¹Then he cried in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause ye them that have charge over the city to draw near, every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.

¹時に彼はわたしの耳に大声に呼ばわって言われた、「町を罰する者たちよ、おのおの滅ぼす武器をその手に持って近よれ」と。

²And behold, six men came from the way of the upper gate, which lieth toward the north, every man with his slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man in the midst of them clothed in linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side. And they went in, and stood beside the brazen altar.

²見よ、北に向かう上の門の道から出て来る六人の者があった。おのおのその手に滅ぼす武器を持ち、彼らの中のひとりは亜麻布を着、その腰に物を書く墨つぼをつけていた。彼らははいって来て、青銅の祭壇のかたわらに立った。

³And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon it was, to the threshold of the house: and he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the writer's inkhorn by his side.

³ここにイスラエルの神の栄光がその座しているケルビムから立ちあがって、宮の敷居にまで至った。そして主は、亜麻布を着て、その腰に物を書く墨つぼをつけている者を呼び、

⁴And Jehovah said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done in the midst thereof.

⁴彼に言われた、「町の中、エルサレムの中をめぐり、その中で行われているすべての憎むべきことに対して嘆き悲しむ人々の額にしるしをつけよ」。

⁵And to the others he said in my hearing, Go ye through the city after him, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity;

⁵またわたしの聞いている所で他の者に言われた、「彼のあとに従い町をめぐって、撃て。あなたの目は惜しみ見るな。またあわれむな。

⁶slay utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin, and little children and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark: and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the old men that were before the house.

⁶老若男女をことごとく殺せ。しかし身にしるしのある者には触れるな。まずわたしの聖所から始めよ」。そこで、彼らは宮の前にいた老人から始めた。

⁷And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and smote in the city.

⁷この時、主は彼らに言われた、「宮を汚し、死人で庭を満たせ。行け」。そこで彼らは出て行って、町の中で撃った。

⁸And it came to pass, while they were smiting, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord Jehovah! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy wrath upon Jerusalem?

⁸さて彼らが人々を打ち殺していた時、わたしひとりだけが残されたので、ひれ伏して、叫んで言った、「ああ主なる神よ、あなたがエルサレムの上に怒りを注がれるとき、イスラエルの残りの者を、ことごとく滅ぼされるのですか」。

⁹Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of wrestling [of judgment]: for they say, Jehovah hath forsaken the land, and Jehovah seeth not.

⁹主はわたしに言われた、「イスラエルとユダの家の罪は非常に大きい。国は血で満ち、町は不義で満ちている。彼らは言う、『主はこの地を捨てられた。主は顧みられない』。

¹⁰And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.

¹⁰それゆえ、わたしの目は彼らを惜しみ見ず、またあわれまない。彼らの行うところを、彼らのこうべに報いる」。時に、かの亜麻布を着、物を書く墨つぼを腰につけていた人が報告して言った、「わたしはあなたがお命じになったように行いました」。

¹¹And behold, the man clothed in linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.
