¹And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should slay David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted much in David.

¹Saul talte til Jonatan, sin sønn, og til alle sine tjenere om å drepe David; men Jonatan, Sauls sønn, hadde David meget kjær.

²And Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to slay thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself in the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

²Og Jonatan fortalte det til David og sa: Saul, min far, søker å drepe dig; ta dig nu i vare imorgen tidlig og bli i skjul og hold dig gjemt!

³and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and if I see aught, I will tell thee.

³Så vil jeg gå ut og stå ved siden av min far på marken hvor du er, og jeg vil tale om dig til min far, og merker jeg noget, så skal jeg si dig det.

⁴And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:

⁴Og Jonatan talte vel om David til Saul, sin far, og sa til ham: Kongen skulde ikke gjøre urett mot sin tjener David! For han har ikke syndet mot dig, og det han har gjort, har vært til stor nytte for dig;

⁵for he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Jehovah wrought a great victory for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice; wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

⁵han satte sitt liv på spill og slo filisteren, og Herren lot hele Israel vinne en stor seier; du så det selv og gledet dig; hvorfor vil du da gjøre synd mot uskyldig blod og drepe David uten grunn?

⁶And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As Jehovah liveth, he shall not be put to death.

⁶Saul hørte på Jonatans ord, og Saul svor: Så sant Herren lever: Han skal ikke drepes!

⁷And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as beforetime.

⁷Da kalte Jonatan på David og fortalte ham alt dette; og Jonatan førte David til Saul, og han var hos ham som før.

⁸And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled before him.

⁸Men krigen varte ved; og David drog ut og stred mot filistrene og påførte dem et stort mannefall, og de flyktet for ham.

⁹And an evil spirit from Jehovah was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing with his hand.

⁹Og en ond ånd fra Herren kom over Saul mens han satt i sitt hus med sitt spyd i hånden, og David spilte på harpen.

¹⁰And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the spear into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

¹⁰Da søkte Saul å støte spydet gjennem David og inn i veggen; men han vek til side for Saul, så han støtte spydet i veggen. Samme natt flyktet David og slapp bort.

¹¹And Saul sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal, David's wife, told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to-night, to-morrow thou wilt be slain.

¹¹Og Saul sendte bud til Davids hus for å vokte på ham og drepe ham om morgenen; men Mikal, Davids hustru, varslet ham om det og sa: Berger du ikke ditt liv inatt, så blir du drept imorgen.

¹²So Michal let David down through the window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

¹²Og Mikal firte David ned gjennem vinduet, og han flyktet sin vei og slapp bort.

¹³And Michal took the teraphim, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' [hair] at the head thereof, and covered it with the clothes.

¹³Så tok Mikal husguden og la den i sengen, og hun la et teppe av gjetehår ved dens hode og dekket den til med et klæde;

¹⁴And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

¹⁴og da Saul sendte bud for å hente David, sa hun: Han er syk.

¹⁵And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

¹⁵Så sendte Saul budene avsted for å få se David og sa: Bær ham hit til mig i sengen, forat han kan bli drept!

¹⁶And when the messengers came in, behold, the teraphim was in the bed, with the pillow of goats' [hair] at the head thereof.

¹⁶Men da budene kom inn, fikk de se at det var husguden som lå i sengen med gjetehårsteppet ved hodet.

¹⁷And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me thus, and let mine enemy go, so that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

¹⁷Da sa Saul til Mikal: Hvorfor har du narret mig således og latt min fiende slippe bort, så han er kommet unda? Mikal svarte Saul: Han sa til mig: La mig slippe bort, ellers slår jeg dig ihjel.

¹⁸Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

¹⁸Da David var flyktet og hadde sloppet bort, kom han til Samuel i Rama og fortalte ham alt hvad Saul hadde gjort mot ham, og han og Samuel tok avsted til Nevajot og bodde der.

¹⁹And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

¹⁹Da Saul fikk spurt at David var i Nevajot ved Rama,

²⁰And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

²⁰sendte han nogen menn for å hente David, og da de fikk se profetenes skare, som var i profetisk henrykkelse, og Samuel stående der som deres fører, da kom Guds Ånd over Sauls sendebud, så de og blev grepet av profetisk henrykkelse.

²¹And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.

²¹Da Saul fikk vite dette, sendte han andre bud; men de blev og grepet av profetisk henrykkelse. Så sendte Saul bud igjen for tredje gang; men også de blev grepet av profetisk henrykkelse.

²²Then went he also to Ramah, and came to the great well that is in Secu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.

²²Da gikk han selv til Rama, og da han kom til den store brønn i Seku, spurte han: Hvor er Samuel og David? De svarte: De er i Nevajot ved Rama.

²³And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

²³Da han så gikk dit, til Nevajot ved Rama, kom Guds Ånd også over ham, så at han hele veien gikk i profetisk henrykkelse til han kom til Nevajot ved Rama.

²⁴And he also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

²⁴Da rev han og klærne av sig; også han var i profetisk henrykkelse mens han stod foran Samuel, og han falt ned og lå der naken* hele den dag og hele natten; derfor sier folk: Er også Saul blandt profetene? / {* d.e. uten overkjortel, JES 20, 2.}
