¹Maschil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law: Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

¹என் ஜனங்களே, என் உபதேசத்தைக் கேளுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வசனங்களுக்கு உங்கள் செவிகளைச் சாயுங்கள்.

²I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,

²என் வாயை உவமைகளால் திறப்பேன்; பூர்வகாலத்து மறைபொருள்களை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன்.

³Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.

³அவைகளை நாங்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டு அறிந்தோம்; எங்கள் பிதாக்கள் அவைகளை எங்களுக்குத் தெரிவித்தார்கள்.

⁴We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, And his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done.

⁴பின்வரும் சந்ததியான பிள்ளைகளுக்கு நாங்கள் அவைகளை மறைக்காமல், கர்த்தரின் துதிகளையும் அவருடைய பலத்தையும், அவர் செய்த அவருடைய அதியங்களையும் விவரிப்போம்.

⁵For he established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which he commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children;

⁵அவர் யாக்கோபிலே சாட்சியை ஏற்படுத்தி, இஸ்ரவேலிலே வேதத்தை ஸ்தாபித்து, அவைகளைத் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி நம்முடைய பிதாக்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

⁶That the generation to come might know [them], even the children that should be born; Who should arise and tell [them] to their children,

⁶இனிப் பிறக்கும் பிள்ளைகளாகிய பின்சந்ததியார் அதை அறிந்துகொண்டு, அவர்கள் எழும்பித் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அவைகளைச் சொல்லும்படிக்கும்;

⁷That they might set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep his commandments,

⁷தேவன்மேல் அவர்கள் தங்கள் நம்பிக்கையை வைத்து, தேவனுடைய செயல்களை மறவாமல், அவர் கற்பனைகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளும்படிக்கும்;

⁸And might not be as their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that set not their heart aright, And whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

⁸இருதயத்தைச் செவ்வைப்படுத்தாமலும், தேவனை உறுதியாய்ப் பற்றிக்கொள்ளாமலும் இருந்த முரட்டாட்டமும் கலகமுமுள்ள சந்ததியாகிய தங்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு அவர்கள் ஒப்பாகாதபடிக்கும், இவைகளைக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

⁹The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle.

⁹ஆயுதமணிந்த வில்வீரரான எப்பிராயீம் புத்திரர் யுத்தநாளிலே முதுகு காட்டினார்கள்.

¹⁰They kept not the covenant of God, And refused to walk in his law;

¹⁰அவர்கள் தேவனுடைய உடன்படிக்கையைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமலும், அவருடைய கட்டளைகளின்படி நடக்கச் சம்மதியாமலும்,

¹¹And they forgat his doings, And his wondrous works that he had showed them.

¹¹அவருடைய செயல்களையும், அவர் தங்களுக்குக் காண்பித்த அதிசயங்களையும் மறந்தார்கள்.

¹²Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

¹²அவர்களுடைய பிதாக்களுக்கு முன்பாக, எகிப்து தேசத்துச் சோவான் வெளியிலே, அவர் அதிசயமானவைகளைச் செய்தார்.

¹³He clave the sea, and caused them to pass through; And he made the waters to stand as a heap.

¹³கடலைப் பிளந்து, அவர்களைக் கடக்கப்பண்ணி, ஜலத்தைக் குவியலாக நிற்கும்படிச்செய்தார்.

¹⁴In the day-time also he led them with a cloud, And all the night with a light of fire.

¹⁴பகலிலே மேகத்தினாலும், இராமுழுவதும் அக்கினி வெளிச்சத்தினாலும் அவர்களை வழிநடத்தினார்.

¹⁵He clave rocks in the wilderness, And gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.

¹⁵வனாந்தரத்திலே கன்மலைகளைப் பிளந்து, மகா ஆழங்களிலிருந்து தண்ணீரை அவர்களுக்குக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்.

¹⁶He brought streams also out of the rock, And caused waters to run down like rivers.

¹⁶கன்மலையிலிருந்து நீரோட்டங்களைப் புறப்படப்பண்ணி, தண்ணீரை நதிபோல ஓடிவரும்படி செய்தார்.

¹⁷Yet went they on still to sin against him, To rebel against the Most High in the desert.

¹⁷என்றாலும், அவர்கள் பின்னும் அவருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்து, வறண்ட வெளியிலே உன்னதமானவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டினார்கள்.

¹⁸And they tempted God in their heart By asking food according to their desire.

¹⁸தங்கள் இச்சைக்கேற்ற போஜனத்தைக்கேட்டு, தங்கள் இருதயத்தில் தேவனைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்தார்கள்.

¹⁹Yea, they spake against God; They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

¹⁹அவர்கள் தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பேசி: தேவன் வனாந்தரத்திலே போஜனபந்தியை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தக்கூடுமோ?

²⁰Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, And streams overflowed; Can he give bread also? Will he provide flesh for his people?

²⁰இதோ அவர் கன்மலையை அடித்ததினால் தண்ணீர் புறப்பட்டு, நதிகளாய்ப் புரண்டுவந்தது; அவர் அப்பத்தையும் கொடுக்கக்கூடுமோ? தம்முடைய ஜனத்திற்கு மாம்சத்தையும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்துவாரோ? என்றார்கள்.

²¹Therefore Jehovah heard, and was wroth; And a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also went up against Israel;

²¹ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் அதைக் கேட்டுக் கோபங்கொண்டார்; அவர்கள் தேவனை விசுவாசியாமலும், அவருடைய இரட்சிப்பை நம்பாமலும் போனதினால்,

²²Because they believed not in God, And trusted not in his salvation.

²²யாக்கோபுக்கு விரோதமாய் அக்கினி பற்றியெரிந்தது; இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கோபம் மூண்டது.

²³Yet he commanded the skies above, And opened the doors of heaven;

²³அவர் உயரத்திலுள்ள மேகங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டு, வானத்தின் கதவுகளைத் திறந்து,

²⁴And he rained down manna upon them to eat, And gave them food from heaven.

²⁴மன்னாவை அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரமாக வருஷிக்கப்பண்ணி, வானத்தின் தானியத்தை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.

²⁵Man did eat the bread of the mighty: He sent them food to the full.

²⁵தூதர்களின் அப்பத்தை மனுஷன் சாப்பிட்டான்; அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரத்தைப் பூரணமாய் அனுப்பினார்.

²⁶He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens; And by his power he guided the south wind.

²⁶ஆகாசத்திலே கீழ்காற்றை வரப்பண்ணி, தம்முடைய வல்லமையினால் தென்றலையும் வீசச்செய்து,

²⁷He rained flesh also upon them as the dust, And winged birds as the sand of the seas:

²⁷மாம்சத்தைத் தூளத்தனையாயும், சிறகுள்ள பறவைகளைக் கடற்கரை மணலத்தனையாயும் வருஷிக்கப்பண்ணி,

²⁸And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, Round about their habitations.

²⁸அவைகளை அவர்கள் பாளயத்தின் நடுவிலும், அவர்கள் கூடாரங்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இறங்கப்பண்ணினார்.

²⁹So they did eat, and were well filled; And he gave them their own desire.

²⁹அவர்கள் புசித்துத் திருப்தியடைந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் இச்சித்ததை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.

³⁰They were not estranged from that which they desired, Their food was yet in their mouths,

³⁰அவர்கள் தங்கள் இச்சையை வெறுக்கவில்லை; அவர்களுடைய போஜனம் அவர்கள் வாயில் இருக்கும்போதே.

³¹When the anger of God went up against them, And slew of the fattest of them, And smote down the young men of Israel.

³¹தேவகோபம் அவர்கள்மேல் எழும்பி, அவர்களில் கொழுத்தவர்களைச் சங்கரித்து, இஸ்ரவேலில் விசேஷித்தவர்களை மடியப்பண்ணிற்று.

³²For all this they sinned still, And believed not in his wondrous works.

³²இவையெல்லாம் நடந்தும், அவர் செய்த அதிசயங்களை அவர்கள் நம்பாமல், பின்னும் பாவஞ்செய்தார்கள்.

³³Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, And their years in terror.

³³ஆதலால் அவர்கள் நாட்களை விருதாவிலும், அவர்கள் வருஷங்களைப் பயங்கரத்திலும் கழியப்பண்ணினார்.

³⁴When he slew them, then they inquired after him; And they returned and sought God earnestly.

³⁴அவர்களை அவர் கொல்லும்போது அவரைக்குறித்து விசாரித்து, அவர்கள் திரும்பிவந்து தேவனை அதிகாலமே தேடி;

³⁵And they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their redeemer.

³⁵தேவன் தங்கள் கன்மலையென்றும், உன்னதமான தேவன் தங்கள் மீட்பர் என்றும், நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்கள்.

³⁶But they flattered him with their mouth, And lied unto him with their tongue.

³⁶ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாயினால் அவருக்கு இச்சகம்பேசி, தங்கள் நாவினால் அவரிடத்தில் பொய்சொன்னார்கள்.

³⁷For their heart was not right with him, Neither were they faithful in his covenant.

³⁷அவர்கள் இருதயம் அவரிடத்தில் நிலைவரப்படவில்லை; அவருடைய உடன்படிக்கையில் அவர்கள் உண்மையாயிருக்கவில்லை.

³⁸But he, being merciful, forgave [their] iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: Yea, many a time turned he his anger away, And did not stir up all his wrath.

³⁸அவரோ அவர்களை அழிக்காமல், இரக்கமுள்ளவராய் அவர்கள் அக்கிரமத்தை மன்னித்தார்; அவர் தமது உக்கிரம் முழுவதையும் எழுப்பாமல், அநேகந்தரம் தமது கோபத்தை விலக்கிவிட்டார்.

³⁹And he remembered that they were but flesh, A wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

³⁹அவர்கள் மாம்சமென்றும், திரும்பிவராமல் அகலுகிற காற்றென்றும் நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்.

⁴⁰How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, And grieve him in the desert!

⁴⁰எத்தனைதரமோ வனாந்தரத்திலே அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, அவாந்தர வெளியிலே அவரை விசனப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

⁴¹And they turned again and tempted God, And provoked the Holy One of Israel.

⁴¹அவர்கள் திரும்பி தேவனைப் பரீட்சை பார்த்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் பரிசுத்தரை மட்டுப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

⁴²They remember not his hand, Nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;

⁴²அவருடைய கரத்தையும், அவர் தங்களைச் சத்துருவுக்கு விலக்கி மீட்ட நாளையும் நினையாமற் போனார்கள்.

⁴³How he set his signs in Egypt, And his wonders in the field of Zoan,

⁴³அவர் எகிப்திலே தம்முடைய அடையாளங்களையும், சோவான் வெளியிலே தம்முடைய அற்புதங்களையும் செய்தார்.

⁴⁴And turned their rivers into blood, And their streams, so that they could not drink.

⁴⁴அவர்களுடைய நதிகளை இரத்தமாக மாற்றி, அவர்களுடைய ஆறுகளிலுள்ள ஜலத்தைக் குடிக்கக்கூடாதபடி செய்தார்.

⁴⁵He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; And frogs, which destroyed them.

⁴⁵அவர்களை அழிக்கும்படி வண்டு ஜாதிகளையும், அவர்களைக் கெடுக்கும்படி தவளைகளையும் அவர்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார்.

⁴⁶He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, And their labor unto the locust.

⁴⁶அவர்களுடைய விளைச்சலைப் புழுக்களுக்கும், அவர்களுடைய பிரயாசத்தின் பலனை வெட்டுக்கிளிகளுக்கும் கொடுத்தார்.

⁴⁷He destroyed their vines with hail, And their sycomore-trees with frost.

⁴⁷கல்மழையினால் அவர்களுடைய திராட்சச்செடிகளையும், ஆலாங்கட்டியினால் அவர்களுடைய அத்திமரங்களையும் அழித்து,

⁴⁸He gave over their cattle also to the hail, And their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

⁴⁸அவர்களுடைய மிருகஜீவன்களைக் கல்மழைக்கும், அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகளை இடிகளுக்கும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

⁴⁹He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, Wrath, and indignation, and trouble, A band of angels of evil.

⁴⁹தமது உக்கிரமான கோபத்தையும், மூர்க்கத்தையும், சினத்தையும், உபத்திரவத்தையும், தீங்குசெய்யும் தூதர்களையும் அவர்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார்.

⁵⁰He made a path for his anger; He spared not their soul from death, But gave their life over to the pestilence,

⁵⁰அவர் தம்முடைய கோபத்துக்கு வழிதிறந்து, அவர்கள் ஆத்துமாவை மரணத்துக்கு விலக்கிக் காவாமல், அவர்கள் ஜீவனைக் கொள்ளைநோய்க்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

⁵¹And smote all the first-born in Egypt, The chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.

⁵¹எகிப்திலே தலைச்சன்கள் அனைத்தையும், காமின் கூடாரங்களிலே அவர்களுடைய பெலனில் முதற்பலனான யாவரையும் அழித்து;

⁵²But he led forth his own people like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

⁵²தம்முடைய ஜனங்களை ஆடுகளைப்போல் புறப்படப்பண்ணி, அவர்களை வனாந்தரத்திலே மந்தையைப்போல் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்;

⁵³And he led them safely, so that they feared not; But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

⁵³அவர்கள் பயப்படாதபடிக்கு அவர்களைப் பத்திரமாய் வழிநடத்தினார்; அவர்கள் சத்துருக்களைக் கடல் மூடிப்போட்டது.

⁵⁴And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, To this mountain, which his right hand had gotten.

⁵⁴அவர்களைத் தமது பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தின் எல்லைவரைக்கும், தமது வலதுகரம் சம்பாதித்த இந்தப் பர்வதமட்டுக்கும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து,

⁵⁵He drove out the nations also before them, And allotted them for an inheritance by line, And made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

⁵⁵அவர்கள் முகத்திற்கு முன்பாக ஜாதிகளைத் துரத்திவிட்டு, தேசத்தை நூல்போட்டுப் பங்கிட்டு, அவர்களுடைய கூடாரங்களில் இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களைக் குடியேற்றினார்.

⁵⁶Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, And kept not his testimonies;

⁵⁶ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் உன்னதமான தேவனைப் பரீட்சை பார்த்து, அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, அவருடைய சாட்சிகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமற்போய்,

⁵⁷But turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers: They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

⁵⁷தங்கள் பிதாக்களைப்போல வழிவிலகி, துரோகம்பண்ணி, மோசம்போக்கும் வில்லைப்போல் துவண்டு,

⁵⁸For they provoked him to anger with their high places, And moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

⁵⁸தங்கள் மேடைகளினால் அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, தங்கள் விக்கிரகங்களினால் எரிச்சல் உண்டாக்கினார்கள்.

⁵⁹When God heard [this], he was wroth, And greatly abhorred Israel;

⁵⁹தேவன் அதைக் கேட்டு உக்கிரமாகி, இஸ்ரவேலை மிகவும் வெறுத்து,

⁶⁰So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent which he placed among men;

⁶⁰தாம் மனுஷருக்குள்ளே போட்ட கூடாரமாகிய சீலோவிலுள்ள வாசஸ்தலத்தை விட்டுவிலகி,

⁶¹And delivered his strength into captivity, And his glory into the adversary's hand.

⁶¹தமது பலத்தைச் சிறையிருப்புக்கும், தமது மகிமையைச் சத்துருவின் கைக்கும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து,

⁶²He gave his people over also unto the sword, And was wroth with his inheritance.

⁶²தமது ஜனத்தைப் பட்டயத்துக்கு இரையாக்கி, தமது சுதந்தரத்தின்மேல் கோபங்கொண்டார்.

⁶³Fire devoured their young men; And their virgins had no marriage-song.

⁶³அவர்கள் வாலிபரை அக்கினி பட்சித்தது, அவர்கள் கன்னியாஸ்திரீகள் வாழ்க்கைப்படாதிருந்தார்கள்.

⁶⁴Their priests fell by the sword; And their widows made no lamentation.

⁶⁴அவர்களுடைய ஆசாரியர்கள் பட்டயத்தால் விழுந்தார்கள், அவர்களுடைய விதவைகள் அழவில்லை.

⁶⁵Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, Like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

⁶⁵அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் நித்திரை தெளிந்தவனைப்போலவும், திராட்சரசத்தால் கெம்பீரிக்கிற பராக்கிரமசாலியைப்போலவும் விழித்து,

⁶⁶And he smote his adversaries backward: He put them to a perpetual reproach.

⁶⁶தம்முடைய சத்துருக்களைப் பின்புறமாக அடித்து, அவர்களுக்கு நித்திய நிந்தையை வரப்பண்ணினார்.

⁶⁷Moreover he refused the tent of Joseph, And chose not the tribe of Ephraim,

⁶⁷அவர் யோசேப்பின் கூடாரத்தைப் புறக்கணித்தார்; எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தை அவர் தெரிந்துகொள்ளாமல்,

⁶⁸But chose the tribe of Judah, The mount Zion which he loved.

⁶⁸யூதா கோத்திரத்தையும் தமக்குப் பிரியமான சீயோன் பர்வதத்தையும் தெரிந்துகொண்டார்.

⁶⁹And he built his sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which he hath established for ever.

⁶⁹தம்முடைய பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தை மலைகளைப்போலவும், என்றைக்கும் நிற்கும்படி தாம் அஸ்திபாரப்படுத்தின பூமியைப்போலவும் கட்டினார்.

⁷⁰He chose David also his servant, And took him from the sheepfolds:

⁷⁰தம்முடைய தாசனாகிய தாவீதைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டு, ஆட்டுத்தொழுவங்களிலிருந்து அவனை எடுத்தார்.

⁷¹From following the ewes that have their young he brought him, To be the shepherd of Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

⁷¹கறவலாடுகளின் பின்னாகத் திரிந்த அவனை, தம்முடைய ஜனமாகிய யாக்கோபையும் தம்முடைய சுதந்தரமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலையும் மேய்ப்பதற்காக, அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தார்.

⁷²So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

⁷²இவன் அவர்களைத் தன் இருதயத்தின் உண்மையின்படியே மேய்த்து, தன் கைகளின் திறமையினால் அவர்களை நடத்தினான்.
