¹Thus said Jehovah, Go, and buy a potter's earthen bottle, and [take] of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

¹Så sa Herren: Gå og kjøp en pottemakerkrukke, og ta med dig nogen av folkets eldste og av prestenes eldste,

²and go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee;

²og gå ut til Hinnoms sønns dal, som er utenfor Pottemaker-porten, og rop der ut de ord jeg vil tale til dig!

³and say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

³Og du skal si: Hør Herrens ord, I Judas konger og Jerusalems innbyggere! Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg fører ulykke over dette sted, så det skal ringe for ørene på hver den som hører om det,

⁴Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, that they knew not, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

⁴fordi de forlot mig og ikke aktet dette sted hellig og brente røkelse der for andre guder, som de ikke kjente, hverken de eller deres fedre eller Judas konger, og fylte dette sted med uskyldiges blod

⁵and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt-offerings unto Baal; which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

⁵og bygget offerhauger for Ba'al for å brenne sine sønner i ilden til brennoffer for Ba'al, noget som jeg ikke har påbudt og ikke talt om, og som ikke er opkommet i mitt hjerte.

⁶therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.

⁶Se, derfor skal dager komme, sier Herren, da en ikke mere skal kalle dette sted Tofet eller Hinnoms sønns dal, men Drapsdalen.

⁷And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.

⁷Og på dette sted vil jeg gjøre Judas og Jerusalems råd til intet, og jeg vil la dem falle for deres fienders sverd og for de menns hånd som står dem efter livet; og jeg vil gi deres døde kropper til føde for himmelens fugler og for jordens dyr.

⁸And I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

⁸Og jeg vil gjøre denne by til en forferdelse og en spott; hver den som går forbi, skal forferdes og spotte over alle dens plager.

⁹And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall distress them.

⁹Og jeg vil la dem ete sine sønners og døtres kjøtt, og de skal ete hverandres kjøtt, under den trengsel og angst som deres fiender og de som står dem efter livet, fører over dem.

¹⁰Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

¹⁰Og du skal knuse krukken for de menns øine som går med dig,

¹¹and shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.

¹¹og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Således vil jeg knuse dette folk og denne by, som en knuser et pottemakerkar som ikke kan gjøres i stand igjen; og i Tofet skal de begrave folk fordi det ellers ikke er plass til å begrave.

¹²Thus will I do unto this place, saith Jehovah, and to the inhabitants thereof, even making this city as Topheth:

¹²Således vil jeg gjøre med dette sted, sier Herren, og med dets innbyggere; jeg vil gjøre denne by lik Tofet.

¹³and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings unto other gods.

¹³Og husene i Jerusalem og Judas kongers hus, de urene, skal bli som Tofet, alle de hus på hvis tak de har brent røkelse for hele himmelens hær og utøst drikkoffer for andre guder.

¹⁴Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house, and said to all the people:

¹⁴Og Jeremias kom fra Tofet, dit Herren hadde sendt ham for å profetere, og han stod frem i forgården til Herrens hus og sa til alt folket:

¹⁵Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

¹⁵Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg lar komme over denne by og over alle de byer som hører til den, alt det onde jeg har talt imot den; for de har gjort sin nakke hård, så de ikke hører på mine ord.
