¹Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt-offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of Jehovah filled the house.

²And the priests could not enter into the house of Jehovah, because the glory of Jehovah filled Jehovah's house.

³And all the children of Israel looked on, when the fire came down, and the glory of Jehovah was upon the house; and they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and gave thanks unto Jehovah, [saying], For he is good; for his lovingkindness [endureth] for ever.

³Alle Israels barn så hvorledes ilden falt ned, og Herrens herlighet kom over huset; da kastet de sig ned på gulvet med ansiktet mot jorden og tilbad og lovet Herren, fordi han er god, og hans miskunnhet varer evindelig.

⁴Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before Jehovah.

⁴Og kongen og alt folket ofret slaktoffer for Herrens åsyn.

⁵And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

⁵To og tyve tusen stykker storfe og hundre og tyve tusen stykker småfe var det slaktoffer som kong Salomo bar frem. Således var det kongen og alt folket innvidde Guds hus.

⁶And the priests stood, according to their offices; the Levites also with instruments of music of Jehovah, which David the king had made to give thanks unto Jehovah, (for his lovingkindness [endureth] for ever,) when David praised by their ministry: and the priests sounded trumpets before them; and all Israel stood.

⁶Og prestene stod på sine poster, og levittene stod med Herrens musikkinstrumenter, som kong David hadde latt gjøre til å prise Herren med, fordi hans miskunnhet varer evindelig; for David lot dem* utføre lovsangen. ⁷Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of Jehovah; for there he offered the burnt-offerings, and the fat of the peace-offerings, because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt-offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat.

⁷Og Salomo helliget den midterste del av forgården som var foran Herrens hus; for der ofret han brennofferne og fettstykkene av takkofferne, fordi kobberalteret som Salomo hadde gjort, ikke kunde rumme brennofferet og matofferet og fettstykkene.

⁸So Solomon held the feast at that time seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt.

⁸I syv dager feiret Salomo dengang festen*, og hele Israel med ham, en stor mengde folk som var kommet sammen like fra Hamatveien og til Egyptens bekk. / {* 1KG 8, 2.}

⁹And on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

⁹Og på den åttende dag holdt de en festforsamling; for alterets innvielse feiret de i syv dager og festen i syv dager.

¹⁰And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away unto their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the goodness that Jehovah had showed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.

¹⁰På den tre og tyvende dag i den syvende måned lot han folket fare hjem igjen, glade og vel til mote over det gode Herren hadde gjort mot David og Salomo og mot sitt folk Israel.

¹¹Thus Solomon finished the house of Jehovah, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of Jehovah, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.

¹¹Salomo var nu ferdig med å bygge Herrens hus og kongens hus; og alt det han hadde hatt i sinne å gjøre i Herrens hus og i sitt eget hus, hadde han lykkelig utført.

¹²And Jehovah appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice.

¹²Da åpenbarte Herren sig for Salomo om natten og sa til ham: Jeg har hørt din bønn og utvalgt dette sted til et offersted for mig.

¹³If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

¹³Når jeg lukker himmelen, så det ikke kommer regn, og når jeg byder gresshopper å fortære landet, og når jeg sender pest iblandt mitt folk,

¹⁴if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

¹⁴og så mitt folk, som er kalt med mitt navn, ydmyker sig og beder og søker mitt åsyn og vender om fra sine onde veier, så vil jeg høre fra himmelen og forlate deres synd og læge deres land.

¹⁵Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place.

¹⁵Nu skal mine øine være oplatt og mine ører merke på den bønn som bedes på dette sted.

¹⁶For now have I chosen and hallowed this house, that my name may be there for ever; and mine eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

¹⁶Og nu har jeg utvalgt og helliget dette hus, forat mitt navn skal bo der til evig tid, og mine øine og mitt hjerte skal være der alle dager.

¹⁷And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and mine ordinances;

¹⁷Hvis du nu vandrer for mitt åsyn, som din far David gjorde, så du gjør alt det jeg har befalt dig, og holder mine bud og mine lover,

¹⁸then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.

¹⁸så vil jeg trygge din kongetrone efter den pakt jeg gjorde med din far David da jeg sa: Det skal aldri fattes en mann av din ætt til å råde over Israel.

¹⁹But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

¹⁹Men hvis I vender eder bort og forlater de lover og bud som jeg har forelagt eder, og gir eder til å tjene andre guder og tilbede dem,

²⁰then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

²⁰så vil jeg rykke dem op av mitt land, som jeg har gitt dem, og dette hus som jeg har helliget for mitt navn, vil jeg forkaste fra mitt åsyn og gjøre det til et ordsprog og til en spott blandt alle folk.

²¹And this house, which is so high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall say, Why hath Jehovah done thus unto this land, and to this house?

²¹Og hver den som går forbi dette hus, som har vært så ophøiet, skal forferdes, og når nogen da spør: Hvorfor har Herren gjort således mot dette land og dette hus?

²²And they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

²²da skal de svare: Fordi de forlot Herren, sine fedres Gud, som førte dem ut av Egyptens land, og holdt sig til andre guder og tilbad dem og dyrket dem; derfor har han ført all denne ulykke over dem.
