¹এরপর যাজক স্তিফানকে বললেন, ‘এসব কথা কি সত্যি?’

¹The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

²এর উত্তরে স্তিফান বললেন, ‘ভাইয়েরা ও এই জাতির পিতাগণ, আমার কথা শুনুন৷ আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষ অব্রাহাম হারণে বসবাস করার আগে য়ে সময় মিসপতামিযাতে ছিলেন, সেই সময় মহিমার ঈশ্বর তাঁর সামনে আবির্ভূত হয়েছিলেন৷

²He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

³আর তাঁকে বলেছিলেন, ‘তুমি তোমার স্বদেশ ও স্বজনের মধ্য থেকে চলে এস, আর আমি য়ে দেশ দেখাব সেই দেশে যাও৷’

³and said to him, ‘Get out of your land, and from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’ Genesis 12:1

⁴অব্রাহাম তখন কলদীয়ের দেশ ছেড়ে হারণে এসে বসবাস করেন৷ তাঁর বাবার মৃত্যুর পর ঈশ্বর তাঁকে সেখান থেকে এই দেশে আনলেন, য়ে দেশে এখন আপনারা বাস করছেন৷

⁴Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land, where you are now living.

⁵এখানে ঈশ্বর তাঁকে কোন ভূসম্পত্তি দিলেন না, এমন কি এক ছটাক জমিও না; কিন্তু প্রতিশ্রুতি দিলেন য়ে শেষ পর্যন্ত এই দেশটা তাঁকে ও তাঁর বংশধরদের দেবেন৷ যদিও অব্রাহামের তখনও কোন সন্তান ছিল না৷

⁵He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on. He promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he still had no child.

⁶ঈশ্বর তাঁকে এই কথা বললেন, ‘তোমার বংশধরেরা বিদেশে প্রবাসী জীবন কাটাবে, তারা দাসত্ব-শৃঙ্খলে বদ্ধ হবে, আর সে দেশের লোকেরা তাদের প্রতি চারশো বছর ধরে অত্যাচার করবে৷

⁶God spoke in this way: that his seed would live as aliens in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years.

⁷তারা য়ে জাতির দাসত্ব করবে, আমি তাদের দণ্ড দেব৷’ ঈশ্বর আরো বললেন, ‘এরপর তারা সেই দেশ থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে এখানে আমার উপাসনা করবে৷’

⁷‘I will judge the nation to which they will be in bondage,’ said God, ‘and after that will they come out, and serve me in this place.’ Genesis 15:13-14

⁸এরপর অব্রাহামের সঙ্গে ঈশ্বর এক চুক্তি করলেন৷ এই চুক্তির চিহ্ন হল সুন্নত সংস্কার৷ এরপর অব্রাহামের একটি পুত্র সন্তান হল৷ আট দিনের দিন তিনি তার সুন্নত করালেন; সেই পুত্রের নাম ইসহাক৷ ইসহাকের পুত্র যাকোবেরও তারা সুন্নত করলেন৷ যাকোবের পুত্ররা বারোজন গোষ্ঠীর পিতা হলেন৷

⁸He gave him the covenant of circumcision. So Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

⁹‘তাদের সেই পিতাগণ য়োষেফের প্রতি ঈর্ষান্বিত হলেন৷ য়োষেফকে দাস ব্যবসাযীদের কাছে বিক্রি করা হলে তাকে মিশরে নিয়ে আসা হল, কিন্তু ঈশ্বর তাঁর সহবর্তী ছিলেন৷

⁹“The patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt. God was with him,

¹⁰য়োষেফ সেখানে অনেক কষ্ট পেয়েছিলেন; কিন্তু ঈশ্বর তাকে তাঁর সমস্ত কষ্টের হাত থেকে উদ্ধার করলেন৷ ফরৌণ তখন মিশরের রাজা, য়োষেফের মধ্যে ঈশ্বরদত্ত বিজ্ঞতা দেখতে পেয়ে ফরৌণ তাঁকে পছন্দ করলেন৷ ফরৌণ য়োষেফকে মিশরের অধ্যক্ষরূপে নিযুক্ত করলেন, এমনকি ফরৌণের গৃহের সমস্ত পরিজনের উপরে তাকে কর্তা করলেন৷

¹⁰and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. He made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

¹¹এরপর সারা মিশরে ও কনান দেশে প্রচণ্ড খরা হল৷ এমন খরা যাতে কোন ফসল উত্‌পন্ন হল না, এতে লোকেরা মহাকষ্টে পড়ল৷ আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের খাদ্য়বস্তুর অভাব হল৷

¹¹Now a famine came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction. Our fathers found no food.

¹²কিন্তু যাকোব শুনতে পেলেন য়ে মিশরে শস্য মজুত আছে, তখন তিনি আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের মিশরে পাঠালেন৷

¹²But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers the first time.

¹³তাঁদের সেই ছিল প্রথমবার মিশরে যাওযা৷ তাঁরা যখন দ্বিতীয়বার সেখানে গেলেন, তখন য়োষেফ নিজে থেকে তাঁর ভাইয়েদের কাছে আত্মপরিচয় দিলেন৷ য়োষেফের পরে পরিজনদের সংবাদ ফরৌণ শুনতে পেলেন৷

¹³On the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s race was revealed to Pharaoh.

¹⁴পরে কিছু লোক পাঠিয়ে য়োষেফ তাঁর পিতা যাকোব ও তাঁর সব আত্মীয় পরিজনদের ডেকে পাঠালেন, তাঁরা মোট পঁচাত্তর জন ছিলেন৷

¹⁴Joseph sent, and summoned Jacob, his father, and all his relatives, seventy-five souls.

¹⁵এইভাবে যাকোব মিশরে গেলেন, পরে তাঁর ও আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের সেখানে মৃত্যু হল৷

¹⁵Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, himself and our fathers,

¹⁶তাঁদের মৃতদেহ শিখিমে নিয়ে যাওযা হয়েছিল, আর সেখানে তাঁদেরকে কবরে রাখা হয়৷ এই কবরস্থান অব্রাহাম শিখিম শহরে হমোরের ছেলেদের কাছ থেকে কিছু টাকা দিয়ে কিনেছিলেন৷

¹⁶and they were brought back to Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver from the children of Hamor of Shechem.

¹⁷‘মিশরে ইহুদীরা বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে বহুসংখ্য়ক হয়ে উঠল৷ ঈশ্বর অব্রাহামের কাছে য়ে প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছিলেন তা পূর্ণ হওযার সময় হল৷

¹⁷“But as the time of the promise came close which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

¹⁸মিশরে তখন অন্য একজন রাজা হয়েছেন৷ তিনি য়োষেফের সম্পর্কে জানতেন না৷

¹⁸until there arose a different king, who didn’t know Joseph.

¹⁹এই রাজা আমাদের লোকদের সঙ্গে চাতুরী করলেন৷ তিনি আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের প্রতি দুর্য়্ববহার করতে লাগলেন৷ তাদের নবজাত শিশুদের জোর করে বাইরে ফেলে দিতে হুকুম দিলেন, য়েন তারা মারা যায়৷

¹⁹The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they wouldn’t stay alive.

²⁰সেই সময় মোশির জন্ম হয়, তিনি ঈশ্বরের দৃষ্টিতে সুন্দর ছিলেন, তিন মাস পর্যন্ত তিনি তাঁর পিতার গৃহেই লালিত-পালিত হন৷

²⁰At that time Moses was born, and was exceedingly handsome. He was nourished three months in his father’s house.

²¹পরে তাঁকে বাইরে রেখে দেওযা হলে ফরৌণের কন্যা তাঁকে কুড়িয়ে এনে তাঁর নিজের ছেলের মত মানুষ করেন৷

²¹When he was thrown out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and reared him as her own son.

²²মোশি মিশরীয়দের সমস্ত জ্ঞানে শিক্ষিত হয়ে উঠলেন, আর কথায় ও কাজে মহাক্ষমতাশালী হয়ে উঠলেন৷

²²Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. He was mighty in his words and works.

²³‘মোশির বয়স যখন চল্লিশ বছর তখন তাঁর ইস্রায়েলী ভাইদের সঙ্গে দেখা করার ইচ্ছা হল৷

²³But when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers The word for “brothers” here and where the context allows may be also correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” , the children of Israel.

²⁴মোশি দেখলেন য়ে একজন মিশরীয় একজন ইস্রায়েলীয়র প্রতি দুর্য়্ববহার করছে, তিনি তখন ইস্রায়েলী লোকটির পক্ষ সমর্থন করলেন৷ ইস্রায়েলী লোকটিকে আঘাত করার জন্য মোশি সেই মিশরীয়কে শাস্তি দিলেন এবং তাকে এমন মার দিলেন য়ে সে মরেই গেল৷

²⁴Seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him who was oppressed, striking the Egyptian.

²⁵তিনি মনে করলেন য়ে তাঁর স্বজাতীয় ভাইরা হয়তো বুঝবে য়ে তাদের উদ্ধার করতে ঈশ্বরই তাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, কিন্তু তারা তা বুঝল না৷

²⁵He supposed that his brothers understood that God, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they didn’t understand.

²⁶পরদিন, দুজন ইস্রায়েলী যখন নিজেদের মধ্যে মারামারি করছে, সেই সময় তিনি তাদের কাছে এসে তাদের মধ্যে মিলন করে দেবার জন্য বললেন, ‘দেখ, তোমরা পরস্পর ভাই৷ তবে কেন একে অপরের প্রতি দুর্য়্ববহার করছ?’

²⁶“The day following, he appeared to them as they fought, and urged them to be at peace again, saying, ‘Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong one another?’

²⁷কিন্তু অন্যায়কারী লোকটি মোশিকে ধাক্কা মেরে সরিয়ে দিয়ে বলল, ‘আমাদের বিচার করতে কে তোমাকে অধিকার দিয়েছে?

²⁷But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

²⁸গতকাল তুমি য়েমন সেই মিশরীয়কে খুন করেছিলে, তেমনি কি আমাকেও খুন করতে চাও?’

²⁸Do you want to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ Exodus 2:14

²⁹একথা শুনে মোশি মিশর থেকে পালিয়ে গেলেন; আর মিদিয়নে বিদেশীরূপে বাস করতে লাগলেন৷ সেখানে তিনি অপরিচিত আগন্তুকের মতো ছিলেন৷ সেখানে থাকার সময় মোশির দুই ছেলের জন্ম হয়৷

²⁹Moses fled at this saying, and became a stranger in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.

³⁰‘এর চল্লিশ বছর পরে তিনি যখন সীনয় পর্বতের কাছে মরুপ্রান্তরে ছিলেন, সেখানে এক জ্বলন্ত ঝোপের আগুনের শিখার মধ্যে এক স্বর্গদূত তাঁকে দেখা দিলেন৷

³⁰“When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

³¹এই দেখে মোশি আশ্চর্য হয়ে আরো ভাল করে দেখবার জন্য যখন কাছে গেলেন, তখন প্রভুর এই রব শুনলেন,

³¹When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight. As he came close to see, a voice of the Lord came to him,

³²‘আমি তোমার পিতৃপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর, অব্রাহামের, ইসহাকের ও যাকোবের ঈশ্বর৷’ মোশি ভয়ে কাঁপতে লাগলেন, ভালভাবে তাকাতেও সাহস করলেন না৷

³²‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Exodus 3:6 Moses trembled, and dared not look.

³³এরপর প্রভু তাঁকে বললেন, ‘তোমার পা থেকে চটি (জুতো) খুলে ফেল, কারণ য়েখানে তুমি দাঁড়িয়ে আছ, সেই জায়গা পবিত্র৷

³³The Lord said to him, ‘Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

³⁴মিশরে আমি আমার লোকদের দুরবস্থা ভাল করেই দেখেছি, তাদের আর্তনাদ শুনেছি, তাই আমি তাদের উদ্ধার করার জন্য নেমে এসেছি৷ মোশি, তুমি এস, এখন আমি তোমাকে মিশরে পাঠাব৷’

³⁴I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you into Egypt.’ Exodus 3:5,7-8,10

³⁵‘এই মোশিকেই ইস্রায়েলীয়রা চায় নি বলে বলেছিল, ‘কে তোমাকে আমাদের শাসক ও বিচারক বানিয়েছে?’ মোশিই সেই ব্যক্তি যাকে ঈশ্বর স্বর্গদূতের মাধ্যমে শাসনকর্তা ও ত্রাণকর্তারূপে পাঠিয়েছিলেন৷ সেই স্বর্গদূতকেই মোশি জ্বলন্ত ঝোপের মধ্যে রেখেছিলেন৷

³⁵“This Moses, whom they refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—God has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

³⁶এরপর মোশি লোকদের মিশর থেকে বের করে আনলেন৷ তিনি মিশরে, লোহিত সাগরে আর প্রান্তরে চল্লিশ বছর ধরে বহু অলৌকিক ও পরাক্রমের কাজ করেন৷

³⁶This man led them out, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.

³⁷মোশিই তাঁর ইহুদী ভাইদের বলেছিলেন, ‘ঈশ্বর তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে এক ভাববাদী ঠিক করবেন, তিনি হবেন আমারই মতো৷’

³⁷This is that Moses, who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord our God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me. TR adds “You shall listen to him.” ’ Deuteronomy 18:15

³⁸এই মোশিই প্রান্তরে ইহুদীদের সমাবেশে ছিলেন৷ য়ে স্বর্গদূত সীনয় পর্বতে তাঁর সঙ্গে কথা বলেছিলেন, তিনি তাঁর সঙ্গে ও আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন৷ মোশি ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে জীবনদাযী আদেশ লাভ করে তাঁর আজ্ঞা সকল আমাদের দিয়েছিলেন৷

³⁸This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living oracles to give to us,

³⁹‘কিন্তু আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষেরা তাঁর কথা পালন করতে চান নি, তার পরিবর্তে তাঁরা তাঁকে অগ্রাহ্য় করে মিশরে ফিরে য়েতে চেয়েছিলেন৷

³⁹to whom our fathers wouldn’t be obedient, but rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

⁴⁰আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষরা হারোণকে বললেন, ‘মোশি আমাদের মিশর থেকে বের করে এনেছেন, কিন্তু তার কি হল আমরা কিছুই বুঝতে পারছি না৷ তাই কিছু দেবতাদের গড়ে তোল, যাঁরা আমাদেব আগে আগে যাবে ও পরিচালিত করবে৷’

⁴⁰saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this Moses, who led us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’ Exodus 32:1

⁴¹তাই লোকেরা বাছুরের এক প্রতিমা গড়ল আর সেই প্রতিমার সামনে বলিদান উত্‌সর্গ করল৷ তারা তাদের হাতে গড়া সেই দেবতাকে নিয়ে আনন্দ করতে লাগল৷

⁴¹They made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.

⁴²কিন্তু ঈশ্বর তাদের প্রতি বিমুখ হলেন, তিনি তাদের আকাশের সেনা অর্থাত্ অলীক দেবতাদের পূজায় বাধা দিলেন না৷ ভাববাদীদের পুস্তকে একথা লেখা আছে: ‘হে ইস্রায়েলের গোষ্ঠী, প্রান্তরে চল্লিশ বছর ধরে তোমরা তো আমার উদ্দেশ্যে পশুবলি ও নৈবেদ্য উত্‌সর্গ কর নি;

⁴²But God turned, and gave them up to serve the army of the sky, This idiom could also be translated “host of heaven,” or “angelic beings,” or “heavenly bodies.” as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘Did you offer to me slain animals and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

⁴³তোমরা মোলক দেবতার পূজার তাঁবু, রিফান দেবতার নক্ষত্রের প্রতিমূর্তি বহন করেছিলে৷ পূজা করবার জন্যই তোমরা ঐসব দেবতার মূর্তি গড়েছিলে৷ তাই আমি তোমাদের বাবিলের ওপারে নির্বাসনে পাঠাব৷’ আমোষ 5:25-27

⁴³You took up the tabernacle of Moloch, the star of your god Rephan, the figures which you made to worship. I will carry you away Amos 5:25-27 beyond Babylon.’

⁴⁴‘মরু এলাকায় আমাদের সেই পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছেই সেই সাক্ষ্য তাঁবু ছিল৷ এই পবিত্র তাঁবু তৈরী হয়েছিল সেই ধারায়, য়েভাবে নমুনা দেখিয়ে ঈশ্বর মোশিকে তা করতে বলেছিলেন৷

⁴⁴“Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern that he had seen;

⁴⁵পরবর্তীকালে যিহোশূয় আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের পরিচালিত করলে তাঁরা ভিন্ন জাতির দেশ দখল করলেন৷ আমাদের লোকেরা সেই দেশে প্রবেশ করলে ঈশ্বর সেখানকার লোকদের সেই দেশ ছেড়ে চলে য়েতে বাধ্য করলেন৷ আমাদের লোকেরা এই নতুন দেশে গেলে ঐ তাঁবুও সঙ্গে নিয়ে এলেন৷ পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছ থেকে তাঁরা এই তাঁবু পেয়েছিলেন৷ সেই তাঁবু রাজা দাযূদের সময় পর্যন্ত তাঁদের কাছে ছিল৷

⁴⁵which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered into the possession of the nations, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, to the days of David,

⁴⁶দাযূদ ঈশ্বরের দৃষ্টিতে বিশেষ অনুগ্রহ লাভ করলেন আর যাকোবের ঈশ্বরের জন্য এক গৃহ নির্মাণ করার অনুমতি চাইলেন৷

⁴⁶who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.

⁴⁷কিন্তু দাযূদের ছেলে শলোমন তাঁর জন্য মন্দির নির্মাণ করলেন৷

⁴⁷But Solomon built him a house.

⁴⁸‘কিন্তু যিনি পরমেশ্বর তিনি কখনও মানুষের হাতে তৈরী গৃহে বাস করেন না৷ এবিষয়ে ভাববাদী বলেছেন: ‘প্রভু বলেন,

⁴⁸However, the Most High doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says,

⁴⁹স্বর্গ আমার সিংহাসন৷ পৃথিবী আমার পা রাখার জায়গা৷ তুমি আমার জন্য কিরূপ গৃহ নির্মাণ করবে? আমার বিশ্রামের স্থান কোথায়!

⁴⁹‘heaven is my throne, and the earth a footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build me?’ says the Lord; ‘or what is the place of my rest?

⁵⁰আমার হাতই কি এই বস্তুগুলি নির্মাণ করে নি!’যিশাইয় 66:1-2

⁵⁰Didn’t my hand make all these things?’ Isaiah 66:1-2

⁵¹‘আপনারা একগুঁয়ে লোক! ঈশ্বরকে আপনারা নিজ নিজ হৃদয় সঁপে দেন নি! আপনারা তাঁর কথা শুনতে চান নি! আপনারা সব সময় পবিত্র আত্মা যা বলতে চাইছেন তা প্রতিরোধ করে আসছেন৷ আপনাদের পিতৃপুরুষরা য়েমন করেছিলেন, আপনারাও তাদের মতোই করছেন৷

⁵¹“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do.

⁵²এমন কোন ভাববাদী ছিলেন কি যাকে আপনাদের পিতৃপুরুষেরা নির্য়াতন করেন নি? সেই ধার্মিক ব্যক্তির আগমণের কথা যাঁরা বহুপূর্বে ঘোষণা করেছিলেন আপনাদের পিতৃপুরুষরা তাদেরকে খুন করেছেন; আর এখন আপনারা সেই ধার্মিককে শত্রুর হাতে সঁপে দিয়ে হত্যা করছেন৷

⁵²Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

⁵³আপনারা মোশির বিধি-ব্যবস্থা পেয়েছিলেন, ঈশ্বরই তাঁর স্বর্গদূতদের মাধ্যমে তা দিয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু আপনারা তা পালন করেন নি!’

⁵³You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”

⁵⁴ইহুদী নেতারা স্তিফানের এইসব কথা শুনে প্রচণ্ড রেগে গেল৷ স্তিফানের প্রতি তারা ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে উঠে দাঁতে দাঁত ঘষতে লাগল৷

⁵⁴Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

⁵⁵স্তিফান পবিত্র আত্মায় পূর্ণ হয়ে স্বর্গের দিকে তাকালেন আর দেখলেন ঈশ্বরের মহিমা, দেখলেন যীশু ঈশ্বরের ডানদিকে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন৷

⁵⁵But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

⁵⁶তিনি বললেন, ‘দেখ! আমি দেখছি স্বর্গ খোলা রয়েছে; আর মানবপুত্র ঈশ্বরের ডানদিকে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন!’

⁵⁶and said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

⁵⁷তখন ইহুদী নেতারা জোরে চিত্‌কার করে উঠল, আর নিজেদের কানে হাত চাপা দিল৷ এরপর সবাই মিলে এক সঙ্গে তাঁর দিকে ছুটে গেল৷

⁵⁷But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed at him with one accord.

⁵⁸তারা স্তিফানকে মেরে ফেলার জন্য তাঁকে টানতে টানতে শহর থেকে বাইরে নিয়ে গিয়ে পাথর মারতে লাগল৷ যাঁরা স্তিফানের বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যা সাক্ষ্য দিতে এসেছিল, তারা শৌল নামে এক যুবকের পায়ের কাছে তাদের আলখাল্লা খুলে জমা রাখল৷

⁵⁸They threw him out of the city, and stoned him. The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

⁵⁹তারা যখন স্তিফানকে পাথর মেরে চলেছে তখন তিনি প্রার্থনা করে বললেন, ‘প্রভু যীশু আমার আত্মাকে গ্রহণ কর!’

⁵⁹They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”

⁶⁰এরপর তিনি হাঁটু গেড়ে বসে চিত্‌কার করে বললেন, ‘প্রভু, এঁদের বিরুদ্ধে এই পাপ গন্য করো না!’ এই বলে তিনি মৃত্যুতে ঢলে পড়লেন৷

⁶⁰He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
