¹And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

²And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

²அந்த ஸ்திரீ கர்ப்பவதியாகி, ஒரு ஆண்பிள்ளையைப் பெற்று, அது அழகுள்ளது என்று கண்டு, அதை மூன்று மாதம் ஒளித்துவைத்தாள்.

³And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

³அவள் அதை அப்புறம் ஒளித்துவைக்கக்கூடாமல், ஒரு நாணற்பெட்டியை எடுத்து, அதற்குப் பிசினும் கீலும் பூசி, அதிலே பிள்ளையை வளர்த்தி, நதியோரமாய் நாணலுக்குள்ளே வைத்தாள்.

⁴And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

⁴அதற்கு என்ன சம்பவிக்கும் என்பதை அறியும்படி அதின் தமக்கை தூரத்திலே நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தாள்.

⁵And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river-side; and she saw the ark among the flags, and sent her handmaid to fetch it.

⁵அப்பொழுது பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தி நதியில் ஸ்நானம்பண்ண வந்தாள்; அவளுடைய தாதிகள் நதியோரத்தில் உலாவினார்கள்; அவள் நாணலுக்குள்ளே இருக்கிற பெட்டியைக் கண்டு, தன் தாதியை அனுப்பி அதைக் கொண்டுவரும்படி செய்தாள்.

⁶And she opened it, and saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

⁶அதைத் திறந்தபோது பிள்ளையைக்கண்டாள்; பிள்ளை அழுதது; அவள் அதின்மேல் இரக்கமுற்று, இது எபிரெயர் பிள்ளைகளில் ஒன்று என்றாள்.

⁷Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

⁷அப்பொழுது அதின் தமக்கை பார்வோனின் குமாரத்தியை நோக்கி: உமக்கு இந்தப் பிள்ளையை வளர்க்கும்படி எபிரெய ஸ்திரீகளில் பால்கொடுக்கிற ஒருத்தியை நான் போய் உம்மிடத்தில் அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வரட்டுமா என்றாள்.

⁸And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maiden went and called the child's mother.

⁸அதற்குப் பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தி: அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவா என்றாள். இந்தப் பெண் போய்ப் பிள்ளையின் தாயையே அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்தாள்.

⁹And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

⁹பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தி அவளை நோக்கி: நீ இந்தப் பிள்ளையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அதை எனக்கு வளர்த்திடு, நான் உனக்குச் சம்பளம் கொடுக்கிறேன் என்றாள். அந்த ஸ்திரீ பிள்ளையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அதை வளர்த்தாள்.

¹⁰And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and said, Because I drew him out of the water.

¹⁰பிள்ளை பெரிதானபோது, அவள் அதைப் பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தியினிடத்தில் கொண்டுபோய் விட்டாள். அவளுக்கு அவன் குமாரனானான். அவள்: அவனை ஜலத்தினின்று எடுத்தேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு மோசே என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

¹¹And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren.

¹¹மோசே பெரியவனான காலத்தில், அவன் தன் சகோதரரிடத்தில் போய், அவர்கள் சுமைசுமக்கிறதைப் பார்த்து, தன் சகோதரராகிய எபிரெயரில் ஒருவனை ஒரு எகிப்தியன் அடிக்கிறதைக் கண்டு,

¹²And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

¹²அங்கும் இங்கும் பார்த்து, ஒருவரும் இல்லை என்று அறிந்து, எகிப்தியனை வெட்டி, அவனை மணலிலே புதைத்துப்போட்டான்.

¹³And he went out the second day, and, behold, two men of the Hebrews were striving together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

¹³அவன் மறுநாளிலும் வெளியே போனபோது, எபிரெய மனுஷர் இருவர் சண்டைபண்ணிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவன் அநியாயஞ்செய்கிறவனை நோக்கி: நீ உன் தோழனை அடிக்கிறது என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.

¹⁴And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? Thinkest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely the thing is known.

¹⁴அதற்கு அவன்: எங்கள்மேல் உன்னை அதிகாரியாகவும் நியாயாதிபதியாகவும் ஏற்படுத்தினவன் யார்? நீ எகிப்தியனைக் கொன்றுபோட்டதுபோல, என்னையும் கொன்றுபோட நினைக்கிறாயோ என்றான். அப்பொழுது மோசே காரியம் நிச்சயமாக வெளிப்பட்டது என்று பயந்தான்.

¹⁵Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

¹⁵பார்வோன் அந்தக் காரியத்தைக் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, மோசேயைக் கொலைசெய்ய வகைதேடினான். மோசே பார்வோனிடத்தினின்று தப்பியோடி, மீதியான் தேசத்தில் போய்த் தங்கி, ஒரு துரவண்டையிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்.

¹⁶Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

¹⁶மீதியான் தேசத்து ஆசாரியனுக்கு ஏழு குமாரத்திகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டும்படிக்கு அங்கே வந்து, தண்ணீர் மொண்டு, தொட்டிகளை நிரப்பினார்கள்.

¹⁷And the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

¹⁷அப்பொழுது மேய்ப்பர்கள் வந்து, அவர்களைத் துரத்தினார்கள்; மோசே எழுந்திருந்து, அவர்களுக்குத் துணை நின்று, அவர்களுடைய ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டினான்.

¹⁸And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to-day?

¹⁸அவர்கள் தங்கள் தகப்பனாகிய ரெகுவேலிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, அவன்: நீங்கள் இன்று இத்தனை சீக்கிரமாய் வந்தது என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.

¹⁹And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.

¹⁹அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எகிப்தியன் ஒருவன் மேய்ப்பரின் கைகளுக்கு எங்களைத் தப்புவித்து, எங்களுக்குத் தண்ணீர் மொண்டு கொடுத்து, ஆடுகளுக்கும் தண்ணீர் காட்டினான் என்றார்கள்.

²⁰And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that ye have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.

²⁰அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் குமாரத்திகளைப் பார்த்து, அவன் எங்கே? அந்த மனிதனை நீங்கள் விட்டுவந்தது என்ன? போஜனம்பண்ணும்படிக்கு அவனை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்.

²¹And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

²¹மோசே அந்த மனிதனிடத்தில் தங்கியிருக்கச் சம்மதித்தான். அவன் சிப்போராள் என்னும் தன் குமாரத்தியை மோசேக்குக் கொடுத்தான்.

²²And she bare a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.

²²அவள் ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள். நான் அந்நிய தேசத்தில் பரதேசியாய் இருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு கெர்சோம் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

²³And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

²³சிலகாலம் சென்றபின், எகிப்தின் ராஜா மரித்தான். இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அடிமைத்தனத்தினால் தவித்து, முறையிட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து முறையிடும் சத்தம் தேவசந்நிதியில் எட்டினது.

²⁴And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

²⁴தேவன் அவர்கள் பெருமூச்சைக்கேட்டு, தாம் ஆபிரகாமோடும் ஈசாக்கோடும் யாக்கோபோடும் செய்த உடன்படிக்கையை நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்.

²⁵And God saw the children of Israel, and God took knowledge [of them].

²⁵தேவன் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரைக் கண்ணோக்கினார்; தேவன் அவர்களை நினைத்தருளினார்.
