¹Flee for safety, ye children of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise up a signal on Beth-haccherem; for evil looketh forth from the north, and a great destruction.

¹ベニヤミンの人々よ、エルサレムの中から避難せよ。テコアでラッパを吹き、ベテハケレムに合図の火をあげよ。北から災が臨み、大いなる滅びが来るからである。

²The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off.

²わたしは美しい、たおやかなシオンの娘を滅ぼす。

³Shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

³牧者たちは、その群れをひきいて来て、彼女を攻め、彼女の周囲に天幕を張る。群れはおのおのその所で草を食う。

⁴Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day declineth, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

⁴「戦いを始め、彼女を攻めよ。立て、われわれは真昼に攻撃しよう」。「わざわいなるかな、日ははや傾き、夕日の影は長くなった」。

⁵Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

⁵「立て、われわれは夜の間に攻撃しよう、そして彼女のもろもろの宮殿を破壊しよう」。

⁶For thus hath Jehovah of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

⁶万軍の主はこう言われる、「あなたがたは彼女の木を切り倒し、エルサレムにむかって塁を築け。これは罰すべき町である、そのうちにはただ圧制だけがある。

⁷As a well casteth forth its waters, so she casteth forth her wickedness: violence and destruction is heard in her; before me continually is sickness and wounds.

⁷井戸に新しい水がわくように彼女はその悪を常にあらたに流す。そのうちには暴虐と破滅とが聞える。わたしの前に病と傷とが絶えない。

⁸Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

⁸エルサレムよ、戒めを受けいれよ。さもないと、わたしはあなたから離れ、あなたを荒れ地とし、住む人のない地とする」。

⁹Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn again thy hand as a grape-gatherer into the baskets.

⁹万軍の主はこう言われる、「ぶどうの残りを摘みとるように、イスラエルの残りの民をのこらず摘み取れ。ぶどうを摘みとる人のように、あなたの手をふたたびその枝に伸ばせ」。

¹⁰To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Jehovah is become unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

¹⁰わたしはだれに語り、だれを戒めて、聞かせようか。見よ、彼らの耳は閉ざされて、聞くことができない。見よ、彼らは主の言葉をあざけり、それを喜ばない。

¹¹Therefore I am full of the wrath of Jehovah; I am weary with holding in: pour it out upon the children in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

¹¹それゆえ、わたしの身には主の怒りが満ち、それを忍ぶのに、うみつかれている。「それをちまたにいる子供らと、集まっている若い人々とに漏らせ。夫も妻も、老いた人も、年のひじょうに進んだ人も捕えられ、

¹²And their houses shall be turned unto others, their fields and their wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith Jehovah.

¹²彼らの家と畑と妻とは共に他人に渡る。わたしが手を伸ばして、この地に住む者を撃つからである」と主は言われる。

¹³For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

¹³「それは彼らが、小さい者から大きい者まで、みな不正な利をむさぼり、また預言者から祭司にいたるまで、みな偽りを行っているからだ。

¹⁴They have healed also the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

¹⁴彼らは、手軽にわたしの民の傷をいやし、平安がないのに『平安、平安』と言っている。

¹⁵Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall; at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith Jehovah.

¹⁵彼らは憎むべきことをして、恥じたであろうか。すこしも恥ずかしいとは思わず、また恥じることを知らなかった。それゆえ彼らは倒れる者と共に倒れる。わたしが彼らを罰するとき、彼らは倒れる」と主は言われる。

¹⁶Thus saith Jehovah, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk [therein].

¹⁶主はこう言われる、「あなたがたはわかれ道に立って、よく見、いにしえの道につき、良い道がどれかを尋ねて、その道に歩み、そしてあなたがたの魂のために、安息を得よ。しかし彼らは答えて、『われわれはその道に歩まない』と言った。

¹⁷And I set watchmen over you, [saying], Hearken to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not hearken.

¹⁷わたしはあなたがたの上に見張びとを立て、『ラッパの音に気をつけよ』と言った。しかし彼らは答えて、『われわれは気をつけることはしない』と言った。

¹⁸Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

¹⁸それゆえ国々の民よ、聞け。会衆よ、彼らにどのようなことが起るかを知れ。

¹⁹Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it.

¹⁹地よ、聞け。見よ、わたしはこの民に災をくだす。それは彼らのたくらみの実である。彼らがわたしの言葉に気をつけず、わたしのおきてを捨てたからである。

²⁰To what purpose cometh there to me frankincense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing unto me.

²⁰シバから、わたしの所に乳香が来、遠い国から、菖蒲が来るのはなんのためか。あなたがたの燔祭はわたしには喜ばしくなく、あなたがたの犠牲もうれしくはない。

²¹Therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will lay stumbling-blocks before this people; and the fathers and the sons together shall stumble against them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish.

²¹それゆえ主はこう言われる、『見よ、わたしはこの民の前につまずく石を置く、人々は父も子も共にそれにつまずき、隣り人もその友も滅びる』」。

²²Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, a people cometh from the north country; and a great nation shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

²²主はこう言われる、「見よ、民が北の国から来る、大いなる国民が地の果から興る。

²³They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea, and they ride upon horses, every one set in array, as a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Zion.

²³彼らは弓とやりをとる。彼らは残忍で、あわれみがなく、海のような響きを立てる。シオンの娘よ、彼らは馬に乗り、いくさ人のように身をよろって、あなたを攻める」。

²⁴We have heard the report thereof; our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, [and] pangs as of a woman in travail.

²⁴われわれはそのうわさを聞いて、手は弱り、子を産む女に臨むような悩みと苦しみとに捕えられた。

²⁵Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy, [and] terror, are on every side.

²⁵畑に出てはならない、また道を歩いてはならない。敵はつるぎを持ち、恐れが四方にあるからだ。

²⁶O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.

²⁶わが民の娘よ、荒布を身にまとい、灰の中にまろび、ひとり子を失った時のように、悲しみ、いたく嘆け。滅ぼす者が、にわかにわれわれを襲うからだ。

²⁷I have made thee a trier [and] a fortress among my people; that thou mayest know and try their way.

²⁷「わたしはあなたを民のうちに立てて、ためす者、試みる者とした。あなたが彼らの道を知り、それをためすことができるようにするためである。

²⁸They are all grievous revolters, going about with slanders; they are brass and iron: they all of them deal corruptly.

²⁸彼らはみな、強情な反逆者であって、歩きまわって人をそしる。彼らは青銅や鉄であって、みな卑しいことを行う。

²⁹The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away.

²⁹ふいごは激しく吹き、鉛は火にとけて尽き、精錬はいたずらに進む。悪しき者がまだ除かれないからである。主が彼らを捨てられたので、彼らは捨てられた銀と呼ばれる」。

³⁰Refuse silver shall men them, because Jehovah hath rejected them.

³⁰主が彼らを捨てられたので、彼らは捨てられた銀と呼ばれる」。
