¹And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying,

¹V tých dňoch prišiel Ján Krstiteľ a kázal na Judskej púšti

²Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

²a hovoril: Čiňte pokánie! Lebo sa priblížilo nebeské kráľovstvo.

³For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.

³Lebo toto je ten predpovedaný skrze proroka Izaiáša, ktorý povedal: Hlas volajúceho na púšti: Prihotovte cestu Pánovu, čiňte priame jeho chodníky!

⁴Now John himself had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

⁴A ten istý Ján mal svoj odev z veľblúdej srsti a kožený opasok okolo svojich bedier, a jeho pokrmom boly kobylky a poľný med.

⁵Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about the Jordan;

⁵Vtedy vychádzal k nemu Jeruzalem i celé Judsko a celé okolie jordánske,

⁶and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁶a krstení boli od neho v rieke Jordáne vyznávajúc svoje hriechy.

⁷But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁷A keď videl i mnoho farizejov a sadúceov, že idú k jeho krstu, povedal im: Vreteničie plemä, ktože vám ukázal, aby ste utiekli budúcemu hnevu?

⁸Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:

⁸Neste tedy ovocie, hodné pokánia,

⁹and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

⁹a nedomnievajte sa, že môžete v sebe hovoriť: Veď otca máme Abraháma! Lebo vám hovorím, že Bôh môže z týchto kameňov vzbudiť Abrahámovi deti.

¹⁰And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

¹⁰A už aj je sekera priložená na koreň stromov; každý tedy strom, ktorý nenesie dobrého ovocia, sa vytína a hádže na oheň.

¹¹I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire:

¹¹Ja vás krstím vodou na pokánie; ale ten ktorý prichádza po mne, je mocnejší ako ja, ktorého obuv nosiť nie som hoden - ten vás bude krstiť Svätým Duchom a ohňom,

¹²whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

¹²ktorý má svoju vejačku vo svojej ruke a prečistí svoje humno a shromaždí svoju pšenicu do sypárne, ale plevy bude páliť neuhasiteľným ohňom.

¹³Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

¹³Vtedy prišiel Ježiš od Galilee k Jordánu, k Jánovi, aby bol pokrstený od neho.

¹⁴But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

¹⁴Ale Ján mu veľmi bránil a hovoril: Mne je treba, aby som bol pokrstený od teba, a ty ideš ku mne?

¹⁵But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.

¹⁵Ale Ježiš odpovedal a riekol mu: Nechaj teraz, lebo tak nám sluší, aby sme naplnili všetku spravedlivosť. Vtedy ho nechal.

¹⁶And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;

¹⁶A keď bol Ježiš pokrstený, hneď vystúpil z vody, a hľa, otvorily sa mu nebesia, a videl Ducha Božieho, ktorý sostupoval akoby holubica a prichádzal na neho.

¹⁷and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

¹⁷A hľa, bolo počuť hlas z nebies, ktorý hovoril: Toto je ten môj milovaný Syn, v ktorom sa mi zaľúbilo.
