¹ Aeth Jacob i'w daith, a chyfarfu angylion Duw ag ef;

¹And Jacob hath gone on his way, and messengers of God come upon him;

² a phan welodd hwy, dywedodd Jacob, "Dyma wersyll Duw." Felly enwodd y lle hwnnw Mahanaim.

²and Jacob saith, when he hath seen them, `This [is] the camp of God;` and he calleth the name of that place `Two Camps.`

³ Yna anfonodd Jacob negeswyr o'i flaen at ei frawd Esau i wlad Seir yn nhir Edom,

³And Jacob sendeth messengers before him unto Esau his brother, towards the land of Seir, the field of Edom,

⁴ a gorchymyn iddynt, "Dywedwch fel hyn wrth f'arglwydd Esau: 'Fel hyn y mae dy was Jacob yn dweud: B�m yn aros gyda Laban, ac yno y b�m hyd yn awr;

⁴and commandeth them, saying, `Thus do ye say to my lord, to Esau: Thus said thy servant Jacob, With Laban I have sojourned, and I tarry until now;

⁵ y mae gennyf ychen, asynnod, defaid, gweision a morynion, ac anfonais i fynegi i'm harglwydd, er mwyn imi gael ffafr yn dy olwg.'"

⁵and I have ox, and ass, flock, and man-servant, and maid-servant, and I send to declare to my lord, to find grace in his eyes.`

⁶ Dychwelodd y negeswyr at Jacob a dweud, "Daethom at dy frawd Esau, ac y mae ef yn dod i'th gyfarfod gyda phedwar cant o ddynion."

⁶And the messengers turn back unto Jacob, saying, `We came in unto thy brother, unto Esau, and he also is coming to meet thee, and four hundred men with him;`

⁷ Yna daeth ofn mawr ar Jacob, ac yr oedd mewn cyfyngder; rhannodd y bobl oedd gydag ef, a'r defaid, ychen a chamelod, yn ddau wersyll,

⁷and Jacob feareth exceedingly, and is distressed, and he divideth the people who [are] with him, and the flock, and the herd, and the camels, into two camps,

⁸ gan feddwl, "Os daw Esau at y naill wersyll a'i daro, yna caiff y llall ddianc."

⁸and saith, `If Esau come in unto the one camp, and have smitten it — then the camp which is left hath been for an escape.`

⁹ A dywedodd Jacob, "O Dduw fy nhadau, Duw Abraham a Duw Isaac, O ARGLWYDD, dywedaist wrthyf, 'Dos yn �l i'th wlad ac at dy dylwyth, a gwnaf i ti ddaioni.'

⁹And Jacob saith, `God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah who saith unto me, Turn back to thy land, and to thy kindred, and I do good with thee:

¹⁰ Nid wyf yn deilwng o gwbl o'r holl ymlyniad a'r holl ffyddlondeb a ddangosaist tuag at dy was; oherwydd deuthum dros yr Iorddonen hon heb ddim ond fy ffon, ond yn awr yr wyf yn ddau wersyll.

¹⁰I have been unworthy of all the kind acts, and of all the truth which Thou hast done with thy servant — for, with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

¹¹ Achub fi o law fy mrawd, o law Esau; y mae arnaf ei ofn, rhag iddo ddod a'n lladd, yn famau a phlant.

¹¹`Deliver me, I pray Thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I am fearing him, less he come and have smitten me — mother beside sons;

¹² Yr wyt ti wedi addo, 'Yn ddiau gwnaf ddaioni i ti, a bydd dy hil fel tywod y m�r, sy'n rhy niferus i'w rifo.'"

¹²and Thou — Thou hast said, I certainly do good with thee, and have set thy seed as the sand of the sea, which is not numbered because of the multitude.`

¹³ Arhosodd yno y noson honno, a chymerodd o'r hyn oedd ganddo anrheg i'w frawd Esau:

¹³And he lodgeth there during that night, and taketh from that which is coming into his hand, a present for Esau his brother:

¹⁴ dau gant o eifr ac ugain o fychod, dau gant o ddefaid ac ugain o hyrddod,

¹⁴she-goats two hundred, and he-goats twenty, ewes two hundred, and rams twenty,

¹⁵ deg ar hugain o gamelod magu a'u llydnod, deugain o wartheg a deg o deirw, ugain o asennod a deg asyn.

¹⁵suckling camels and their young ones thirty, cows forty, and bullocks ten, she-asses twenty, and foals ten;

¹⁶ Rhoes hwy yng ngofal ei weision, bob gyr ar ei phen ei hun, a dywedodd wrth ei weision, "Ewch o'm blaen, a gadewch fwlch rhwng pob gyr a'r nesaf."

¹⁶and he giveth into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and saith unto his servants, `Pass over before me, and a space ye do put between drove and drove.`

¹⁷ Gorchmynnodd i'r cyntaf, "Pan ddaw fy mrawd Esau i'th gyfarfod a gofyn, 'I bwy yr wyt yn perthyn? I ble'r wyt ti'n mynd? A phwy biau'r rhain sydd dan dy ofal?'

¹⁷And he commandeth the first, saying, `When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and hath asked thee, saying, Whose [art] thou? and whither goest thou? and whose [are] these before thee?

¹⁸ yna dywed, 'Dy was Jacob biau'r rhain; anfonwyd hwy'n anrheg i'm harglwydd Esau, ac y mae Jacob ei hun yn ein dilyn.'"

¹⁸then thou hast said, Thy servant Jacob`s: it [is] a present sent to my lord, to Esau; and lo, he also [is] behind us.`

¹⁹ Rhoes yr un gorchymyn i'r ail a'r trydydd, ac i bob un oedd yn canlyn y gyrroedd, a dweud, "Yr un peth a ddywedwch chwithau wrth Esau pan ddewch i'w gyfarfod,

¹⁹And he commandeth also the second, also the third, also all who are going after the droves, saying, `According to this manner do ye speak unto Esau in your finding him,

²⁰ 'Y mae dy was Jacob yn ein dilyn.'" Hyn oedd yn ei feddwl: "Enillaf ei ffafr �'r anrheg sy'n mynd o'm blaen; wedyn, pan ddof i'w gyfarfod, efallai y bydd yn fy nerbyn."

²⁰and ye have said also, Lo, thy servant Jacob [is] behind us;` for he said, `I pacify his face with the present which is going before me, and afterwards I see his face; it may be he lifteth up my face;`

²¹ Felly anfonodd yr anrheg o'i flaen, ond treuliodd ef y noson honno yn y gwersyll.

²¹and the present passeth over before his face, and he hath lodged during that night in the camp.

²² Yn ystod y noson honno cododd Jacob a chymryd ei ddwy wraig, ei ddwy forwyn a'i un mab ar ddeg, a chroesi rhyd Jabboc.

²²And he riseth in that night, and taketh his two wives, and his two maid-servants, and his eleven children, and passeth over the passage of Jabbok;

²³ Wedi iddo'u cymryd a'u hanfon dros yr afon, anfonodd ei eiddo drosodd hefyd.

²³and he taketh them, and causeth them to pass over the brook, and he causeth that which he hath to pass over.

²⁴ Gadawyd Jacob ei hunan, ac ymgodymodd gu373?r ag ef hyd doriad y wawr.

²⁴And Jacob is left alone, and one wrestleth with him till the ascending of the dawn;

²⁵ Pan welodd y gu373?r nad oedd yn cael y trechaf arno, trawodd wasg ei glun, a datgysylltwyd clun Jacob wrth iddo ymgodymu ag ef.

²⁵and he seeth that he is not able for him, and he cometh against the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob`s thigh is disjointed in his wrestling with him;

²⁶ Yna dywedodd y gu373?r, "Gollwng fi, oherwydd y mae'n gwawrio." Ond atebodd yntau, "Ni'th ollyngaf heb iti fy mendithio."

²⁶and he saith, `Send me away, for the dawn hath ascended:` and he saith, `I send thee not away, except thou hast blessed me.`

²⁷ "Beth yw d'enw?" meddai ef. Ac atebodd yntau, "Jacob."

²⁷And he saith unto him, `What [is] thy name?` and he saith, `Jacob.`

²⁸ Yna dywedodd, "Ni'th elwir Jacob mwyach, ond Israel, oherwydd yr wyt wedi ymdrechu � Duw a dynion, ac wedi gorchfygu."

²⁸And he saith, `Thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast been a prince with God and with men, and dost prevail.`

²⁹ A gofynnodd Jacob iddo, "Dywed imi dy enw." Ond dywedodd yntau, "Pam yr wyt yn gofyn fy enw?" A bendithiodd ef yno.

²⁹And Jacob asketh, and saith, `Declare, I pray thee, thy name;` and he saith, `Why [is] this, thou askest for My name?` and He blesseth him there.

³⁰ Felly enwodd Jacob y lle Penuel, a dweud, "Gwelais Dduw wyneb yn wyneb, ond arbedwyd fy mywyd."

³⁰And Jacob calleth the name of the place Peniel: for `I have seen God face unto face, and my life is delivered;`

³¹ Cododd yr haul arno fel yr oedd yn mynd heibio i Penuel, ac yr oedd yn gloff o'i glun.

³¹and the sun riseth on him when he hath passed over Penuel, and he is halting on his thigh;

³² Dyna pam nad yw plant Israel yn bwyta giewyn gwasg y glun hyd heddiw, oherwydd trawo gwasg clun Jacob i fyw y giewyn.

³²therefore the sons of Israel do not eat the sinew which shrank, which [is] on the hollow of the thigh, unto this day, because He came against the hollow of Jacob`s thigh, against the sinew which shrank.
