄暗くて輝きがないではないか。

²¹I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies.

²¹わたしはあなたがたの祭を憎み、かつ卑しめる。わたしはまた、あなたがたの聖会を喜ばない。

²²Yea, though ye offer me your burnt-offerings and meal-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts.

²²たといあなたがたは燔祭や素祭をささげても、わたしはこれを受けいれない。あなたがたの肥えた獣の酬恩祭はわたしはこれを顧みない。

²³Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

²³あなたがたの歌の騒がしい音をわたしの前から断て。あなたがたの琴の音は、わたしはこれを聞かない。

²⁴But let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

²⁴公道を水のように、正義をつきない川のように流れさせよ。

²⁵Did ye bring unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

²⁵「イスラエルの家よ、あなたがたは四十年の間、荒野でわたしに犠牲と供え物をささげたか。

²⁶Yea, ye have borne the tabernacle of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

²⁶かえってあなたがたの王シクテをにない、あなたがたが自分で作ったあなたがたの偶像、星の神、キウンをになった。それゆえわたしはあなたがたをダマスコのかなたに捕え移す」と、その名を万軍の神ととなえられる主は言われる。

²⁷Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith Jehovah, whose name is the God of hosts.
