¹That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we beheld, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of life

¹Čo bolo od počiatku, čo sme počuli, čo sme videli svojimi očami, na čo sme sa dívali, a čoho sa naše ruky dotýkaly, o slove života -

²(and the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare unto you the life, the eternal [life], which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us);

²a ten život sa zjavil, a videli sme a svedčíme a zvestujeme vám ten večný život, ktorý bol u Otca a zjavil sa nám -,

³that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you also, that ye also may have fellowship with us: yea, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ:

³teda čo sme videli a počuli, zvestujeme vám, aby ste aj vy mali obecenstvo s nami. A naše obecenstvo je s Otcom a jeho Synom, Ježišom Kristom.

⁴and these things we write, that our joy may be made full.

⁴A to vám píšeme nato, aby bola vaša radosť naplnená.

⁵And this is the message which we have heard from him and announce unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

⁵A toto je zvesť, ktorú sme počuli od neho a ktorú vám zvestujeme, že Bôh je svetlo, a že niet v ňom nijakej tmy.

⁶If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

⁶Keď povieme, že máme obecenstvo s ním a chodíme vo tme, luháme a nečiníme pravdy;

⁷but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

⁷ale keď chodíme vo svetle, jako je on vo svetle, máme obecenstvo jeden s druhým, a krv Ježiša Krista, jeho Syna, očisťuje nás od každého hriechu.

⁸If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

⁸Keď povieme, že nemáme hriechu, sami seba zvodíme, a niet v nás pravdy.

⁹If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

⁹Keď vyznávame svoje hriechy, verný je a spravedlivý, aby nám odpustil hriechy a očistil nás od každej neprávosti.

¹⁰If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

¹⁰Keď povieme, že sme nehrešili, robíme ho lhárom, a niet v nás jeho slova.
