¹I odpovídaje Ježíš, mluvil jim opět v podobenstvích, řka:

¹Jesus answered and spoke again in parables to them, saying,

²Podobno jest království nebeské člověku králi, kterýž učinil svadbu synu svému.

² “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

³I poslal služebníky své, aby povolali pozvaných na svadbu; a oni nechtěli přijíti.

³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.

⁴Opět poslal jiné služebníky, řka: Povězte pozvaným: Aj, oběd můj připravil jsem, volové moji a krmný dobytek zbit jest, a všecko hotovo. Pojďtež na svadbu.

⁴ Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast!”’

⁵Ale oni nedbavše na to, odešli, jiný do vsi své a jiný po kupectví svém.

⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,

⁶Jiní pak zjímavše služebníky jeho a posměch jim učinivše, zmordovali.

⁶ and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

⁷A uslyšav to král, rozhněval se; a poslav vojska svá, zhubil vražedníky ty a město jejich zapálil.

⁷ When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

⁸Tedy řekl služebníkům svým: Svadba zajisté hotova jest, ale ti, kteříž pozváni byli, nebyli hodni.

⁸ “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.

⁹Protož jděte na rozcestí, a kteréžkoli naleznete, zovtež na svadbu.

⁹ Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.’

¹⁰I vyšedše služebníci ti na cesty, shromáždili všecky, kteréžkoli nalezli, zlé i dobré. A naplněna jest svadba hodovníky.

¹⁰ Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

¹¹Tedy všed král, aby pohleděl na hodovníky, uzřel tam člověka neoděného rouchem svadebním.

¹¹ But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing,

¹²I řekl jemu: Příteli, kteraks ty sem všel, nemaje roucha svadebního? A on oněměl.

¹² and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless.

¹³Tedy řekl král služebníkům: Svížíce ruce jeho i nohy, vezměte ho, a uvrztež jej do temností zevnitřních. Tamť bude pláč a škřipení zubů.

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’

¹⁴Nebo mnoho jest povolaných, ale málo vyvolených.

¹⁴ For many are called, but few chosen.”

¹⁵Tedy odšedše farizeové, radili se, jak by polapili jej v řeči.

¹⁵Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.

¹⁶I poslali k němu učedlníky své s herodiány, řkouce: Mistře, víme, že pravdomluvný jsi a cestě Boží v pravdě učíš a nedbáš na žádného; nebo nepatříš na osobu lidskou.

¹⁶They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you aren’t partial to anyone.

¹⁷Protož pověz nám, co se tobě zdá: Sluší-li daň dáti císaři, čili nic?

¹⁷Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

¹⁸Znaje pak Ježíš zlost jejich, řekl: Co mne pokoušíte, pokrytci?

¹⁸But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?

¹⁹Ukažte mi peníz daně. A oni podali mu peníze.

¹⁹ Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius.

²⁰I řekl jim: Čí jest tento obraz a svrchu napsání?

²⁰He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”

²¹Řekli mu: Císařův. Tedy dí jim: Dejtež, co jest císařova, císaři, a co jest Božího, Bohu.

²¹They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

²²To uslyšavše, divili se, a opustivše jej, odešli.

²²When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

²³V ten den přišli k němu saduceové, kteříž praví, že není z mrtvých vstání. I otázali se ho,

²³On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,

²⁴Řkouce: Mistře, Mojžíš pověděl: Umřel-li by kdo, nemaje dětí, aby bratr jeho právem švagrovství pojal ženu jeho a vzbudil símě bratru svému.

²⁴saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed for his brother.’

²⁵I bylo u nás sedm bratrů. První pojav ženu, umřel, a nemaje semene, zůstavil ženu svou bratru svému.

²⁵Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother.

²⁶Takž podobně i druhý, i třetí, až do sedmého.

²⁶In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

²⁷Nejposléze pak po všech umřela i žena.

²⁷After them all, the woman died.

²⁸Protož při vzkříšení kterého z těch sedmi bude žena? Nebo všickni ji měli.

²⁸In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”

²⁹I odpověděv Ježíš, řekl jim: Bloudíte, neznajíce Písem ani moci Boží.

²⁹But Jesus answered them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

³⁰Však při vzkříšení ani se nebudou ženiti ani vdávati, ale budou jako andělé Boží v nebi.

³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven.

³¹O vzkříšení pak mrtvých zdaliž jste nečtli, co jest vám povědíno od Boha, kterýž takto dí:

³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

³²Já jsem Bůh Abrahamův a Bůh Izákův a Bůh Jákobův; a Bůhť není Bůh mrtvých, ale živých.

³² ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ Exodus 3:6 God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

³³A slyševše to zástupové, divili se učení jeho.

³³When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

³⁴Farizeové pak uslyšavše, že by k mlčení přivedl saducejské, sešli se v jedno.

³⁴But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.

³⁵I otázal se ho jeden z nich zákoník nějaký, pokoušeje ho, a řka:

³⁵One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.

³⁶Mistře, které jest přikázání veliké v Zákoně?

³⁶“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

³⁷I řekl mu Ježíš: Milovati budeš Pána Boha svého z celého srdce svého a ze vší duše své a ze vší mysli své.

³⁷Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ Deuteronomy 6:5

³⁸To jest přední a veliké přikázání.

³⁸ This is the first and great commandment.

³⁹Druhé pak jest podobné tomu: Milovati budeš bližního svého jako sebe samého.

³⁹ A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Leviticus 19:18

⁴⁰Na těch dvou přikázáních všecken Zákon záleží i Proroci.

⁴⁰ The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

⁴¹A když se sešli farizeové, otázal se jich Ježíš,

⁴¹Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

⁴²Řka: Co se vám zdá o Kristu? Čí jest syn? Řkou jemu: Davidův.

⁴²saying, “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “Of David.”

⁴³Dí jim: Kterakž pak David v Duchu nazývá ho Pánem, řka:

⁴³He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

⁴⁴Řekl Pán Pánu mému: Seď na pravici mé, dokavadž nepodložím nepřátel tvých, aby byli za podnože noh tvých?

⁴⁴ ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?’ Psalm 110:1

⁴⁵Poněvadž tedy David Pánem ho nazývá, i kterakž syn jeho jest?

⁴⁵ “If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”

⁴⁶A nižádný nemohl jemu odpovědíti slova, aniž se odvážil kdo více od toho dne jeho se nač tázati.

⁴⁶No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forth.
