¹And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

¹ユダの王ヨシヤの子エホヤキムの四年に主からこの言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ、

²Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

²「あなたは巻物を取り、わたしがあなたに語った日、すなわちヨシヤの日から今日に至るまで、イスラエルとユダと万国とに関してあなたに語ったすべての言葉を、それにしるしなさい。

³It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

³ユダの家がわたしの下そうとしているすべての災を聞いて、おのおのその悪い道を離れて帰ることもあろう。そうすれば、わたしはそのとがとその罪をゆるすかも知れない」。

⁴Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

⁴そこでエレミヤはネリヤの子バルクを呼んだ。バルクはエレミヤの口述にしたがって、主が彼にお告げになった言葉をことごとく巻物に書きしるした。

⁵And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of Jehovah:

⁵そしてエレミヤはバルクに命じて言った、「わたしは主の宮に行くことを妨げられている。

⁶therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah's house upon the fast-day; and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

⁶それで、あなたが行って、断食の日に主の宮で、すべての民が聞いているところで、あなたがわたしの口述にしたがって、巻物に筆記した主の言葉を読みなさい。またユダの人々がその町々から来て聞いているところで、それを読みなさい。

⁷It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people.

⁷彼らは主の前に祈願をささげ、おのおのその悪い道を離れて帰ることもあろう。主がこの民に対して宣告された怒りと憤りは大きいからである」。

⁸And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah's house.

⁸こうしてネリヤの子バルクはすべて預言者エレミヤが自分に命じたように、主の宮で、その巻物に書かれた主の言葉を読んだ。

⁹Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah.

⁹ユダの王ヨシヤの子エホヤキムの五年九月、エルサレムのすべての民と、ユダの町々からエルサレムに来たすべての民とは、主の前に断食を行うべきことを告げ示された。

¹⁰Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house, in the ears of all the people.

¹⁰バルクは主の宮の上の庭で、主の宮の新しい門の入口のかたわらにある書記シャパンの子であるゲマリヤのへやで、巻物に書かれたエレミヤの言葉をすべての民に読み聞かせた。

¹¹And when Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of Jehovah,

¹¹シャパンの子であるゲマリヤの子ミカヤはその巻物にある主の言葉をことごとく聞いて、

¹²he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes were sitting there, [to wit], Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

¹²王の家にある書記のへやに下って行くと、もろもろのつかさたち、すなわち書記エリシャマ、シマヤの子デラヤ、アカボルの子エルナタン、シャパンの子ゲマリヤ、ハナニヤの子ゼデキヤおよびすべてのつかさたちがそこに座していた。

¹³Then Micaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

¹³ミカヤはバルクが民に巻物を読んで聞かせたとき、自分の聞いたすべての言葉を彼らに告げたので、

¹⁴Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

¹⁴つかさたちはクシの子セレミヤの子であるネタニヤの子エホデをバルクのもとにつかわして言わせた、「あなたが民に読み聞かせたその巻物を手に取って、来てください」。そこでネリヤの子バルクは巻物を手に取って、彼らのもとに来たので、

¹⁵And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

¹⁵彼らはバルクに言った、「座してそれを読んでください」。バルクはそれを彼らに読みきかせた。

¹⁶Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

¹⁶彼らはそのすべての言葉を聞き、恐れて互に見かわし、バルクに言った、「われわれはこのすべての言葉を、王に報告しなければならない」。

¹⁷And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

¹⁷そしてバルクに尋ねて言った、「このすべての言葉を、あなたがどのようにして書いたのか話してください。彼の口述によるのですか」。

¹⁸Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

¹⁸バルクは彼らに答えた、「彼がわたしにこのすべての言葉を口述したので、わたしはそれを墨汁で巻物に書いたのです」。

¹⁹Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye are.

¹⁹つかさたちはバルクに言った、「行って、エレミヤと一緒に身を隠しなさい。人に所在を知られてはなりません」。

²⁰And they went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

²⁰そこで彼らは巻物を書記エリシャマのへやに置いて庭にはいり、王のもとへ行って、このすべての言葉を王に告げたので、

²¹So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll; and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes that stood beside the king.

²¹王はその巻物を持ってこさせるためにエホデをつかわした。エホデは書記エリシャマのへやから巻物を取ってきて、それを王と王のかたわらに立っているすべてのつかさたちに読みきかせた。

²²Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month: and [there was a fire in] the brazier burning before him.

²²時は九月であって、王は冬の家に座していた。その前に炉があって火が燃えていた。

²³And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that [the king] cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

²³エホデが三段か四段を読むと、王は小刀をもってそれを切り取り、炉の火に投げいれ、ついに巻物全部を炉の火で焼きつくした。

²⁴And they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

²⁴王とその家来たちはこのすべての言葉を聞いても恐れず、またその着物を裂くこともしなかった。

²⁵Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll; but he would not hear them.

²⁵エルナタン、デラヤおよびゲマリヤが王にその巻物を焼かないようにと願ったときにも彼は聞きいれなかった。

²⁶And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah hid them.

²⁶そして王は王子エラメルとアヅリエルの子セラヤとアブデルの子セレミヤに、書記バルクと預言者エレミヤを捕えるようにと命じたが、主は彼らを隠された。

²⁷Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

²⁷バルクがエレミヤの口述にしたがって筆記した言葉を載せた巻物を王が焼いた後、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ、

²⁸Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

²⁸「他の巻物を取り、ユダの王エホヤキムが焼いた、前の巻物のうちにある言葉を皆それに書きしるしなさい。

²⁹And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

²⁹またユダの王エホヤキムについて言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、あなたはこの巻物を焼いて言った、「どうしてあなたはこの巻物に、バビロンの王が必ず来てこの地を滅ぼし、ここから人と獣とを絶やす、と書いたのか」と。

³⁰Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

³⁰それゆえ主はユダの王エホヤキムについてこう言われる、彼の子孫にはダビデの位にすわる者がなくなる。また彼の死体は捨てられて昼は暑さにあい、夜は霜にあう。

³¹And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they hearkened not.

³¹わたしはまた彼とその子孫とその家来たちをその罪のために罰する。また彼らとエルサレムの民とユダの人々には災を下す。この災のことについては、すでに語ったけれども、彼らは聞くことをしなかった』」。そこでエレミヤは他の巻物を取り、ネリヤの子書記バルクに与えたので、バルクはユダの王エホヤキムが火にくべて焼いた巻物のすべての言葉を、エレミヤの口述にしたがってそれに書きしるし、また同じような言葉を多くそれに加えた。

³²Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides unto them many like words.

³²そこでエレミヤは他の巻物を取り、ネリヤの子書記バルクに与えたので、バルクはユダの王エホヤキムが火にくべて焼いた巻物のすべての言葉を、エレミヤの口述にしたがってそれに書きしるし、また同じような言葉を多くそれに加えた。
