¹Ug mipuyo ang Israel sa Sitim; ug ang katawohan mingsugod sa pagpakighilawas uban sa mga anak nga babaye ni Moab:

¹And Israel abode in Shittim; and the people began to commit fornication with the daughters of Moab.

²Kay ilang gitawag ang katawohan ngadto sa mga halad sa ilang mga dios; ug ang katawohan mingkaon, ug mingyukbo sa ilang mga dios.

²And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.

³Ug ang Israel mikuyog sa iyang kaugalingon ngadto kang Baal-Peor: ug ang kaligutgut ni Jehova misilaub batok sa Israel.

³And Israel joined himself to Baal-Peor; and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

⁴Ug si Jehova miingon kang Moises: Kuhaon mo ang tanang mga dagkung tawo sa katawohan, ug sila bitayon mo kang Jehova sa atubangan sa nawong sa adlaw, aron ang mabangis nga kaligutgut ni Jehova magapahalayo gikan sa Israel.

⁴And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may be turned away from Israel.

⁵Ug si Moises miingon sa mga maghuhukom sa Israel: Pamatyon ninyo ang tanan nga mingtipon ngadto kang Baal-Peor, ang tagsatagsa sa iyang kaugalingong tawo.

⁵And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Slay every one his men that have joined themselves to Baal-Peor.

⁶Ug ania karon, usa sa mga anak sa Israel miabut ug nagdala sa usa ka babaye nga Madianhon ngadto sa iyang mga igsoon, diha sa mga mata ni Moises, ug diha sa mga mata sa tibook nga katilingban sa mga anak sa Israel, samtang sila nanagbakho pa didto sa pultahan sa balong-balong nga pagatiguman.

⁶And behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought a Midianitish woman to his brethren, in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of the whole assembly of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the entrance of the tent of meeting.

⁷Ug sa nakita siya ni Pineas, ang anak nga lalake ni Eleazar, ang anak nga lalake ni Aaron ang sacerdote, mitindog siya sa taliwala sa katilingban ug mikuha ug usa ka bangkaw sa iyang kamot;

⁷And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose up from among the assembly, and took a javelin in his hand,

⁸Ug misunod siya sa paglakaw niadtong tawo sa Israel ngadto sa pabiyon, ug giduslak niya silang duruha, ang tawo sa Israel, ug ang babaye nga Madianhon nga gilapsan sa iyang lawas. Sa ingon niana mihunong ang kamatay sa mga anak sa Israel.

⁸and he went after the man of Israel into the tent-chamber, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. And the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

⁹Ug kadtong mga nangamatay pinaagi sa hampak may kaluhaan ug upat ka libo.

⁹And those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁰Ug si Jehova misulti kang Moises, nga nagaingon:

¹⁰And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

¹¹Si Pineas, ang anak nga lalake ni Eleazar, ang anak nga lalake ni Aaron ang sacerdote, nagpahilayo sa akong kaligutgut gikan sa mga anak sa Israel, nga niana siya nangabugho uban sa akong pangabugho sa taliwala nila, sa ingon niana mao nga wala ko pag-ut-uta ang mga anak sa Israel sa akong pagpangabugho.

¹¹Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

¹²Busa iingon mo: Ania karon, nagahatag ako kaniya sa akong tugon sa pakigdait.

¹²Therefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace!

¹³Ug kini mahimo alang kaniya, ug sa iyang kaliwat nga mosunod kaniya, ang tugon sa pagka-sacerdote nga walay katapusan; tungod kay siya adunay kasilag alang sa Dios, ug nagbuhat ug pagtabon sa sala alang sa mga anak sa Israel.

¹³And he shall have it, and his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

¹⁴Karon ang ngalan niadtong tawo sa Israel nga gipatay, siya nga gipatay uban sa babaye nga Madianhon, mao si Simri, ang anak nga lalake ni Salu, usa ka principe sa usa ka balay sa amahan sa taliwala sa banay ni Simeon.

¹⁴And the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, the prince of a father's house of the Simeonites.

¹⁵Ug ang ngalan sa babaye nga Madianhon nga gipatay, mao si Cozbi, ang anak nga babaye ni Zur; si Cozbi punoan sa katawohan sa usa ka panimalay sa Madian.

¹⁵And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was tribal head of a father's house in Midian.

¹⁶Ug si Jehova misulti kang Moises, nga nagaingon:

¹⁶And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

¹⁷Sakiton ninyo ang mga Madianhon, ug pamatyon ninyo sila;

¹⁷Harass the Midianites, and smite them,

¹⁸Kay sila nanagpalagut kaninyo uban sa ilang mga lalang, nga pinaagi niini sila nanaglimbong kaninyo mahatungod sa butang ni Peor, ug mahatungod sa butang ni Cozbi, ang anak nga babaye sa principe sa Madian, ilang igsoon nga babaye, nga gipatay sa adlaw sa kamatay mahitungod sa butang ni Peor.

¹⁸for they have harassed you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague because of the matter of Peor.
