¹All the commandment which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah sware unto your fathers.

¹Alle de bud jeg gir dig idag, skal I akte vel på å holde, forat I må leve og bli tallrike og komme inn i det land Herren har tilsvoret eders fedre, og ta det i eie.

²And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or not.

²Og du skal komme i hu hele den vei Herren din Gud har ført dig på i disse firti år i ørkenen for å ydmyke dig og prøve dig og for å kjenne hvad som var i ditt hjerte, om du vilde ta vare på hans bud eller ikke.

³And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by everything that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.

³Og han ydmyket dig og lot dig hungre, og han gav dig manna å ete, en mat som hverken du eller dine fedre kjente, fordi han vilde la dig vite at mennesket ikke lever av brød alene, men at mennesket lever av hvert ord som går ut av Herrens munn.

⁴Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

⁴Dine klær blev ikke utslitt på dig, og din fot blev ikke hoven i disse firti år.

⁵And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee.

⁵Så forstå da i ditt hjerte at likesom en mann optukter sin sønn, således optuktet Herren din Gud dig,

⁶And thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

⁶og hold Herrens, din Guds bud, så du vandrer på hans veier og frykter ham!

⁷For Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;

⁷Når Herren din Gud fører dig inn i et godt land, et land med rinnende bekker, med kilder og dype vann, som veller frem i dalene og på fjellene,

⁸a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey;

⁸et land med hvete og bygg og vintrær og fikentrær og granatepletrær, et land med oljetrær og honning,

⁹a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig copper.

⁹et land hvor du ikke skal ete ditt brød i armod, hvor du intet skal mangle, et land hvor stenene er jern, og hvor du kan hugge ut kobber av fjellene,

¹⁰And thou shalt eat and be full, and thou shalt bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.

¹⁰og når du så eter og blir mett og lover Herren din Gud for det gode land han har gitt dig,

¹¹Beware lest thou forget Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

¹¹da vokt dig for å glemme Herren din Gud, så du ikke tar vare på hans bud og hans forskrifter og hans lover, som jeg pålegger dig idag,

¹²lest, when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

¹²og vokt dig at du ikke, når du eter og blir mett og bygger gode hus og bor i dem,

¹³and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;

¹³og ditt storfe og ditt småfe økes, og ditt sølv og ditt gull økes, og all din eiendom økes,

¹⁴then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

¹⁴at du da ikke ophøier dig i ditt hjerte, så du glemmer Herren din Gud, som førte dig ut av Egyptens land, av trælehuset,

¹⁵who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness, [wherein were] fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

¹⁵han som ledet dig i den store og forferdelige ørken blandt giftige slanger og skorpioner og på tørre ødemarker, hvor det ikke fantes vann, han som lot vann strømme ut for dig av den hårde klippe,

¹⁶who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not; that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end:

¹⁶han som i ørkenen gav dig manna å ete, en mat som dine fedre ikke kjente, for å ydmyke dig og prøve dig og så til sist gjøre vel imot dig.

¹⁷and [lest] thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth.

¹⁷Si da ikke ved dig selv: Det er min kraft og min sterke hånd som har vunnet mig denne rikdom,

¹⁸But thou shalt remember Jehovah thy God, for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as at this day.

¹⁸men kom Herren din Gud i hu! For det er han som gir dig kraft til å vinne dig rikdom, fordi han vil holde sin pakt som han tilsvor dine fedre, således som det kan sees på denne dag.

¹⁹And it shall be, if thou shalt forget Jehovah thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

¹⁹Men dersom du glemmer Herren din Gud og følger andre guder og dyrker dem og tilbeder dem, da vidner jeg mot eder idag at I visselig skal omkomme.

²⁰As the nations that Jehovah maketh to perish before you, so shall ye perish; because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God.

²⁰Likesom de hedninger Herren lar omkomme for eder, således skal også I omkomme, fordi I ikke hører på Herrens, eders Guds røst.
