Young`s Literal Translation

1 Samuel

4

1 Yr oedd gair Samuel yn air i Israel gyfan. Aeth Israel i ryfel yn erbyn y Philistiaid a gwersyllu ger Eben-eser, a'r Philistiaid yn gwersyllu yn Affec.
1And the word of Samuel is to all Israel, and Israel goeth out to meet the Philistines for battle, and they encamp by Eben-Ezer, and the Philistines have encamped in Aphek,
2 Wedi i'r Philistiaid drefnu eu byddin yn erbyn Israel, aeth yn frwydr, a threchwyd Israel gan y Philistiaid; lladdwyd tua phedair mil o'r fyddin ar faes y gad.
2and the Philistines set themselves in array to meet Israel, and the battle spreadeth itself, and Israel is smitten before the Philistines, and they smite among the ranks in the field about four thousand men.
3 Pan ddychwelodd y bobl i'r gwersyll, holodd henuriaid Israel, "Pam y trawodd yr ARGLWYDD ni heddiw o flaen y Philistiaid? Cymerwn atom o Seilo arch cyfamod yr ARGLWYDD, a doed i'n plith i'n hachub o law ein gelynion."
3And the people cometh in unto the camp, and the elders of Israel say, `Why hath Jehovah smitten us to-day before the Philistines? we take unto us from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and it cometh into our midst, and He doth save us out of the hand of our enemies.`
4 Anfonodd y bobl i Seilo a chymryd oddi yno arch cyfamod ARGLWYDD y Lluoedd sydd 'i orsedd ar y cerwbiaid. Yno hefyd, gydag arch cyfamod Duw, yr oedd dau fab Eli, Hoffni a Phinees.
4And the people sendeth to Shiloh, and they take up thence the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of Hosts, inhabiting the cherubs, and there [are] two sons of Eli, with the ark of the covenant of God, Hophni and Phinehas.
5 Pan gyrhaeddodd arch cyfamod yr ARGLWYDD i'r gwersyll, gwaeddodd yr Israeliaid i gyd bloedd uchel nes bod y ddaear yn datseinio.
5And it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah unto the camp, that all Israel shout — a great shout — and the earth is moved.
6 Clywodd y Philistiaid y floedd a gofyn, "Beth yw'r floedd fawr hon a glywir yng ngwersyll yr Hebreaid?" Wedi iddynt ddeall mai arch cyfamod yr ARGLWYDD oedd wedi cyrraedd i'r gwersyll,
6And the Philistines hear the noise of the shouting, and say, `What [is] the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews?` and they perceive that the ark of Jehovah hath come in unto the camp.
7 ofnodd y Philistiaid, oherwydd dweud yr oeddent, "Daeth duw i'r gwersyll." Ac meddent, "Gwae ni! Oherwydd ni fu peth fel hyn erioed o'r blaen.
7And the Philistines are afraid, for they said, `God hath come in unto the camp;` and they say, `Wo to us, for there hath not been like this heretofore.
8 Gwae ni! Pwy a'n gwared ni o law'r duwiau nerthol hyn? Dyma'r duwiau a drawodd yr Eifftiaid phob math o bla yn yr anialwch.
8Wo to us, who doth deliver us out of the hand of these honourable gods? these [are] the gods who are smiting the Egyptians with every plague in the wilderness.
9 Byddwch yn gryf a gwrol, O Philistiaid, rhag i chwi fynd yn gaeth i'r Hebreaid fel y buont hwy i chwi; ie, byddwch yn wrol ac ymladd."
9Strengthen yourselves, and become men, O Philistines, lest ye do service to Hebrews, as they have done to you — then ye have become men, and have fought.`
10 Ymladdodd y Philistiaid, a threchwyd Israel, a ffodd pawb adref. Bu lladdfa fawr iawn, a syrthiodd deng mil ar hugain o wu375?r traed Israel.
10And the Philistines fight, and Israel is smitten, and they flee each to his tents, and the blow is very great, and there fall of Israel thirty thousand footmen;
11 Hefyd cymerwyd arch Duw, a bu farw Hoffni a Phinees, dau fab Eli.
11and the ark of God hath been taken, and the two sons of Eli have died, Hophni and Phinehas.
12 Y diwrnod hwnnw rhedodd un o wu375?r Benjamin o'r frwydr a chyrraedd Seilo 'i ddillad wedi eu rhwygo a phridd ar ei ben.
12And a man of Benjamin runneth out of the ranks, and cometh into Shiloh, on that day, and his long robes [are] rent, and earth on his head;
13 Pan ddaeth, dyna lle'r oedd Eli yn eistedd ar sedd gerllaw'r ffordd yn disgwyl, am ei fod yn bryderus iawn am arch Duw. Pan ddaeth y dyn a chyhoeddi'r newydd yn y ddinas, bu llefain drwy'r ddinas.
13and he cometh in, and lo, Eli is sitting on the throne by the side of the way, watching, for his heart hath been trembling for the ark of God, and the man hath come in to declare [it] in the city, and all the city crieth out.
14 A phan glywodd Eli su373?n y llefain, holodd, "Beth yw'r cynnwrf yma?" Yna brysiodd y dyn, a dod ac adrodd yr hanes wrth Eli.
14And Eli heareth the noise of the cry, and saith, `What — the noise of this tumult!` And the man hasted, and cometh in, and declareth to Eli.
15 Yr oedd Eli'n naw deg ac wyth oed, a'i lygaid wedi pylu fel na fedrai weld.
15And Eli is a son of ninety and eight years, and his eyes have stood, and he hath not been able to see.
16 A dywedodd y dyn wrth Eli, "Myfi sydd wedi dod o'r frwydr; heddiw y ffois o'r gad." Yna gofynnodd iddo, "Beth yw'r newydd, fy machgen?"
16And the man saith unto Eli, `I [am] he who hath come out of the ranks, and I out of the ranks have fled to-day;` and he saith, `What hath been the matter, my son?`
17 Atebodd y cennad, "Ffodd Israel o flaen y Philistiaid, a bu lladdfa fawr ymysg y bobl hefyd; y mae dy ddau fab, Hoffni a Phinees wedi marw, ac arch Duw wedi ei chymryd."
17And he who is bearing tidings answereth and saith, `Israel hath fled before the Philistines, and also a great slaughter hath been among the people, and also thy two sons have died — Hophni and Phinehas — and the ark of God hath been captured.`
18 Pan soniodd am arch Duw, syrthiodd Eli yn wysg ei gefn oddi ar y sedd gerllaw'r porth, a thorri ei wddf a marw, oherwydd yr oedd yn hen ac yn ddyn trwm. Yr oedd wedi barnu Israel am ddeugain mlynedd.
18And it cometh to pass, at his mentioning the ark of God, that he falleth from off the throne backward, by the side of the gate, and his neck is broken, and he dieth, for the man [is] old and heavy, and he hath judged Israel forty years.
19 Yr oedd ei ferch-yng-nghyfraith, gwraig Phinees, yn feichiog ac yn agos i esgor. Pan glywodd hi'r newydd fod arch Duw wedi ei chymryd a bod ei thad-yng-nghyfraith a'i gu373?r wedi marw, crymodd ac esgorodd, oherwydd daeth ei gwewyr arni.
19And his daughter-in-law, wife of Phinehas, [is] pregnant, about to bear, and she heareth the report of the taking of the ark of God, that her father-in-law and her husband have died, and she boweth, and beareth, for her pains have turned upon her.
20 Ac fel yr oedd hi'n marw, dywedodd y merched oedd o'i chwmpas, "Paid ag ofni, rwyt ti wedi esgor ar fab." Nid atebodd hi na chymryd sylw,
20And at the time of her death, when the women who are standing by her say, `Fear not, for a son thou hast borne,` she hath not answered, nor set her heart [to it];
21 ond enwi'r bachgen, Ichabod, a dweud, "Ciliodd gogoniant o Israel," oherwydd colli arch Duw a'i thad-yng-nghyfraith a'i gu373?r.
21and she calleth the youth I-Chabod, saying, `Honour hath removed from Israel,` because of the taking of the ark of God, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
22 Dyna a ddywedodd, "Ciliodd gogoniant o Israel, oherwydd cymryd arch Duw."
22And she saith, `Honour hath removed from Israel, for the ark of God hath been taken.`
