¹ Pan ddaeth Saul yn �l o ymlid y Philistiaid, dywedwyd wrtho fod Dafydd yn niffeithwch En-gedi.

¹And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.

² Felly cymerodd Saul dair mil o wu375?r wedi eu dewis allan o Israel gyfan, a mynd i chwilio am Ddafydd a'i wu375?r ar hyd copa creigiau'r geifr gwylltion.

²Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

³ Pan ddaeth at gorlannau'r defaid ar y ffordd, yr oedd yno ogof, ac aeth Saul i mewn i esmwytho'i gorff; ond yr oedd Dafydd a'i wu375?r yno ym mhen draw'r ogof.

³And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

⁴ Ac meddai gwu375?r Dafydd wrtho, "Dyma'r diwrnod y dywedodd yr ARGLWYDD wrthyt y byddai'n rhoi dy elyn yn dy law, a chei wneud iddo beth a fynni." Cododd Dafydd yn ddistaw a thorrodd gwr y fantell oedd am Saul.

⁴And the men of David said unto him, Behold, the day of which Jehovah said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thy hand, and thou shalt do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

⁵ Ond wedyn pigodd cydwybod Dafydd ef, am iddo dorri cwr mantell Saul,

⁵And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

⁶ a dywedodd wrth ei ddynion, "Yr ARGLWYDD a'm gwared rhag imi wneud y fath beth i'm harglwydd, eneiniog yr ARGLWYDD, ac estyn llaw yn ei erbyn, oherwydd eneiniog yr ARGLWYDD yw."

⁶And he said unto his men, Jehovah forbid that I should do this thing unto my lord, Jehovah's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, seeing he is Jehovah's anointed.

⁷ Ataliodd Dafydd ei wu375?r �'r geiriau hyn rhag iddynt ymosod ar Saul.

⁷So David checked his men with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. And Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

⁸ Pan ymadawodd Saul �'r ogof a mynd i'w daith, aeth Dafydd allan o'r ogof a galw ar ei �l a dweud, "F'arglwydd frenin!" A phan edrychodd Saul yn �l, plygodd Dafydd �'i wyneb at y llawr ac ymgrymu.

⁸David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.

⁹ Yna dywedodd Dafydd wrth Saul, "Pam y gwrandewaist ar eiriau'r dynion sy'n dweud fod Dafydd yn ceisio niwed i ti?

⁹And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

¹⁰ Heddiw fe weli �'th lygaid dy hun i'r ARGLWYDD dy roi yn fy llaw heddiw yn yr ogof; a dywedwyd wrthyf am dy ladd, ond trugarheais wrthyt a dweud, 'Nid estynnaf fy llaw yn erbyn f'arglwydd, oherwydd eneiniog yr ARGLWYDD yw.'

¹⁰Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered thee to-day into my hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee; but [mine eye] spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Jehovah's anointed.

¹¹ Edrych, fy nhad, ie, edrych, dyma gwr dy fantell yn fy llaw. Gan imi dorri cwr dy fantell heb dy ladd, fe ddylit wybod a gweld nad oedd dim malais na gwrthryfel ynof. Ni wneuthum gam � thi, ond eto yr wyt yn ymlid ar fy �l i'm dal.

¹¹Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee, though thou huntest after my life to take it.

¹² Bydded i'r ARGLWYDD farnu rhyngom a dial arnat, ond ni fydd fy llaw i arnat.

¹²Jehovah judge between me and thee, and Jehovah avenge me of thee; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

¹³ Fel y dywed yr hen ddihareb, 'O'r drygionus y daw drygioni.' Ond ni fydd fy llaw i arnat.

¹³As saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

¹⁴ Ar �l pwy yr aeth brenin Israel? Pwy wyt ti'n ei ymlid? Ci marw! Chwannen!

¹⁴After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

¹⁵ Fe gaiff yr ARGLWYDD fod yn ddyfarnwr a barnu rhyngom a'n gilydd; caiff ef chwilio a dadlau f'achos a'm rhyddhau o'th law."

¹⁵Jehovah therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thy hand.

¹⁶ Wedi i Ddafydd orffen llefaru fel hyn wrth Saul, meddai Saul: "Dafydd, fy mab, ai dy lais di yw hwn?" Yna fe dorrodd allan i wylo.

¹⁶And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

¹⁷ Ac meddai wrth Ddafydd, "Yr wyt ti yn fwy cyfiawn na mi, oherwydd yr wyt ti wedi talu da i mi, a minnau wedi talu drwg i ti.

¹⁷And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast rendered unto me good, whereas I have rendered unto thee evil.

¹⁸ Ac yr wyt wedi dangos mor dda fuost tuag ataf heddiw, pan oedd yr ARGLWYDD wedi fy rhoi yn dy law, a thithau'n ymatal rhag fy lladd.

¹⁸And thou hast declared this day how that thou hast dealt well with me, forasmuch as when Jehovah had delivered me up into thy hand, thou killedst me not.

¹⁹ Pan fydd rhywun yn dod ar warthaf ei elyn, a yw'n ei adael yn rhydd? Bydded i'r ARGLWYDD dalu'n �l iti'n hael am yr hyn a wnaethost imi heddiw.

¹⁹For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore Jehovah reward thee good for that which thou hast done unto me this day.

²⁰ Mi wn, bellach, mai ti sydd i fod yn frenin, ac y bydd teyrnas Israel yn llwyddo danat;

²⁰And now, behold, I know that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thy hand.

²¹ tynga imi'n awr yn enw'r ARGLWYDD, na fyddi'n difa fy hil ar fy �l nac yn dileu fy enw o'm teulu."

²¹Swear now therefore unto me by Jehovah, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

²² Tyngodd Dafydd i Saul. Yna aeth Saul adref, a Dafydd a'i wu375?r i fyny'n �l i'r lloches.

²²And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the stronghold.
