¹Now all the publicans and sinners were drawing near unto him to hear him.

²And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

²Huan, Pharisaite leh laigelhmiten, Hiai miin mi khialte a khawla, a kianguah an a ne chiin, a phun tuaktuak ua.

³And he spake unto them this parable, saying,

³Huchiin, aman a kianguah hiai gentehna a gen a:

⁴What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

⁴Nou lakah kuapeuhin belam ja nei unla, a lak ua khat mangsak le-uchin, gamdai ah sawmkua leh kuate nusiain, amang pen na muh nawn ma siah uh kua ahia zong lou ding?

⁵And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

⁵Huan, na muh nawn un tuh kipaktakin na liangjang uah na pua ua.

⁶And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and his neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.

⁶Huan, in natun tak un, na lawmte uleh na vengte uh na sam khawm ua, a kiang uah, Hon kipahpih un, ka belam mang ka mu nawnta, na chi uh.

⁷I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.

⁷Ka honhilh ahi, huchi bangmahin, mi dik sawm kua leh kua kisik tuanding neiloute tungah sangin mi khial khat kisik tungah vana mi a kipak zo ding uh.

⁸Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it?

⁸Huan, numei kuapeuhin makhai sawm neiin khat mang sak leh, khawnvak dein, in phiatin a muh nawn masiah kua ahia hoihtaka zong lou ding?

⁹And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost.

⁹Huan, a muh nawn intuh, a lawmte leh a vengte a sam khawma, Honkipahpih un, ka makhai mansak ka mu nawn ta, a chi a.

¹⁰Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

¹⁰Ka honhilh ahi, huchi bangmahin, Pathian angelte maah, mi khial khat kisik tungah, kipahna om nak.

¹¹And he said, A certain man had two sons:

¹¹Mi kua hiamin tapa nih a nei a;

¹²and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

¹³And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living.

¹⁴And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want.

¹⁴Huan, a zat bei zoh vek takin, huai gamah kial thupitak a hongtunga; nek ding a hong kitasamta a.

¹⁵And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

¹⁵Huchiin, huai gam mi khat a vabela; huaiin vok an pe dingin a lou lamah a sawla.

¹⁶And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

¹⁶Huan, bangkhat hawng vokin a nekte ua kihihvah a ut mahmaha; kuamahin lah bangmah a pe ngal kei ua.

¹⁷But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger!

¹⁷Huan, amah leh amah hongkiphawk khiak takin, Ka pa kianga kilohte an nek zoh louha nei a tamtam utoh, kei lah hiai ah gilkiala si ding hi mai vengin;

¹⁸I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight:

¹⁸Ka thou dinga, ka pa kiangah ka pai dinga, a kiangah, Pa, vana tungah leh nangmah mitmuhin thil ka hihkhial; na tapaa seh tak ka hitakei hi;

¹⁹I am no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

¹⁹na kianga kiloh khat bangin hon bawl samin, ka chi ding, a chi a.

²⁰And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²⁰Huchiin, a thou a, a pa kiangah a paita a. Huan, gamlapia a omlaiin, a pan a namu a, a lainat mahmaha, a taia, a vapoma a tawp tonton a.

²¹And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son.

²¹Huan, a kiangah a tapain, Pa, vana tungah leh nangmah mitmuhin thil ka hihkhial; na tapaa seh tak ka hita kei, a chi a.

²²But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

²²Himahleh, a pan, a sikhate kiangah, Puan hoihpen honla khepah unla, silh sak un; a khutah zungbuh a khepekah khedap bun sak un;

²³and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry:

²³bawngnou thau tak honla unla; gou un, i ne ding ua, nopbawlin i om ding uh;

²⁴for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

²⁴hiai ka tapa a sia, a honghing nawnta ahi; a manga, i mu nawnta uhi, a chi a. Huchiin kipaktakin a om panta ua.

²⁵Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.

²⁵Huan, a tapa upa jaw lou ah a oma; huan, in a hong tun kuanin bangpeuh tum ging leh lam husa a zata a.

²⁶And he called to him one of the servants, and inquired what these things might be.

²⁶Huchiin, a sikha khat a sama, Tuabang ahia? chiin, a donga.

²⁷And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

²⁷Huan, aman, a kiangah, Na nau a hongtunga, dam takin a muh nawn jiakin na pan bawng nou thau tak a gou, a chi a.

²⁸But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him.

²⁸Huan, a heha, a lut nuamta keia; huchiin, a pa hongpawt khia a, a khema.

²⁹But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

²⁹Himahleh, aman, a pa kiangah, Ngai in, kum hichi zah na na sem inga, na thua lah talek ngei lou inga; ka lawmte toh kipahna ka bawlna dingin kelnou leng non pe ngei ngal keia.

³⁰but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf.

³⁰Himahleh, hiai na tapa kijuakte kianga na sum ne mang vekpa a hongtun takin amah adingin bawngnou thau tak na nagoh sak viala, a chi a, a dawng a.

³¹And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine.

³¹Huan, aman a kiangah, Ka tapa, ka kianga om gige hi china, ka neih tengteng leng nanga hi a.Kipak leh nuamtaka om ding ahi vo oi; hiai na nau a sia; a honghing nawna; a manga, i mu nawnta ahi ngala, a chi a, a chi a.

³²But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive [again]; and [was] lost, and is found.
