¹Došavši u Jeruzalem, skupi sav dom Judin i Benjaminov, sto i osamdeset tisuća vrsnih ratnika, da udare na Izraela i da Roboamu vrate kraljevstvo.

¹And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

²Ali dođe Jahvina riječ Božjem čovjeku Šemaji:

²But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

³"Kaži Salomonovu sinu Roboamu, judejskomu kralju, i svim Izraelcima u Judinu i Benjaminovu plemenu:

³Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

⁴Ovako veli Jahve: 'Ne idite se tući s braćom! Neka se svatko vrati svojoj kući, jer je ovo poteklo od mene.'" I oni poslušaše riječ Jahvinu, vratiše se i ne udariše na Jeroboama.

⁴Thus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren; return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

⁵Roboam, stolujući u Jeruzalemu, poče dizati tvrde gradove po Judeji.

⁵And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

⁶Tako je sagradio Betlehem, Etam, Tekou,

⁶And he built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

⁷Bet Sur, Sokon, Adulam,

⁷and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

⁸Gat, Maresu, Zif,

⁸and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

⁹Adorajim, Lakiš, Azeku,

⁹and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

¹⁰Soru, Ajalon i Hebron, tvrde gradove u Judinu i Benjaminovu plemenu.

¹⁰and Zorah, and Ajalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

¹¹Utvrdivši gradove, postavi im zapovjednike i dovuče zalihe hrane, ulja i vina;

¹¹And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oil and wine;

¹²u svaki pojedini grad stavi štitova i kopalja i utvrdi ih vrlo jako. Tako je on imao Judino i Benjaminovo pleme.

¹²and in every several city, targets and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin were his.

¹³Svećenici i leviti, koji su bili po svem Izraelu, pristupiše k njemu iz svih krajeva.

¹³And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their districts;

¹⁴Leviti ostaviše pašnjake i posjed te otiđoše u Judeju i Jeruzalem, jer ih je bio odbacio Jeroboam i njegovi sinovi da ne obavljaju svećeničku službu Jahvi,

¹⁴for the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah;

¹⁵a postavio je svećenike za uzvišice, za jarce i za telad koju je napravio.

¹⁵and he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the he-goats and for the calves that he had made.

¹⁶Za njima su iz svih izraelskih plemena dolazili u Jeruzalem da žrtvuju Jahvi, Bogu svojih otaca, oni koji su srcem tražili Jahvu, Boga Izraelova.

¹⁶-- And after them, those out of all the tribes of Israel that set their heart to seek Jehovah the God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah the God of their fathers.

¹⁷Tako su utvrdili judejsko kraljevstvo i osokolili Salomonova sina Roboama za tri godine, jer su tri godine živjeli poput Davida i Salomona.

¹⁷And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years; for during three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

¹⁸Roboam je sebi uzeo za žemu Mahalatu, kćer Davidova sina Jerimota, i Abihajilu, kćer Jišajeva sina Eliaba,

¹⁸And Rehoboam took Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David as wife, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

¹⁹koja mu rodi sinove: Jeuša, Šemarju i Zahama.

¹⁹And she bore him children: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

²⁰A poslije nje oženio se Abšalomovom kćerju Maakom, koja mu rodi Abiju, Etaja, Zizu i Šelomita.

²⁰And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

²¹Roboam je ljubio Abšalomovu kćer Maaku više od svih svojih žena i inoča, iako je uzeo osamnaest žena i šezdeset inoča i rodio dvadeset i osam sinova i šezdeset kćeri.

²¹And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

²²I Roboam postavi Maakina sina Abiju za poglavara i kneza nad njegovom braćom, jer ga je naumio postaviti za kralja.

²²And Rehoboam established Abijah the son of Maachah at the head, to be ruler among his brethren; for [he thought] to make him king.

²³I, mudro radeći, razmjesti sinove po svim judejskim i Benjaminovim krajevima, po svim tvrdim gradovima, davši im hrane izobila i poženivši ih sa mnogo žena.

²³And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance. And he desired [for them] a multitude of wives.
