¹Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place for gold which they refine.

¹வெள்ளிக்கு விளைவிடம் உண்டு, பொன்னுக்குப் புடமிடும் ஸ்தலமுமுண்டு.

²Iron is taken out of the earth, And copper is molten out of the stone.

²இரும்பு மண்ணிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்படும்; செம்பு கற்களில் உருக்கி எடுக்கப்படும்.

³[Man] setteth an end to darkness, And searcheth out, to the furthest bound, The stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

³மனிதன் அந்தகாரத்திலும் மரண இருளிலும் இருக்கிற கற்களைக் கடையாந்தரமட்டும் ஆராய்ந்து தேடி, இருளுக்கும் அங்கே முடிவுண்டாக்குகிறான்.

⁴He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; They are forgotten of the foot; They hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.

⁴கடக்கக்கூடாததும் நிலையாததுமான ஆறு எழும்பினாலும், உழைப்பாளியானவன் அதை மனுஷரால் வற்றிப்போகப்பண்ணிச் செல்லுகிறான்.

⁵As for the earth, out of it cometh bread; And underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

⁵பூமியின்மேல் ஆகாரம் விளையும்; அதின் கீழிடங்களிலிருக்கிறவைகளோ, அக்கினியால் மாறினது போலிருக்கும்.

⁶The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, And it hath dust of gold.

⁶அதின் கல்லுகளில் இந்திரநீலம் விளையும்; அதின் பொடியில் பொன்பொடிகளும் உண்டாயிருக்கும்.

⁷That path no bird of prey knoweth, Neither hath the falcon's eye seen it:

⁷ஒரு வழியுண்டு, அது ஒரு பட்சிக்கும் தெரியாது; வல்லூறின் கண்ணும் அதைக் கண்டதில்லை;

⁸The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor hath the fierce lion passed thereby.

⁸துஷ்டமிருகங்களின் கால் அதில் படவில்லை; சிங்கம் அதைக் கடந்ததில்லை.

⁹He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.

⁹அவன் தன் கைகளைக் கற்பாறையின்மேல் நீட்டி, மலைகளை வேரோடே புரட்டுகிறான்.

¹⁰He cutteth out channels among the rocks; And his eye seeth every precious thing.

¹⁰கன்மலைகளுக்குள்ளும் நீர்க்கால்களை வெட்டுகிறான்; அவன் கண் விலையுயர்ந்த எல்லாவற்றையும் காணும்.

¹¹He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; And the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

¹¹ஒரு துளியும் கசியாதபடி ஆறுகளை அடைக்கிறான்; மறைவிடத்திலிருக்கிறதை வெளிச்சத்திலே கொண்டுவருகிறான்.

¹²But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

¹²ஆனாலும் ஞானம் கண்டெடுக்கப்படுவது எங்கே? புத்தி விளைகிற இடம் எது?

¹³Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

¹³அதின் விலை மனுஷனுக்குத் தெரியாது; அது ஜீவனுள்ளோருடைய தேசத்திலே அகப்படுகிறதில்லை.

¹⁴The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me.

¹⁴ஆழமானது: அது என்னிடத்தில் இல்லையென்கிறது; சமுத்திரமானதும், அது என்னிடத்தில் இல்லையென்கிறது.

¹⁵It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

¹⁵அதற்கு ஈடாகத் தங்கத்தைக் கொடுக்கவும், அதற்குக் கிரயமாக வெள்ளியை நிறுக்கவும் கூடாது.

¹⁶It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

¹⁶ஓப்பீரின் தங்கமும், விலையேறப்பெற்ற கோமேதகமும், இந்திர நீலக்கல்லும் அதற்கு ஈடல்ல.

¹⁷Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

¹⁷பொன்னும் பளிங்கும் அதற்கு ஒப்பல்ல; பசும்பொன்னாபரணங்களுக்கு அதை மாற்றக்கூடாது.

¹⁸No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

¹⁸பவளத்தையும் ஸ்படிகத்தையும் அத்தோடே ஒப்பிட்டுப் பேசலாகாது; முத்துகளைப்பார்க்கிலும் ஞானத்தின் விலை உயர்ந்தது.

¹⁹The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

¹⁹எத்தியோப்பியாவின் புஷ்பராகம் அதற்கு நிகரல்ல; பசும்பொன்னும் அதற்குச் சரியல்ல.

²⁰Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?

²⁰இப்படியிருக்க, ஞானம் எங்கேயிருந்து வரும்; புத்தி தங்கும் இடம் எங்கே?

²¹Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens.

²¹அது ஜீவனுள்ள சகலருடைய கண்களுக்கும் ஒளித்தும், ஆகாசத்துப்பறவைகளுக்கு மறைந்தும் இருக்கிறது.

²²Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.

²²நாசமும், மரணமும், நாங்கள் எங்கள் காதுகளினாலேமாத்திரம் அதின் கீர்த்தியைக் கேட்டோம் என்கிறது.

²³God understandeth the way thereof, And he knoweth the place thereof.

²³தேவனோ அதின் வழியை அறிவார், அதின் ஸ்தானம் அவருக்கே தெரியும்.

²⁴For he looketh to the ends of the earth, And seeth under the whole heaven;

²⁴அவர் பூமியின் கடையாந்தரங்களைப் பார்த்து, வானங்களின்கீழ் இருக்கிறதையெல்லாம் காண்கிறார்.

²⁵To make a weight for the wind: Yea, he meteth out the waters by measure.

²⁵அவர் காற்றுக்கு அதின் நிறையை நியமித்து, ஜலத்துக்கு அதின் அளவைப் பிரமாணித்து,

²⁶When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder;

²⁶மழைக்குத் திட்டத்தையும், இடிமுழக்கத்தோடே கூடிய மின்னலுக்கு வழியையும் ஏற்படுத்துகிறார்.

²⁷Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.

²⁷அவர் அதைப் பார்த்துக் கணக்கிட்டார்; அதை ஆராய்ந்து ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி,

²⁸And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.

²⁸மனுஷனை நோக்கி: இதோ, ஆண்டவருக்குப் பயப்படுவதே ஞானம்; பொல்லாப்பை விட்டு விலகுவதே புத்தி என்றார் என்று சொன்னான்.
