¹Ug nahitabo niadtong mga adlawa sa diha nga ang mga maghuhukom nanaghukom, nga miabut ang gutom sa yuta, ug dihay usa ka tawo sa Beth-lehem sa Juda nga miadto sa pagpuyo sa yuta sa Moab, siya, ug ang iyang asawa, ug ang iyang duruha ka anak nga lalake.

¹And it cometh to pass, in the days of the judging of the judges, that there is a famine in the land, and there goeth a man from Beth-Lehem-Judah to sojourn in the fields of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

²Ug ang ngalan sa tawo mao si Elimelech, ug ang ngalan sa iyang asawa si Noemi, ug ang ngalan sa iyang duruha ka anak nga lalake, mao si Mahalon ug si Chelion, mga Ephratehanon sa Beth-lehem sa Juda. Ug nangadto sila sa yuta sa Moab ug mingpabilin didto.

²And the name of the man [is] Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites from Beth-Lehem-Judah; and they come into the fields of Moab, and are there.

³Ug si Elimelech ang bana ni Noemi namatay; ug siya nahibilin, ug ang iyang duruha ka anak nga lalake.

³And Elimelech husband of Naomi dieth, and she is left, she and her two sons;

⁴Ug nangasawa sila sa kababayen-an sa Moab; ang ngalan sa usa mao si Orpha, ug ang ngalan sa usa mao si Ruth: ug sila namuyo didto duol sa napulo ka tuig.

⁴and they take to them wives, Moabitesses: the name of the one [is] Orpah, and the name of the second Ruth; and they dwell there about ten years.

⁵Ug nangamatay silang duruha si Mahalon ug si Chelion; ug si Noemi gitalikdan sa iyang duruha ka anak ug sa iyang bana.

⁵And they die also, both of them — Mahlon and Chilion — and the woman is left of her two children and of her husband.

⁶Unya siya mibangon kuyog sa iyang mga binalaye, aron siya makapauli gikan sa yuta sa Moab; kay siya nakadungog didto sa yuta sa Moab kong giunsa pagdu-aw ni Jehova ang iyang katawohan pinaagi sa paghatag kanila ug tinapay.

⁶And she riseth, she and her daughters-in-law, and turneth back from the fields of Moab, for she hath heard in the fields of Moab that God hath looked after His people, — to give to them bread.

⁷Ug siya migikan sa dapit nga iyang gipuy-an ug ang iyang duruha ka mga binalaye kuyog kaniya; ug sila mingpadayon sa pagpauli ngadto sa yuta sa Juda.

⁷And she goeth out from the place where she hath been, and her two daughters-in-law with her, and they go in the way to turn back unto the land of Judah.

⁸Ug si Noemi miingon sa iyang duruha ka mga binalaye: Lumakaw kamo, pauli ang tagsatagsa kaninyo ngadto sa balay sa iyang inahan: si Jehova malooy kaninyo, sama sa inyong gihimo sa mga patay, ug kanako.

⁸And Naomi saith to her two daughters-in-law, `Go, turn back, each to the house of her mother; Jehovah doth with you kindness as ye have done with the dead, and with me;

⁹Itugot unta ni Jehova nga kamo makakaplag ug pahulay, ang tagsatagsa kaninyo sa balay sa iyang bana. Unya iyang gihagkan sila, ug ilang gipatugbaw ang ilang tingog, ug nanghilak sila .

⁹Jehovah doth grant to you, and find ye rest each in the house of her husband;` and she kisseth them, and they lift up their voice and weep.

¹⁰Ug sila miingon kaniya: Dili, apan kami mopauli hinoon uban kanimo ngadto sa imong katawohan.

¹⁰And they say to her, `Surely with thee we go back to thy people.`

¹¹Ug si Noemi mitubag: Pauli kamo, mga anak ko. Nganong mouban kamo kanako? May lain pa bang mga bata nga lalake sa akong taguangkan aron sila mainyong mga bana?

¹¹And Naomi saith, `Turn back, my daughters; why do ye go with me? are there yet to me sons in my bowels that they have been to you for husbands?

¹²Pamauli kamo mga anak ko, padayon kamo; kay ako tigulang na kaayo nga mobaton pa ug bana. Kong ako moingon, ako may paglaum pa, kong ako makabaton usab ug usa ka bana karong gabii, ug manganak usab ug mga lalake;

¹²Turn back, my daughters, go, for I am too aged to be to a husband; though I had said, There is for me hope, also, I have been to-night to a husband, and also I have borne sons:

¹³Mohulat ba kamo kanila hangtud nga sila mangadagku? Mohulat ba kamo kanila nga walay bana? ayaw, mga anak ko; kay kana nakapayugot kanako sa hilabihan tungod kaninyo, kay ang kamot ni Jehova gibakyaw batok kanako.

¹³for them do ye wait till that they grow up? for them do ye shut yourselves up, not to be to a husband? nay, my daughters, for more bitter to me than to you, for the hand of Jehovah hath gone out against me.`

¹⁴Ug gipatugbaw nila ang ilang tingog, ug nanghilak pag-usab: ug si Orpha mihalok sa iyang ugangan nga babaye; apan si Ruth mipabilin kaniya.

¹⁴And they lift up their voice, and weep again, and Orpah kisseth her mother-in-law, and Ruth hath cleaved to her.

¹⁵Ug siya miingon: Ania karon, ang imong bilas nga babaye mibalik ngadto sa iyang katawohan, ug sa iyang mga dios; bumalik ka sunod sa imong bilas nga babaye.

¹⁵And she saith, `Lo, thy sister-in-law hath turned back unto her people, and unto her god, turn thou back after thy sister-in-law.`

¹⁶Ug si Ruth miingon: Ayaw ako paghangyoa aron sa pagbiya kanimo, ug sa pagbalik gikan sa pagsunod kanimo: kay bisan asa ikaw moadto, ako moadto; ug bisan asa ikaw mopuyo, adto ako mopuyo; ang imong katawohan mamahimo nga akong katawohan, ug ang imong Dios mamahimo nga akong Dios;

¹⁶And Ruth saith, `Urge me not to leave thee — to turn back from after thee; for whither thou goest I go, and where thou lodgest I lodge; thy people [is] my people, and thy God my God.

¹⁷Asa ikaw mamatay, adto ako magpakamatay, ug didto ako igalubong: si Jehova magahimo sa ingon niana kanako, ug labaw pa usab, kong may laing butang gawas sa kamatayon nga magapabulag kanimo ug kanako.

¹⁷Where thou diest I die, and there I am buried; thus doth Jehovah to me, and thus doth He add — for death itself doth part between me and thee.`

¹⁸Sa nakita niya nga siya hugot gayud nga mokuyog kaniya, mihunong siya sa pagsulti niini kaniya.

¹⁸And she seeth that she is strengthening herself to go with her, and she ceaseth to speak unto her;

¹⁹Busa silang duruha nanlakaw hangtud nga nanghiabut sila sa Beth-lehem. Ug nahitabo sa pag-abut nila sa Beth-lehem nga ang tibook ciudad naukay mahitungod kanila, ug sila miingon: Mao ba kini si Noemi?

¹⁹and they go both of them till their coming in to Beth-Lehem; and it cometh to pass at their coming in to Beth-Lehem, that all the city is moved at them, and they say, `Is this Naomi?`

²⁰Ug siya miingon kanila: Ayaw ako pagtawga nga si Noemi, tawga ako nga Mara; kay ang Makagagahum nagpaantus kanako sa hilabihan nga kapaitan.

²⁰And she saith unto them, `Call me not Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly to me,

²¹Ako mihalin nga hupong, ug si Jehova nagdala kanako nganhi sa balay pag-usab nga walay dala; ngano nga ako tawgon ninyo nga si Noemi, sanglit si Jehova nagpamatuod batok kanako, ug ang Makagagahum nagsakit kanako?

²¹I went out full, and empty hath Jehovah brought me back, why do ye call me Naomi, and Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath done evil to me?`

²²Busa si Noemi mibalik, ug si Ruth nga Moabihanon, iyang binalaye, nga mipauli uban kaniya gikan sa yuta sa Moab; ug sila mipadulong ngadto sa Beth-lehem sa sinugdan sa pagpangani sa mga cebada.

²²And Naomi turneth back, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who hath turned back from the fields of Moab, and they have come in to Beth-Lehem at the commencement of barley-harvest.
