¹ Dyma ddrwg a welais dan yr haul, ac y mae'n flinder ar bobl:

¹There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:

² un wedi cael cyfoeth, meddiannau ac anrhydedd gan Dduw, heb fod yn brin o ddim a ddymunai, ac eto heb gael gan Dduw y gallu i'w mwynhau, ond dieithryn yn hytrach yn cael mwynhad ohonynt. Y mae hyn yn wagedd ac yn gystudd blin.

²A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

³ Pe byddai rhywun yn rhiant i gant o blant, yn byw am flynyddoedd lawer ac yn cael oes hir, ond heb allu mwynhau daioni bywyd na chael ei gladdu, yna dywedaf ei bod yn well ar yr erthyl nag arno ef.

³If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.

⁴ Oherwydd y mae'r erthyl yn dod mewn gwagedd ac yn mynd ymaith mewn tywyllwch, lle cuddir ei enw;

⁴For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.

⁵ eto caiff hwn, er na welodd yr haul na gwybod am ddim, fwy o lonyddwch na'r llall,

⁵Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.

⁶ hyd yn oed pe byddai hwnnw'n byw am fil o flynyddoedd ddwywaith drosodd, ond heb brofi daioni. Onid ydynt i gyd yn mynd i'r un lle?

⁶Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?

⁷ Y mae holl lafur pobl ar gyfer eu genau, ond eto ni ddiwellir eu chwant.

⁷All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

⁸ Pa fantais sydd gan y doeth ar y ff�l, neu gan y tlawd a u373?yr sut i ymddwyn yng ngu373?ydd pobl?

⁸For what hath the wise more than the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?

⁹ Gwell gweld �'r llygaid na blys anniwall. Y mae hyn hefyd yn wagedd ac yn ymlid gwynt.

⁹Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

¹⁰ Y mae'r hyn sydd eisoes yn bod yn hysbys, ac fe wyddys beth yw pobl; ni allant ddadlau ag un cryfach na hwy.

¹⁰That which hath been is named already, and it is known that it is man: neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he.

¹¹ Y mae amlhau geiriau yn amlhau gwagedd; a pha fantais sydd i neb?

¹¹Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?

¹² Pwy a u373?yr beth sydd dda i neb yng nghyfnod byr ei fywyd gwag, a dreulia fel cysgod? Pwy all ddweud wrtho beth dan yr haul a ddaw ar ei �l?

¹²For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
