¹সেই দিনগুলিতে আবার একবার অনেক লোকেরভীড় হল৷ তাদের কাছে খাবার ছিল না, তাই তিনি তাঁর শিষ্যদের ডেকে বললেন,

¹In those days the multitude being very great, and not having what they may eat, Jesus having called near his disciples, saith to them,

²‘এই লোকদের জন্য আমার মমতা হচ্ছে, কারণ এরা আজ তিনদিন ধরে আমার কাছে রয়েছে, এদের কাছে কিছু খাবার নেই৷

²`I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they do continue with me, and they have not what they may eat;

³যদি আমি এদের ক্ষুধার্ত ও অভুক্ত অবস্থায় বাড়ি পাঠাই, তবে এরা রাস্তায় অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়বে৷ এদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ আবার বহু দূর থেকে এসেছে৷’

³and if I shall let them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way, for certain of them are come from far.`

⁴তাঁর শিষ্যেরা এর উত্তরে বললেন, ‘এই জনমানবহীন জায়গায় আমরা কোথা থেকে এতগুলো লোকের খাবার জোগাড় করব?’

⁴And his disciples answered him, `Whence shall any one be able these here to feed with bread in a wilderness?`

⁵তিনি তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, ‘তোমাদের কখানা রুটি আছে?’ তারা বলল, ‘সাতখানা৷’

⁵And he was questioning them, `How many loaves have ye?` and they said, `Seven.`

⁶তখন তিনি লোকেদের মাটিতে বসতে আদেশ দিলেন৷ পরে সেই সাতটা রুটি তুলে নিয়ে ঈশ্বরকে ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে রুটি গুলোকে টুকরো টুকরো করে পরিবেশনের জন্য শিষ্যদের হাতে তুলে দিলেন৷ তাঁরাও লোকদের মধ্যে পরিবেশন করলেন৷

⁶And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he brake, and was giving to his disciples that they may set before [them]; and they did set before the multitude.

⁷তাদের কাছে কতগুলো ছোট মাছ ছিল; তিনি সেগুলোর জন্যও ঈশ্বরকে ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে শিষ্যদের বললেন, ‘এগুলো পরিবেশন করে দাও৷’

⁷And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed, he said to set them also before [them];

⁸লোকরা খেয়ে তৃপ্তি পেল৷ অবশিষ্ট টুকরো দিয়ে তারা সাতটি ঝুড়ি ভর্তি করল৷

⁸and they did eat and were filled, and they took up that which was over of broken pieces — seven baskets;

⁹সেদিন প্রায় চার হাজার লোক খেয়েছিল৷ এরপর তিনি তাদের বাড়ি পাঠিয়ে দিলেন;

⁹and those eating were about four thousand. And he let them away,

¹⁰আর সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তিনি শিষ্যদের নিয়ে নৌকা করে দল্মনুথা অঞ্চলে চলে এলেন৷

¹⁰and immediately having entered into the boat with his disciples, he came to the parts of Dalmanutha,

¹¹পরে সেখানে ফরীশীরা এসে যীশুর সঙ্গে তর্ক জুড়ে দিল৷ তাঁর কাছে আকাশ থেকে কোন অলৌকিক চিহ্ন দেখতে চাইল৷ তাদের উদ্দেশ্য ছিল তাঁকে পরীক্ষা করা৷

¹¹and the Pharisees came forth, and began to dispute with him, seeking from him a sign from the heaven, tempting him;

¹²তখন তিনি দীর্ঘ নিঃশ্বাস ছেড়ে বললেন, ‘এই যুগের লোকরা কেন অলৌকিক চিহ্ন দেখতে চায়? আমি তোমাদের সত্যি বলছি কোন অলৌকিক চিহ্ন এই লোকদের দেখানো হবে না৷’

¹²and having sighed deeply in his spirit, he saith, `Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.`

¹³তখন তিনি তাদের ছেড়ে নৌকা করেহ্রদের অপর পারে গেলেন৷

¹³And having left them, having entered again into the boat, he went away to the other side;

¹⁴কিন্তু শিষ্যেরা রুটি আনতে ভুলে গিয়েছিলেন: নৌকায় তাদের কাছে কেবল একখানা রুটি ছাড়া আর কোন রুটি ছিল না৷

¹⁴and they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf they had nothing with them in the boat,

¹⁵তখন তিনি তাদের সতর্ক করে দিয়ে বললেন, ‘সাবধান! তোমরা হেরোদ এবং ফরীশীদের খামিরের বিষয়ে সাবধান থেকো!’

¹⁵and he was charging them, saying, `Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,`

¹⁶তখন তাঁরা নিজেদের মধ্যে আলোচনা করতে লাগলেন, ‘আমাদের কাছে কোন রুটি নেই৷’

¹⁶and they were reasoning with one another, saying — `Because we have no loaves.`

¹⁷তাঁরা যা বলছেন, তা বুঝতে পেরে যীশু বললেন, ‘তোমাদের রুটি নেই বলে কেন আলোচনা করছ? তোমরা এখনও কি দেখ না বা বোঝ না, তোমাদের মন কি এতই কঠিন?

¹⁷And Jesus having known, saith to them, `Why do ye reason, because ye have no loaves? do ye not yet perceive, nor understand, yet have ye your heart hardened?

¹⁸চোখ থাকতে কি তোমরা দেখতে পাও না? কান থাকতে কি শুনতে পাও না? আর তোমাদের কি মনেও পড়ে না?

¹⁸Having eyes, do ye not see? and having ears, do ye not hear? and do ye not remember?

¹⁹যখন আমি পাঁচ হাজার লোকের মধ্যে পাঁচটি রুটি টুকরো করে দিয়েছিলাম: তখন তোমরা কত টুকরি উদ্বৃত্ত রুটির টুকরো কুড়িয়ে নিয়েছিলে?’ তাঁরা বললেন, ‘বারো টুকরি৷’

¹⁹When the five loaves I did brake to the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?` they say to him, `Twelve.`

²⁰যীশু আবার বললেন, ‘আমি যখন সাতটা রুটি চার হাজার লোকের মধ্যে টুকরো করে দিয়েছিলাম তখন কত টুকরি উদ্বৃত্ত রুটির টুকরো তোমরা তুলে নিয়েছিলে?’ তাঁরা বললেন, ‘সাত টুকরি৷’

²⁰`And when the seven to the four thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?` and they said, `Seven.`

²¹তখন তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, ‘তোমরা কি এখনও বুঝতে পারছ না?’

²¹And he said to them, `How do ye not understand?`

²²তারপর তাঁরা বৈত্‌সৈদায় এলেন: আর লোকরা তাঁর কাছে একটা অন্ধ লোককে নিয়ে এসে মিনতি করল যাতে তিনি তাকে স্পর্শ করেন৷

²²And he cometh to Bethsaida, and they bring to him one blind, and call upon him that he may touch him,

²³তখন তিনি অন্ধ লোকটির হাত ধরে তাকে গ্রামের বাইরে নিয়ে গেলেন৷ তিনি লোকটির চোখে খানিকটা থুথু লাগিয়ে তার ওপরে হাত রেখে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, ‘তুমি কি কিছু দেখতে পাচ্ছ?’

²³and having taken the hand of the blind man, he led him forth without the village, and having spit on his eyes, having put [his] hands on him, he was questioning him if he doth behold anything:

²⁴সে চোখ তুলে চেয়ে বলল, ‘আমি মানুষ দেখতে পাচ্ছি; গাছের মত দেখতে, তারা ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে৷’

²⁴and he, having looked up, said, `I behold men, as I see trees, walking.`

²⁵তখন তিনি আবার তার চোখের ওপর হাত রাখলেন৷ এইবার লোকটি চোখ বড় বড় করে তাকাল৷ তার দৃষ্টিশক্তি সম্পূর্ণভাবে ফিরে পেল এবং সবকিছু স্পষ্টভাবে দেখতে পেল৷

²⁵Afterwards again he put [his] hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly,

²⁶তারপর তিনি তাকে বাড়ি পাঠিয়ে দিয়ে বললেন, ‘এই গ্রামে য়েও না৷’

²⁶and he sent him away to his house, saying, `Neither to the village mayest thou go, nor tell [it] to any in the village.`

²⁷তারপর যীশু এবং তাঁর শিষ্যরা সেখান থেকে কৈসরিযা ফিলিপীয় অঞ্চলে চলে গেলেন৷ রাস্তার মধ্যে তিনি তাঁর শিষ্যদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, ‘আমি কে, এ বিষয়ে লোকের কি বলে?’

²⁷And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, to the villages of Cesarea Philippi, and in the way he was questioning his disciples, saying to them, `Who do men say me to be?`

²⁸তাঁরা বললেন, ‘অনেকে বলে আপনি, ‘বাপ্তিস্মদাতা য়োহন৷ কেউ কেউ বলে, আপনি এলীয়৷ আবার কেউ কেউ বলে, আপনি ভাববাদীদের মধ্যে একজন৷’

²⁸And they answered, `John the Baptist, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.`

²⁹তখন তিনি তাঁদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, ‘কিন্তু তোমরা কি বল, আমি কে?’ পিতর তাঁকে বললেন, ‘আপনি সেই খ্রীষ্ট৷’

²⁹And he saith to them, `And ye — who do ye say me to be?` and Peter answering saith to him, `Thou art the Christ.`

³⁰তখন তিনি তাঁদের সাবধান করে দিয়ে বললেন, ‘তোমরা এ কথা কাউকে বলো না৷’

³⁰And he strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it,

³¹এরপর তিনি তাঁদের এই শিক্ষা দিতে শুরু করলেন য়ে, মানবপুত্রকে অনেক দুঃখ ভোগ করতে হবে এবং বয়স্ক ইহুদী নেতারা, প্রধান যাজক ও ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষকরা তাঁকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করবে, হত্যা করবে এবং মৃত্যুর তিনদিন পর তিনি আবার বেঁচে উঠবেন৷

³¹and began to teach them, that it behoveth the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again;

³²এই কথা তিনি তাঁদের স্পষ্টভাবে বললেন, তাতে পিতর তাঁকে একপাশে নিয়ে গিয়ে অনুয়োগ করতে লাগলেন৷

³²and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him,

³³কিন্তু যীশু তাঁর শিষ্যদের দিকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে পিতরকে ধমক দিয়ে বললেন, ‘আমার সামনে থেকে দূর হও, শয়তান! কারণ তুমি ঈশ্বরের ইচ্ছার সমাদর করছ না; তুমি মানুষের মতোই ভেবে এই কথা বলছ৷’

³³and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, `Get behind me, Adversary, because thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.`

³⁴এরপর তিনি শিষ্যদেব সঙ্গে অন্যান্য লোকদেরও নিজের কাছে ডেকে বললেন, ‘কেউ যদি আমার সঙ্গে আসতে চায়., সে নিজেকে অস্বীকার করুক এবং তার নিজের ক্রুশ তুলে নিয়ে আমার অনুসারী হোক৷

³⁴And having called near the multitude, with his disciples, he said to them, `Whoever doth will to come after me — let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me;

³⁵কারণ কেউ যদি নিজের প্রাণ রক্ষা করতে চায় তবে সে তা হারাবে; কিন্তু কেউ যদি আমার এবং সুসমাচারের জন্য নিজের প্রাণ হারায় তবে তার জীবন চিরস্থায়ী হবে৷

³⁵for whoever may will to save his life shall lose it; and whoever may lose his life for my sake and for the good news` sake, he shall save it;

³⁶মানুষ যদি নিজের জীবন হারিয়ে সমস্ত জগত্ লাভ করে তবে তার কি লাভ?

³⁶for what shall it profit a man, if he may gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

³⁷কিংবা মানুষ তার প্রাণের বিনিময়ে কি দিতে পারে?

³⁷Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

³⁸য়ে কেউ এই ব্যভিচারী ও পাপীদের যুগে আমাকেএবং আমার শিক্ষাকে লজ্জার বিষয় মনে করে, মানবপুত্র যখন তাঁর পিতার মহিমায় মহিমান্বিত হয়ে পবিত্র স্বর্গদূতদের সঙ্গে ফিরে আসবেন, তখন তিনিও সেই লোকের বিষয়ে লজ্জাবোধ করবেন৷

³⁸for whoever may be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also shall be ashamed of him, when he may come in the glory of his Father, with the holy messengers.`
