¹Karon may usa ka tawo sa mga Fariseo nga ginganlan si Nicodemo, punoan sa mga Judio.

¹And there was a man of the Pharisees, Nicodemus his name, a ruler of the Jews,

²Kini miduol kaniya sa gabii, ug miingon kaniya: Rabbi, nahibalo kami nga ikaw magtutudlo nga nagagikan sa Dios, kay walay tawo nga makabuhat niini nga mga katingalahan nga imong gibuhat, gawas kong ang Dios anaa kaniya.

²this one came unto him by night, and said to him, `Rabbi, we have known that from God thou hast come — a teacher, for no one these signs is able to do that thou dost, if God may not be with him.`

³Si Jesus mitubag ug miingon kaniya: Sa pagkamatuod, sa pagkamatuod, naga-ingon ako kanimo, gawas kong ang tawo magapakatawo pag-usab, dili siya makakita sa gingharian sa Dios.

³Jesus answered and said to him, `Verily, verily, I say to thee, If any one may not be born from above, he is not able to see the reign of God;`

⁴Si Nicodemo miingon kaniya: Unsaon sa tawo ang pagpakatawo kong siya tigulang na? Makasulod ba siya pag-usab sa tiyan sa iyang inahan, ug magpakatawo?

⁴Nicodemus saith unto him, `How is a man able to be born, being old? is he able into the womb of his mother a second time to enter, and to be born?`

⁵Mitubag si Jesus: Sa pagkamatuod, sa pagkamatuod, nagaingon ako kanimo: Gawas kong ang tawo magpakatawo sa tubig ug sa Espiritu, dili siya makasulod sa gingharian sa Dios.

⁵Jesus answered, `Verily, verily, I say to thee, If any one may not be born of water, and the Spirit, he is not able to enter into the reign of God;

⁶Ang gianak sa unod, unod man; ang gianak sa Espiritu, espiritu man.

⁶that which hath been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which hath been born of the Spirit is spirit.

⁷Dili ka mahibulong nga ako nagsulti kanimo: Kinahanglan magpakatawo kamo pag-usab.

⁷`Thou mayest not wonder that I said to thee, It behoveth you to be born from above;

⁸Ang hangin nagahuros ngadto sa buot niyang padulngan, ug hingbatian mo ang iyang kinanaas, apan dili mo mahibaloan kong diin gikan, ug asa siya padulong, ingon niana ang tanan nga gianak sa Espiritu.

⁸the Spirit where he willeth doth blow, and his voice thou dost hear, but thou hast not known whence he cometh, and whither he goeth; thus is every one who hath been born of the Spirit.`

⁹Si Nicodemo mitubag ug miingon kaniya: Unsaon pagkahimo niining mga butanga?

⁹Nicodemus answered and said to him, `How are these things able to happen?`

¹⁰Si Jesus mitubag ug miingon kaniya: Ikaw ba ang magtutudlo sa Israel, ug dili mahibalo niining mga butanga?

¹⁰Jesus answered and said to him, `Thou art the teacher of Israel — and these things thou dost not know!

¹¹Sa pagkamatuod, sa pagkamatuod, nagaingon ako kanimo: Kami nagasulti sa among hingbaloan, ug nagapamatuod sa among hingkit-an; ug kamo wala modawat sa among pagpamatuod.

¹¹`Verily, verily, I say to thee — What we have known we speak, and what we have seen we testify, and our testimony ye do not receive;

¹²Kong nagsulti ako kaninyo sa mga butang nga yutan-on, ug wala kamo motoo, unsaon ninyo pagtoo kong ako magsulti kaninyo sa mga butang nga langitnon?

¹²if the earthly things I said to you, and ye do not believe, how, if I shall say to you the heavenly things, will ye believe?

¹³Ug walay tawo nga nakasaka sa langit, kondili ang nanaug gikan sa langit, ang Anak sa tawo nga anaa sa langit.

¹³and no one hath gone up to the heaven, except he who out of the heaven came down — the Son of Man who is in the heaven.

¹⁴Ug maingon nga si Moises nagpatindog sa halas sa kamingawan, mao usab, kinahanglan nga pagapatindugon ang Anak sa tawo,

¹⁴`And as Moses did lift up the serpent in the wilderness, so it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up,

¹⁵Aron ang tanan nga motoo kaniya dili mawala, kondili may kinabuhi nga walay katapusan.

¹⁵that every one who is believing in him may not perish, but may have life age-during,

¹⁶Kay gihigugma sa Dios ang kalibutan, sa pagkaagi nga gihatag niya ang iyang Anak nga ugtong, aron ang tanan nga motoo kaniya dili mawala, kondili may kinabuhi nga walay katapusan.

¹⁶for God did so love the world, that His Son — the only begotten — He gave, that every one who is believing in him may not perish, but may have life age-during.

¹⁷Kay ang Dios wala magpaanhi sa iyang Anak sa kalibutan aron sa paghukom sa silot sa kalibutan, kondili aron ang kalibutan maluwas tungod kaniya.

¹⁷For God did not send His Son to the world that he may judge the world, but that the world may be saved through him;

¹⁸Ang motoo kaniya dili hinukman sa silot; apan ang dili motoo kaniya ginahukman na sa silot, kay siya wala motoo sa ngalan sa bugtong nga Anak sa Dios.

¹⁸he who is believing in him is not judged, but he who is not believing hath been judged already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

¹⁹Ug kini mao ang paghukom sa silot; nga ang kahayag mianhi sa kalibutan, ug ang mga tawo nahigugma sa kangitngit labi kay sa kahayag; kay ang ilang mga buhat mga dautan.

¹⁹`And this is the judgment, that the light hath come to the world, and men did love the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil;

²⁰Kay ang tanan nga nagabuhat sa dautan nagadumot sa kahayag, ug dili moduol sa kahayag aron dili pagbadlongon ang ilang mga buhat.

²⁰for every one who is doing wicked things hateth the light, and doth not come unto the light, that his works may not be detected;

²¹Apan ang nagabuhat sa kamatuoran moduol sa kahayag, aron ang iyang mga buhat ikapadayag, nga sila nangahimo sa Dios.

²¹but he who is doing the truth doth come to the light, that his works may be manifested, that in God they are having been wrought.`

²²Sa human kining mga butanga, si Jesus ug ang iyang mga tinon-an miadto sa yuta sa Judea, ug didto mipuyo siya uban kanila ug nagabautismo.

²²After these things came Jesus and his disciples to the land of Judea, and there he did tarry with them, and was baptizing;

²³Ug si Juan usab nagabautismo didto sa Enon, haduol sa Salem, kay didto may daghang tubig; ug sila nanagpangabut ug nanagpabautismo.

²³and John was also baptizing in Aenon, nigh to Salem, because there were many waters there, and they were coming and were being baptized —

²⁴Kay si Juan wala pa ikasulod sa bilanggoan.

²⁴for John was not yet cast into the prison —

²⁵Busa miabut ang paglalisay sa mga tinon-an ni Juan ug usa ka Judio mahitungod sa pagkahinlo;

²⁵there arose then a question from the disciples of John with [some] Jews about purifying,

²⁶Ug nangadto sila kang Juan ug miingon kaniya: Rabbi, ang kauban nimo didto sa unahan sa Jordan, ang imong ginapamatud-an, ania karon, hingkaplagan nga nagabautismo, ug ang tanang mga tawo mingdugok kaniya.

²⁶and they came unto John, and said to him, `Rabbi, he who was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou didst testify, lo, this one is baptizing, and all are coming unto him.`

²⁷Si Juan mitubag ug miingon: Ang tawo dili makadawat bisan unsa gawas kong kini ginahatag kaniya gikan sa langit.

²⁷John answered and said, `A man is not able to receive anything, if it may not have been given him from the heaven;

²⁸Kamo sa inyong kaugalingon nagapamatuod kanako, nga ako miingon: Ako dili mao ang Cristo, kondili ako gisugo pag-una kaniya.

²⁸ye yourselves do testify to me that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am having been sent before him;

²⁹Ang nagabaton sa pangasaw-onon mao ang pamanhonon, apan ang abyan sa pamanhonon nagatindog ug nagapatalinghug kaniya, nalipay ug daku gayud tungod sa tingog sa pamanhonon. Tungod niana kining akong kalipay natuman.

²⁹he who is having the bride is bridegroom, and the friend of the bridegroom, who is standing and hearing him, with joy doth rejoice because of the voice of the bridegroom; this, then, my joy hath been fulfilled.

³⁰Siya kinahanglan motubo, apan ako kinahanglan magakubos.

³⁰`Him it behoveth to increase, and me to become less;

³¹Ang nagagikan sa ibabaw, labing hataas sa tanan; ang nagagikan sa yuta, iya sa yuta, ug nagasulti mahitungod sa yuta. Ang nagagikan sa langit labing hataas sa tanan.

³¹he who from above is coming is above all; he who is from the earth, from the earth he is, and from the earth he speaketh; he who from the heaven is coming is above all.

³²Ang iyang hingkit-an ug hing-dunggan, kana mao ang iyang gipamatud-an, ug walay tawo nga magadawat sa iyang pagpamatuod.

³²`And what he hath seen and heard this he doth testify, and his testimony none receiveth;

³³Ang midawat sa iyang pagpamatuod, mibutang sa iyang timaan niini, nga ang Dios matuod.

³³he who is receiving his testimony did seal that God is true;

³⁴Kay ang gisugo sa Dios nagasulti sa mga pulong sa Dios, kay ang Dios wala magahatag kaniya sa Espiritu pinaagi sa tinaksanay.

³⁴for he whom God sent, the sayings of God he speaketh; for not by measure doth God give the Spirit;

³⁵Ang Amahan nahagugma sa Anak ug nagatugyan sa tanang mga butang ngadto sa iyang mga kamot.

³⁵the Father doth love the Son, and all things hath given into his hand;

³⁶Ang motoo sa Anak may kinabuhi nga walay katapusan, apan ang dili magatuman sa Anak dili makakaplag sa kinabuhi, kondili ang kaligutgut sa Dios pabilin sa ibabaw niya.

³⁶he who is believing in the Son, hath life age-during; and he who is not believing the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God doth remain upon him.`
