¹Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.

¹Hľa, posielam svojho anjela, a upraví cestu pred mojou tvárou. Prijde náhle do svojho chrámu Pán, ktorého vy hľadáte, a anjel smluvy, po ktorom túžite, hľa, prijde, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov.

²But who can abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap:

²Ale kto znesie deň jeho príchodu, a kto obstojí, keď sa ukáže?! Lebo on je ako prepaľujúci oheň a jako lúh práčov.

³and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer unto Jehovah offerings in righteousness.

³A bude sedieť prepaľujúc a prečisťujúc striebro, a tak prečistí synov Léviho a očistí ich ako zlato a jako striebro, a budú Hospodinovi, donášajúc obetný dar obilný v spravedlivosti.

⁴Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto Jehovah, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years.

⁴Vtedy bude príjemný Hospodinovi obetný dar obilný Júdu a Jeruzalema jako za dní drievneho veku a jako za dávnych rokov.

⁵And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the sojourner [from his right], and fear not me, saith Jehovah of hosts.

⁵A priblížim sa k vám na súd a budem rýchlym svedkom proti čarodejníkom, proti cudzoložníkom a proti krivoprísažníkom i proti tým, ktorí utiskujú čo do mzdy nájomníka, vdovu a sirotu a krivdia pohostínovi a neboja sa ma, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov.

⁶For I, Jehovah, change not; therefore ye, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

⁶Lebo ja Hospodin sa nemením, preto ste vy, synovia Jakobovi, ešte nevyhynuli.

⁷From the days of your fathers ye have turned aside from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts. But ye say, Wherein shall we return?

⁷Odo dní svojich otcov ste sa odchyľovali od mojich ustanovení a neostríhali ste. Navráťte sa ku mne, a navrátim sa k vám, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov. Ale hovoríte: V čom sa máme navrátiť?

⁸Will a man rob God? yet ye rob me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

⁸Či azda má človek okrádať Boha? Lebo vy okrádate mňa a hovoríte: V čom ťa okrádame? V desiatku a v obeti pozdvihnutia!

⁹Ye are cursed with the curse; for ye rob me, even this whole nation.

⁹Zlorečení ste zlorečením a mňa jednako okrádate, celý národ, čo vás je.

¹⁰Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough [to receive it].

¹⁰Doneste celý desiatok do domu pokladu, aby bola potrava v mojom dome, a nože ma potom zkúste v tom, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov, či vám nepootváram nebeských prieduchov a nevylejem vám požehnania až prehojne.

¹¹And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before the time in the field, saith Jehovah of hosts.

¹¹A pokarhám vám to, čo požiera, a nebude vám kaziť plodu zeme ani vám pred časom nepomece vinič na poli, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov.

¹²And all nations shall call you happy; for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith Jehovah of hosts.

¹²A budú vás blahoslaviť všetky národy, lebo vy budete rozkošnou zemou ľúbou, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov.

¹³Your words have been stout against me, saith Jehovah. Yet ye say, What have we spoken against thee?

¹³Drzé sú vaše slová proti mne, hovorí Hospodin a hovoríte: Čože hovoríme proti tebe?

¹⁴Ye have said, It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before Jehovah of hosts?

¹⁴Hovoríte: Márna vec je slúžiť Bohu, a jaký vraj z toho zisk, keď budeme strážiť jeho stráž? Alebo keď budeme chodiť čierno pred Hospodinom Zástupov?

¹⁵And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are built up; yea, they tempt God, and escape.

¹⁵Preto teraz my blahoslavíme spurných, aj sa budujú tí, ktorí páchajú bezbožnosť, aj pokúšajú Boha a vše uniknú.

¹⁶Then they that feared Jehovah spake one with another; and Jehovah hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared Jehovah, and that thought upon his name.

¹⁶Vtedy sa shovárali medzi sebou tí, ktorí sa báli Hospodina, druh s druhom, a Hospodin pozoroval ušima a počul, a bola písaná pred ním pamätná kniha pre tých, ktorí sa boja Hospodina a myslia na jeho meno.

¹⁷And they shall be mine, saith Jehovah of hosts, [even] mine own possession, in the day that I make; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

¹⁷A budú moji, hovorí Hospodin Zástupov, na deň, ktorý ja učiním, zvláštnym vlastníctvom, a zľutujem sa nad nimi, jako sa zľutuje človek nad svojím synom, ktorý mu slúži.

¹⁸Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

¹⁸Vtedy sa navrátite a budete vidieť rozdiel medzi spravedlivým a bezbožným, medzi tým, kto slúži Bohu, a tým, kto mu neslúži.
