¹And it came to pass after these things, that one said to Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

²And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.

³And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

³யாக்கோபு யோசேப்பை நோக்கி: சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன் கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள லூஸ் என்னும் இடத்தில் எனக்குத் தரிசனமாகி, என்னை ஆசீர்வதித்து:

⁴and said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a company of peoples, and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.

⁴நான் உன்னைப் பலுகவும் பெருகவும் பண்ணி, உன்னைப் பல ஜனக்கூட்டமாக்கி, உனக்குப் பின்வரும் உன் சந்ததிக்கு இந்தத் தேசத்தை நித்திய சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுப்பேன் என்று என்னோடே சொன்னார்.

⁵And now thy two sons, who were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh, even as Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine.

⁵நான் உன்னிடத்தில் எகிப்துக்கு வருமுன்னே உனக்கு எகிப்துதேசத்தில் பிறந்த உன் இரண்டு குமாரரும் என்னுடைய குமாரர்; ரூபன் சிமியோன் என்பவர்களைப்போல, எப்பிராயீமும் மனாசேயும் என்னுடையவர்கள்.

⁶And thy issue, that thou begettest after them, shall be thine; they shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.

⁶இவர்களுக்குப்பின், நீ பெறும் பிள்ளைகள் உன்னுடையவர்கள்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் தங்கள் சகோதரருடைய பேரால் அழைக்கப்பட்டு அவர்களுக்குரிய சுதந்தரத்தில் பங்குபெறுவார்கள்.

⁷And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem).

⁷நான் பதானை விட்டு வருகையில், கானான்தேசத்தில் எப்பிராத்தாவுக்குக் கொஞ்சம் தூரம் இருக்கும்போது, வழியிலே ராகேல் என்னண்டையில் மரணமடைந்தாள்; அவளை அங்கே பெத்லகேம் என்னும் எப்பிராத்தா ஊருக்குப் போகிற வழியிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினேன் என்றான்.

⁸And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these?

⁸இஸ்ரவேல் யோசேப்பின் குமாரரைப் பார்த்து: இவர்கள் யார் என்று கேட்டான்.

⁹And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me here. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.

⁹யோசேப்பு தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: இவர்கள் இவ்விடத்தில் தேவன் எனக்கு அருளின குமாரர் என்றான். அப்பொழுது அவன்: நான் அவர்களை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி அவர்களை என் கிட்டக்கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

¹⁰Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.

¹⁰முதிர்வயதினால் இஸ்ரவேலின் கண்கள் மங்கலாயிருந்தபடியால், அவன் நன்றாய்ப் பார்க்கக்கூடாதிருந்தது. அவர்களை அவனண்டையிலே சேரப்பண்ணினான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் அவர்களை முத்தஞ்செய்து அணைத்துக்கொண்டான்.

¹¹And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath let me see thy seed also.

¹²And Joseph brought them out from between his knees; and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.

¹³And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him.

¹³பின்பு, யோசேப்பு அவ்விருவரையும் கொண்டுவந்து, எப்பிராயீமைத் தன் வலது கையினாலே இஸ்ரவேலின் இடது கைக்கு நேராகவும், மனாசேயைத் தன் இடது கையினாலே இஸ்ரவேலின் வலது கைக்கு நேராகவும் விட்டான்.

¹⁴And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the first-born.

¹⁴அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல், மனமறிய, தன் வலது கையை நீட்டி, இளையவனாகிய எப்பிராயீமுடைய தலையின்மேலும், மனாசே மூத்தவனாயிருந்தும், தன் இடது கையை மனாசேயுடைய தலையின்மேலும் வைத்தான்.

¹⁵And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath fed me all my life long unto this day,

¹⁵அவன் யோசேப்பை ஆசீர்வதித்து: என் பிதாக்களாகிய ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் வழிபட்டு வணங்கிய தேவனும், நான் பிறந்த நாள்முதல் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் என்னை ஆதரித்துவந்த தேவனும்,

¹⁶the angel who hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

¹⁶எல்லாத் தீமைக்கும் நீங்கலாக்கி என்னை மீட்ட தூதனுமானவர் இந்தப் பிள்ளைகளை ஆசீர்வதிப்பாராக, என் பேரும் என் பிதாக்களாகிய ஆபிரகாம் ஈசாக்கு என்பவர்களின் பேரும் இவர்களுக்கு இடப்படக்கடவது; பூமியில் இவர்கள் மிகுதியாய்ப் பெருகக்கடவர்கள் என்றான்.

¹⁷And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.

¹⁷தகப்பன் தன் வலதுகையை எப்பிராயீமுடைய தலையின்மேல் வைத்ததை யோசேப்பு கண்டு, அது தனக்குப் பிரியமில்லாதபடியால், எப்பிராயீமுடைய தலையின்மேல் இருந்த தன் தகப்பனுடைய கையை மனாசேயினுடைய தலையின்மேல் வைக்கும்படிக்கு எடுத்து:

¹⁸And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father; for this is the first-born; put thy right hand upon his head.

¹⁸என் தகப்பனே, அப்படியல்ல, இவன் மூத்தவன், இவனுடைய தலையின் மேல் உம்முடைய வலதுகையை வைக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

¹⁹And his father refused, and said, I know [it], my son, I know [it]. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

¹⁹அவன் தகப்பனோ தடுத்து: அது எனக்குத் தெரியும், என் மகனே, எனக்குத் தெரியும்; இவனும் ஒரு ஜனக்கூட்டமாவான், இவனும் பெருகுவான்; இவனுடைய தம்பியோ இவனிலும் அதிகமாய்ப் பெருகுவான்; அவனுடைய சந்ததியார் திரளான ஜனங்களாவார்கள் என்றான்.

²⁰And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee will Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

²⁰இவ்விதமாக அவன் அன்றைத்தினம் அவர்களை ஆசீர்வதித்து: தேவன் உன்னை எப்பிராயீமைப்போலவும் மனாசேயைப்போலவும் ஆக்குவாராக என்று இஸ்ரவேலர் உன்னை முன்னிட்டு வாழ்த்துவார்கள் என்று சொல்லி, எப்பிராயீமை மனாசேக்கு முன்னே வைத்தான்.

²¹And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God will be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

²¹பின்பு, இஸ்ரவேல் யோசேப்பை நோக்கி: இதோ, நான் மரணமடையப்போகிறேன்; தேவன் உங்களோடே இருப்பார்; அவர் உங்கள் பிதாக்களின் தேசத்துக்கு உங்களைத் திரும்பவும் போகப்பண்ணுவார் என்றும்,

²²Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.

²²உன் சகோதரருக்கு கொடுத்ததைப்பார்க்கிலும், நான் என் பட்டயத்தாலும், என் வில்லினாலும், எமோரியர் கையிலிருந்து சம்பாதித்த ஒரு நிலத்தை உனக்கு அதிகமான பங்காகக் கொடுத்தேன் என்றும் சொன்னான்.
