¹I made a covenant with mine eyes; How then should I look upon a virgin?

¹என் கண்களோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணின நான் ஒரு கன்னிகையின்மேல் நினைப்பாயிருப்பதெப்படி?

²For what is the portion from God above, And the heritage from the Almighty on high?

²அப்பொழுது உன்னதங்களிலிருந்து தேவன் அளிக்கும் பங்கும், உன்னதத்திலிருந்து சர்வவல்லவர் கொடுக்கும் சுதந்தரமும் கிடைக்குமோ?

³Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, And disaster to the workers of iniquity?

³மாறுபாடானவனுக்கு ஆபத்தும், அக்கிரமச் செய்கைக்காரருக்கு ஆக்கினையுமல்லவோ கிடைக்கும்.

⁴Doth not he see my ways, And number all my steps?

⁴அவர் என் வழிகளைப் பார்த்து, என் நடைகளையெல்லாம் எண்ணுகிறார் அல்லவோ?

⁵If I have walked with falsehood, And my foot hath hasted to deceit

⁵நான் மாயையிலே நடந்தேனோ, என் கால் கபடுசெய்யத் தீவிரித்ததோ என்று,

⁶(Let me be weighed in an even balance, That God may know mine integrity);

⁶சுமுத்திரையான தராசிலே தேவன் என்னை நிறுத்து, என் உத்தமத்தை அறிவாராக.

⁷If my step hath turned out of the way, And my heart walked after mine eyes, And if any spot hath cleaved to my hands:

⁷என் நடைகள் வழியைவிட்டு விலகினதும், என் இருதயம் என் கண்களைப் பின்தொடர்ந்ததும், ஏதாகிலும் ஒரு மாசு என் கைகளில் ஒட்டிக்கொண்டதும் உண்டானால்,

⁸Then let me sow, and let another eat; Yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out.

⁸அப்பொழுது நான் விதைத்ததை வேறொருவன் புசிப்பானாக; என் பயிர்கள் வேரற்றுப்போகக்கடவது.

⁹If my heart hath been enticed unto a woman, And I have laid wait at my neighbor's door;

⁹என் மனம் யாதொரு ஸ்திரீயின்மேல் மயங்கி, அயலானுடைய வாசலை நான் எட்டிப்பார்த்ததுண்டானால்,

¹⁰Then let my wife grind unto another, And let others bow down upon her.

¹⁰அப்பொழுது என் மனைவி வேறொருவனுக்கு மாவரைப்பாளாக; வேற்று மனிதர் அவள்மேல் சாய்வார்களாக.

¹¹For that were a heinous crime; Yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

¹¹அது தோஷம், அது நியாயாதிபதிகளால் விசாரிக்கப்படும் அக்கிரமமாமே.

¹²For it is a fire that consumeth unto Destruction, And would root out all mine increase.

¹²அது பாதாளபரியந்தம் பட்சிக்கும் அக்கினியாய் என் சம்பத்தையெல்லாம் நிர்மூலமாக்கும்.

¹³If I have despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, When they contended with me;

¹³என் வேலைக்காரனானாலும், என் வேலைக்காரியானாலும், என்னோடு வழக்காடும்போது, அவர்கள் நியாயத்தை நான் அசட்டைபண்ணியிருந்தால்,

¹⁴What then shall I do when God riseth up? And when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

¹⁴தேவன் எழும்பும்போது, நான் என்ன செய்வேன்; அவர் விசாரிக்கும்போது, நான் அவருக்கு என்ன மறுஉத்தரவு சொல்லுவேன்.

¹⁵Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁵தாயின் கர்ப்பத்தில் என்னை உண்டுபண்ணினவர் அவனையும் உண்டுபண்ணினார் அல்லவோ? ஒரேவிதமான கர்ப்பத்தில் எங்களை உருவாக்கினார் அல்லவோ?

¹⁶If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

¹⁶எளியவர்கள் வாஞ்சித்ததை நான் கொடாதிருந்து, விதவையின் கண்களைப் பூத்துப்போகப்பண்ணி,

¹⁷Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the fatherless hath not eaten thereof

¹⁷தாய்தகப்பனில்லாத பிள்ளை என் ஆகாரத்தில் சாப்பிடாமல், நான் ஒருவனாய்ச் சாப்பிட்டதுண்டோ?

¹⁸(Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And her have I guided from my mother's womb);

¹⁸என் சிறுவயதுமுதல் அவன் தகப்பனிடத்தில் வளர்வதுபோல என்னோடே வளர்ந்தான்; நான் என் தாயின் கர்ப்பத்திலே பிறந்ததுமுதல் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களைக் கைலாகுகொடுத்து நடத்தினேன்.

¹⁹If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering;

¹⁹ஒருவன் உடுப்பில்லாததினால் மடிந்துபோகிறதையும், ஏழைக்கு மூட வஸ்திரமில்லாதிருக்கிறதையும் நான் கண்டபோது,

²⁰If his loins have not blessed me, And if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²⁰அவன் என் ஆட்டுமயிர்க் கம்பளியினாலே அனல்கொண்டதினால், அவன் இடை என்னைப் புகழாதிருந்ததும்,

²¹If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, Because I saw my help in the gate:

²¹ஒலிமுகவாசலில் எனக்குச் செல்வாக்கு உண்டென்று நான் கண்டு, திக்கற்றவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் என் கையை நீட்டினதும் உண்டானால்,

²²Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, And mine arm be broken from the bone.

²²என் கைப்பட்டை தோளிலிருந்து சரிந்து, என் புயத்து எலும்பு முறிந்துபோவதாக.

²³For calamity from God is a terror to me, And by reason of his majesty I can do nothing.

²³தேவன் ஆக்கினையிடுவார் என்றும், அவருடைய மகத்துவத்தை உத்தரிக்கக்கூடாது என்றும், எனக்குப் பயங்கரமாயிருந்தது.

²⁴If I have made gold my hope, And have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;

²⁴நான் பொன்னின்மேல் என் நம்பிக்கையை வைத்து, தங்கத்தைப்பார்த்து: நீ என் ஆதரவு என்று நான் சொன்னதும்,

²⁵If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gotten much;

²⁵என் ஆஸ்திபெரியதென்றும், என் கைக்கு மிகுதியும் கிடைத்ததென்றும் நான் மகிழ்ந்ததும்,

²⁶If I have beheld the sun when it shined, Or the moon walking in brightness,

²⁶சூரியன் பிரகாசிக்கும்போதும், அல்லது சந்திரன் மகிமையாய்ச் செல்லும்போதும், நான் அதை நோக்கி:

²⁷And my heart hath been secretly enticed, And my mouth hath kissed my hand:

²⁷என் மனம் இரகசியமாய் மயக்கப்பட்டு, என் வாய் என் கையை முத்தி செய்ததுண்டானால்,

²⁸This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges; For I should have denied the God that is above.

²⁸இதுவும் நியாயாதிபதிகளால் விசாரிக்கப்படத்தக்க அக்கிரமமாயிருக்கும்; அதினால் உன்னதத்திலிருக்கிற தேவனை மறுதலிப்பேனே.

²⁹If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, Or lifted up myself when evil found him;

²⁹என் பகைஞனுடைய ஆபத்திலே நான் மகிழ்ந்து, பொல்லாப்பு அவனுக்கு நேரிட்டபோது களிகூர்ந்திருந்தேனோ?

³⁰(Yea, I have not suffered by mouth to sin By asking his life with a curse);

³⁰அவன் ஜீவனுக்குச் சாபத்தைக் கொடுக்கும்படி விரும்பி, வாயினால் பாவஞ்செய்ய நான் இடங்கொடுக்கவில்லை.

³¹If the men of my tent have not said, Who can find one that hath not been filled with his meat?

³¹அவன் இனத்தார்களில் திருப்தியாகாதவனைக் காண்பிப்பவன் யாரென்று என் கூடாரத்தின் மனுஷர் சொல்லார்களோ?

³²(The sojourner hath not lodged in the street; But I have opened my doors to the traveller);

³²பரதேசி வீதியிலே இராத்தங்கினதில்லை; வழிப்போக்கனுக்கு என் வாசல்களைத் திறந்தேன்.

³³If like Adam I have covered my transgressions, By hiding mine iniquity in my bosom,

³³நான் ஆதாமைப்போல என் மீறுதல்களை மூடி, என் அக்கிரமத்தை என் மடியிலே ஒளித்துவைத்தேனோ?

³⁴Because I feared the great multitude, And the contempt of families terrified me, So that I kept silence, and went not out of the door-

³⁴திரளான என் கூட்டத்துக்கு நான் பயந்ததினாலாவது, இனத்தார் ஜனத்தார் பண்ணும் இகழ்ச்சி என்னைத் திடுக்கிடப்பண்ணினதினாலாவது, நான் பேசாதிருந்து, வாசற்படியை விட்டுப் புறப்படாதிருந்தேனோ?

³⁵Oh that I had one to hear me! (Lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me); And [that I had] the indictment which mine adversary hath written!

³⁵ஆ, என் வழக்கைக் கேட்கிறவன் ஒருவன் இருந்தால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; இதோ, சர்வவல்லவர் எனக்கு உத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்யவும், என் எதிராளி தன் வழக்கை எழுதிக்கொடுக்கவும் எனக்கு விருப்பமுண்டு.

³⁶Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown:

³⁶அதை நான் என் தோளின்மேல் வைத்து, எனக்குக் கிரீடமாகத் தரித்துக்கொள்வேனே.

³⁷I would declare unto him the number of my steps; As a prince would I go near unto him.

³⁷அவனுக்கு நான் என் நடைகளைத் தொகை தொகையாய்க் காண்பித்து, ஒரு பிரபுவைப்போல அவனிடத்தில் போவேன்.

³⁸If my land crieth out against me, And the furrows thereof weep together;

³⁸எனக்கு விரோதமாக என் காணி பூமி கூப்பிடுகிறதும், அதின் படைச்சால்கள்கூட அழுகிறதும்,

³⁹If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, Or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

³⁹கூலிகொடாமல் நான் அதின் பலனைப் புசித்து, பயிரிட்டவர்களின் ஆத்துமாவை உபத்திரவப்படுத்தினதும் உண்டானால்,

⁴⁰Let thistles grow instead of wheat, And cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
