¹And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and she said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

¹ராகேல் தான் யாக்கோபுக்குப் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெறாததைக்கண்டு, தன் சகோதரியின்மேல் பொறாமைகொண்டு, யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: எனக்குப் பிள்ளைகொடும், இல்லாவிட்டால் நான் சாகிறேன் என்றாள்.

²And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

²அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு ராகேலின் மேல் கோபங்கொண்டு: தேவனல்லோ உன் கர்ப்பத்தை அடைத்திருக்கிறார், நான் தேவனா? என்றான்.

³And she said, Behold, my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; that she may bear upon my knees, and I also may obtain children by her.

³அப்பொழுது அவள்: இதோ, என் வேலைக்காரியாகிய பில்காள் இருக்கிறாளே; அவள் என் மடிக்குப் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெறவும், அவளாலாகிலும் என் வீடு கட்டப்படவும் அவளிடத்தில் சேரும் என்று சொல்லி,

⁴And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.

⁴அவனுக்குத் தன் வேலைக்காரியாகிய பில்காளை மனைவியாகக் கொடுத்தாள்; அப்படியே யாக்கோபு அவளைச் சேர்ந்தான்.

⁵And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

⁵பில்காள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி, யாக்கோபுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

⁶And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.

⁶அப்பொழுது ராகேல்: தேவன் என் வழக்கைத் தீர்த்து, என் சத்தத்தையும் கேட்டு, எனக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைக் கொடுத்தார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்குத் தாண் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

⁷And Bilhah Rachel's handmaid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.

⁷மறுபடியும் ராகேலின் வேலைக்காரியாகிய பில்காள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி, யாக்கோபுக்கு இரண்டாம் குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

⁸And Rachel said, With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.

⁸அப்பொழுது ராகேல்: நான் மகா போராட்டமாய் என் சகோதரியோடே போராடி மேற்கொண்டேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு நப்தலி என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

⁹When Leah saw that she had left off bearing, she took Zilpah her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob to wife.

⁹லேயாள் தான் பிள்ளைபெறுகிறது நின்றுபோனதைக் கண்டு, தன் வேலைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாளை அழைத்து, அவளை யாக்கோபுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுத்தாள்.

¹⁰And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bare Jacob a son.

¹⁰லேயாளின் வேலைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாள் யாக்கோபுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

¹¹And Leah said, Fortunate! and she called his name Gad.

¹¹அப்பொழுது லேயாள்: ஏராளமாகிறதென்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்குக் காத் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

¹²And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bare Jacob a second son.

¹²பின்பு லேயாளின் வேலைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாள் யாக்கோபுக்கு இரண்டாம் குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

¹³And Leah said, Happy am I! for the daughters will call me happy: and she called his name Asher.

¹³அப்பொழுது லேயாள்: நான் பாக்கியவதி, ஸ்திரீகள் என்னைப் பாக்கியவதி என்பார்கள் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு ஆசேர் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

¹⁴And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.

¹⁴கோதுமை அறுப்பு நாட்களிலே ரூபன் வயல்வெளியிலே போய், தூதாயீம் கனிகளைக் கண்டெடுத்து, அவைகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து தன் தாயாகிய லேயாளிடத்தில் கொடுத்தான். அப்பொழுது ராகேல் லேயாளை நோக்கி: உன் குமாரனுடைய தூதாயீம் கனியில் எனக்குக் கொஞ்சம் தா என்றாள்.

¹⁵And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken away my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to-night for thy son's mandrakes.

¹⁵அதற்கு அவள்: நீ என் புருஷனை எடுத்துக்கொண்டது அற்பகாரியமா? என் குமாரனுடைய தூதாயீம் கனிகளையும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டுமோ என்றாள்; அதற்கு ராகேல்: உன் குமாரனுடைய தூதாயீம் கனிகளுக்கு ஈடாக இன்று இரவு அவர் உன்னோடே சயனிக்கட்டும் என்றாள்.

¹⁶And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for I have surely hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

¹⁶சாயங்காலத்தில் யாக்கோபு வெளியிலிருந்து வருகையில் லேயாள் புறப்பட்டு அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோய்: என் குமாரனுடைய தூதாயீம் கனிகளால் உம்மைக் கொண்டேன்; ஆகையால், நீர் என்னிடத்தில் வரவேண்டும் என்றாள்; அவன் அன்று இரவு அவளோடே சயனித்தான்.

¹⁷And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob a fifth son.

¹⁷தேவன் லேயாளுக்குச் செவிகொடுத்தார். அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி யாக்கோபுக்கு ஐந்தாம் குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

¹⁸And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.

¹⁸அப்பொழுது லேயாள்: நான் என் வேலைக்காரியை என் புருஷனுக்குக் கொடுத்த பலனைத் தேவன் எனக்குத் தந்தார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு இசக்கார் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

¹⁹And Leah conceived again, and bare a sixth son to Jacob.

¹⁹அப்புறம் லேயாள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி யாக்கோபுக்கு ஆறாம் குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

²⁰And Leah said, God hath endowed me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.

²⁰அப்பொழுது லேயாள்: தேவன் எனக்கு நல்ல ஈவைத் தந்தார்; என் புருஷனுக்கு நான் ஆறு குமாரரைப் பெற்றபடியால், இப்பொழுது அவர் என்னுடனே வாசம்பண்ணுவார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்குச் செபுலோன் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

²¹And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

²¹பின்பு அவள் ஒரு குமாரத்தியையும் பெற்று, அவளுக்குத் தீனாள் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

²²And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

²²தேவன் ராகேலை நினைத்தருளினார்; அவளுக்குத் தேவன் செவிகொடுத்து, அவள் கர்ப்பந்தரிக்கும்படி செய்தார்.

²³And she conceived, and bare a son: and said, God hath taken away my reproach:

²³அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: தேவன் என் நிந்தையை நீக்கிவிட்டார் என்றும்,

²⁴and she called his name Joseph, saying, Jehovah add to me another son.

²⁴இன்னும் ஒரு குமாரனைக் கர்த்தர் எனக்குத் தருவார் என்றும் சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு யோசேப்பு என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

²⁵And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

²⁵ராகேல் யோசேப்பைப் பெற்றபின், யாக்கோபு லாபானை நோக்கி: நான் என் ஸ்தானத்திற்கும் என் தேசத்திற்கும் போக என்னை அனுப்பிவிடும்.

²⁶Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service wherewith I have served thee.

²⁶நான் உமக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்து சம்பாதித்த என் மனைவிகளையும் என் பிள்ளைகளையும் எனக்குத் தாரும்; நான் போவேன், நான் உம்மிடத்தில் சேவித்த சேவகத்தை நீர் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர் என்றான்.

²⁷And Laban said unto him, If now I have found favor in thine eyes, [tarry]: [for] I have divined that Jehovah hath blessed me for thy sake.

²⁷அப்பொழுது லாபான்: உன் கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயவு கிடைத்ததேயானால் நீ இரு; உன் நிமித்தம் கர்த்தர் என்னை ஆசீர்வதித்தார் என்று குறிப்பினால் அறிந்தேன்.

²⁸And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.

²⁸உன் சம்பளம் இன்னதென்று எனக்குச் சொல், நான் அதைத் தருவேன் என்றான்.

²⁹And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle have fared with me.

²⁹அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மைச் சேவித்த விதமும், உம்முடைய மந்தை என்னிடத்தில் இருந்த விதமும் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்.

³⁰For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it hath increased unto a multitude; and Jehovah hath blessed thee whithersoever I turned: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?

³⁰நான் வருமுன்னே உமக்கு இருந்தது கொஞ்சம்; நான் வந்தபின் கர்த்தர் உம்மை ஆசீர்வதித்ததினால் அது மிகவும் பெருகியிருக்கிறது; இனி நான் என் குடும்பத்துக்குச் சம்பாத்தியம்பண்ணுவது எப்பொழுது என்றான்.

³¹And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me aught: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed thy flock and keep it.

³¹அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உனக்கு என்ன தரவேண்டும் என்றான்; யாக்கோபு: நீர் எனக்கு ஒன்றும் தரவேண்டியதில்லை; நான் சொல்லுகிறபடி நீர் எனக்குச் செய்தால், உம்முடைய மந்தையைத் திரும்ப மேய்த்துக் காப்பேன்.

³²I will pass through all thy flock to-day, removing from thence every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and [of such] shall be my hire.

³²நான் இன்றைக்குப்போய், உம்முடைய மந்தைகளையெல்லாம் பார்வையிட்டு, அவைகளில் புள்ளியும் வரியும் கறுப்புமுள்ள செம்மறியாடுகளையும், வரியும் புள்ளியுமுள்ள வெள்ளாடுகளையும் பிரித்துவிடுகிறேன்; அப்படிப்பட்டவை இனி எனக்குச் சம்பளமாயிருக்கட்டும்.

³³So shall my righteousness answer for me hereafter, when thou shalt come concerning my hire that is before thee: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that [if found] with me, shall be counted stolen.

³³அப்படியே இனிமேல் என் சம்பளமாகிய இவற்றை நீர் பார்வையிடும்போது, என் நீதி விளங்கும்; புள்ளியும் வரியுமில்லாத வெள்ளாடுகளும், கறுப்பான செம்மறியாடுகளும் என் வசத்தில் இருந்தால், அவையெல்லாம் என்னால் திருடிக்கொள்ளப்பட்டவைகளாய் எண்ணப்படட்டும் என்றான்.

³⁴And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.

³⁴அதற்கு லாபான்: நீ சொன்னபடியே ஆகட்டும் என்று சொல்லி,

³⁵And he removed that day the he-goats that were ringstreaked and spotted, and all the she-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons;

³⁵அந்நாளிலே கலப்பு நிறமும் வரியுமுள்ள வெள்ளாட்டுக் கடாக்களையும், புள்ளியும் வரியுமுள்ள வெள்ளாடுகள் யாவையும், சற்று வெண்மையும் கருமையுமுள்ள செம்மறியாடுகள் யாவையும் பிரித்து, தன் குமாரரிடத்தில் ஒப்புவித்து,

³⁶and he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.

³⁶தனக்கும் யாக்கோபுக்கும் இடையிலே மூன்றுநாள் பிரயாணதூரத்தில் இருக்கும்படி வைத்தான். லாபானுடைய மற்ற ஆடுகளை யாக்கோபு மேய்த்தான்.

³⁷And Jacob took him rods of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane-tree. And peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

³⁷பின்பு யாக்கோபு பச்சையாயிருக்கிற புன்னை, வாதுமை, அர்மோன் என்னும் மரங்களின் கொப்புகளை வெட்டி, இடையிடையே வெண்மை தோன்றும்படி, பட்டையை உரித்து,

³⁸And he set the rods which he had peeled over against the flocks in the gutters in the watering-troughs where the flocks came to drink; and they conceived when they came to drink.

³⁸தான் உரித்த கொப்புகளை ஆடுகள் தண்ணீர் குடிக்க வரும் கால்வாய்களிலும் தொட்டிகளிலும் ஆடுகளுக்கு எதிராகப் போட்டுவைப்பான்; ஆடுகள் தண்ணீர் குடிக்க வரும்போது பொலிவதுண்டு.

³⁹And the flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks brought forth ringstreaked, speckled, and spotted.

³⁹ஆடுகள் அந்தக் கொப்புகளுக்கு முன்பாகப் பொலிந்தபடியால், அவைகள் கலப்பு நிறமுள்ளதும் புள்ளியுள்ளதும் வரியுள்ளதுமான குட்டிகளைப் போட்டது.

⁴⁰And Jacob separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstreaked and all the black in the flock of Laban: and he put his own droves apart, and put them not unto Laban's flock.

⁴⁰அந்த ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளை யாக்கோபு பிரித்துக்கொண்டு, ஆடுகளை லாபானுடைய மந்தையிலிருக்கும் கலப்பு நிறமானவைகளுக்கும் கறுப்பானவைகளெல்லாவற்றிற்கும் எதிராக நிறுத்தி, தன் ஆடுகளை லாபானுடைய மந்தையோடே சேர்க்காமல், தனிப்புறமாக வைத்துக்கொள்வான்.

⁴¹And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger of the flock did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods;

⁴¹பலத்த ஆடுகள் பொலியும்போது, அந்தக் கொப்புகளுக்கு எதிரே பொலியும்படி யாக்கோபு அவைகளை அந்த ஆடுகளின் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் கால்வாய்களிலே போட்டுவைப்பான்.

⁴²but when the flock were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.

⁴²பலவீனமான ஆடுகள் பொலியும்போது, அவைகளைப் போடாமலிருப்பான்; இதனால் பலவீனமானவைகள் லாபானையும், பலமுள்ளவைகள் யாக்கோபையும் சேர்ந்தன.

⁴³And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maid-servants and men-servants, and camels and asses.

⁴³இவ்விதமாய் அந்தப் புருஷன் மிகவும் விருத்தியடைந்து, திரளான ஆடுகளும், வேலைக்காரிகளும், வேலைக்காரரும், ஒட்டகங்களும், கழுதைகளும் உடையவனானான்.
