1Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
1A tak složiac každú zlosť a každú lesť a pokrytstvá a závisti a všetky pomluvy
2as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation;
2jako priam teraz zrodené nemluvniatka žiadostiví buďte mlieka bezo ľsti, Božieho slova, aby ste ním rástli na spasenie,
3if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious:
3akže ste okúsili, že je Pán dobrotivý,
4unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious,
4ku ktorému prichádzajúc k živému kameňu, síce od ľudí, jako čo by bol nesúci, zavrhnutému, ale u Boha vyvolenému, drahocennému,
5ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
5i sami sa jako živé kamene buduj(e)te, duchovný dom, sväté kňazstvo, obetovať duchovné obeti, príjemné Bohu skrze Ježiša Krista.
6Because it is contained in scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.
6Preto je aj napísané v Písme: Hľa, kladiem na Sione uholný kameň vyvolený, drahocenný, a ten, kto verí naň, nebude zahanbený.
7For you therefore that believe is the preciousness: but for such as disbelieve, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner;
7Tedy vám veriacim česť, ale neposlušným kameň, ktorý zavrhli stavitelia, práve ten sa stal uholnou hlavou a kameňom úrazu a skalou pohoršenia,
8and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
8im, ktorí sa urážajú na slove súc neposlušní, na čo sú aj určení.
9But ye are a elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God's] own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
9Ale vy ste vyvolený rod, kráľovské kňazstvo, svätý národ, ľud, určený byť Božím vlastníctvom, aby ste zvestovali cnosti toho, ktorý vás povolal zo tmy do svojho predivného svetla,
10who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
10ktorí ste kedysi neboli ani ľudom, ale teraz ste ľud Boží; ktorí ste neboli dostali milosrdenstva, ale teraz ste dostali milosrdenstvo.
11Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lust, which war against the soul;
11Milovaní, napomínam ako pohostínov a pútnikov, aby ste sa zdŕžali telesných žiadostí, ktoré vojujú proti duši.
12having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
12Svoje obcovanie medzi pohanmi majúci dobré, aby vo veci, v ktorej vás ohovárajú ako takých, ktorí robia zle, vidiac vaše dobré skutky oslavovali Boha v deň navštívenia.
13Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme;
13A tak buďte poddaní každému ľudskému stvoreniu pre Pána, buďto kráľovi, jako najvyššiemu,
14or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well.
14buďto vladárom, ako ním posielaným na pomstu zle činiacich a na chválu dobre činiacich.
15For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
15Lebo tak je vôľa Božia, aby ste dobre činiac zapchali ústa nevedomosti nerozumných ľudí.
16as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God.
16Jako slobodní, a nie ako takí, ktorí majú slobodu na zásteru zlosti, ale jako sluhovia Boží.
17Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
17Všetkých uctite, bratstvo milujte, Boha sa bojte, kráľa ctite.
18Servants, [be] in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
18Čeľadíni takí, ktorí sa podriaďujú v celej bázni pánom, a to nie len dobrým a prívetivým, ale aj prevráteným;
19For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully.
19lebo to je milosť, ak niekto pre dobré svedomie Božie znáša zármutky trpiac nespravedlivo.
20For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted [for it], ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer [for it], ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
20Lebo veď aká je to sláva, čo hoci i pohlavky trpíte, ak hrešíte?! Ale ak dobre robíte a tak bez viny trpiac znášate, to je milosť u Boha.
21For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:
21Lebo nato ste povolaní, pretože aj Kristus trpel za nás zanechajúc nám príklad, aby ste nasledovali jeho šľapaje,
22who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
22ktorý neučinil hriechu, ani sa nenašla v jeho ústach lesť;
23who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:
23ktorý, keď mu zlorečili, on nezlorečil; keď trpel, nehrozil, ale porúčal tomu, ktorý spravedlivo súdi,
24who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.
24ktorý sám vyniesol naše hriechy na svojom tele na drevo, aby sme odumreli hriechom a žili spravedlivosti, ktorého sinavicami ste uzdravení.
25For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
25Lebo ste boli jako blúdiace ovce, ale teraz ste obrátení k pastierovi a biskupovi svojich duší.
