¹Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

¹Toto mi ukázal Pán Hospodin a hľa, tvoril kobylky na počiatku, keď začala rásť pozdná tráva, a hľa bola to tráva po kráľovom pôkose.

²And it came to pass that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

²A stalo sa, keď požraly bylinu zeme, že som povedal: Pane, Hospodine, odpusti, prosím! Ktože obstojí z Jakoba, lebo je beztak malý.

³Jehovah repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith Jehovah.

³Hospodin ľutoval toho. Nestane sa, riekol Hospodin.

⁴Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, the Lord Jehovah called to content by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land.

⁴Potom mi ukázal Pán Hospodin, a hľa, Pán Hospodin volal pravotiť sa ohňom, a strávil veľkú priepasť a trávil podiel Hospodinov.

⁵Then said I, O Lord Jehovah, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

⁵A povedal som: Pane, Hospodine, prestaň, prosím! Ktože obstojí z Jakoba, lebo je beztak malý.

⁶Jehovah repented concerning this: this also shall not be, saith the Lord Jehovah.

⁶Hospodin ľutoval toho. Nestane sa ani to, riekol Pán Hospodin.

⁷Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand.

⁷Zase mi ukázal, a hľa, Pán stál vedľa múru, postaveného podľa olovnice, a v jeho ruke bola olovnica.

⁸And Jehovah said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more;

⁸A Hospodin mi riekol: Čo vidíš, Ámose? A ja som povedal: Olovnicu. Na to riekol Pán: Hľa, položím olovnicu prostred svojho ľudu Izraela; neprejdem viacej len tak popri ňom.

⁹and the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

⁹Ale spustnú výšiny Izákove, a svätyne Izraelove budú spustošené, a povstanem na dom Jeroboámov s mečom.

¹⁰Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

¹⁰Vtedy poslal Amaziáš, kňaz Bét-ela, k Jeroboámovi, izraelskému kráľovi, a povedal: Ámos sa sprisahal proti tebe prostred domu Izraelovho; zem už nemôže zniesť všetky tie jeho slová.

¹¹For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

¹¹Lebo takto hovorí Ámos. Jeroboám zomrie mečom, a Izrael bude istotne prestehovaný so svojej zeme.

¹²Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thou away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

¹²A Amaziáš povedal Ámosovi: Vidiaci, iď, uteč do zeme Júdovej a jedz tam chlieb a tam prorokuj!

¹³but prophesy not again any more at Beth-el; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house.

¹³Ale v Bét-ele neprorokuj viacej, lebo je on svätyňou kráľovou a je domom kráľovstva.

¹⁴Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a dresser of sycomore-trees:

¹⁴Ale Ámos odpovedal Amaziášovi a riekol: Ja nie som prorok ani nie som synom proroka, ale som pastier kráv a človek, ktorý oberá plané fíky.

¹⁵and Jehovah took me from following the flock, and Jehovah said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

¹⁵Ale Hospodin ma vzal zpoza stáda a povedal mi Hospodin: Idi, prorokuj môjmu ľudu Izraelovi.

¹⁶Now therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not [thy word] against the house of Isaac;

¹⁶Preto teraz počuj slovo Hospodinovo: Ty hovoríš: Neprorokuj proti Izraelovi a nekvapkaj slovami na dom Izákov.

¹⁷therefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou thyself shalt die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

¹⁷Preto takto hovorí Hospodin: Tvoja žena bude smilniť v meste, a tvoji synovia a tvoje dcéry padnú mečom, tvoja zem bude rozdelená merným lanom, a ty sám zomrieš na nečistej zemi, a Izrael bude istotne prestehovaný so svojej zeme.
