¹ Hysbyswyd Joab fod y brenin yn wylo ac yn galaru am Absalom.

¹And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

² Trodd buddugoliaeth y dydd yn alar i'r holl fyddin wedi iddynt glywed y diwrnod hwnnw fod y brenin yn gofidio am ei fab.

²And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people; for the people heard say that day, The king grieveth for his son.

³ Sleifiodd y fyddin i mewn i'r ddinas y diwrnod hwnnw, fel y bydd byddin sydd wedi ei chywilyddio ar �l ffoi mewn brwydr.

³And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

⁴ Yr oedd y brenin yn cuddio'i wyneb ac yn gweiddi'n uchel, "Fy mab Absalom, Absalom fy mab, fy mab!"

⁴And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

⁵ Yna aeth Joab i'r ystafell at y brenin a dweud, "Yr wyt ti heddiw yn gwaradwyddo dy ddilynwyr i gyd, sef y rhai sydd wedi achub dy fywyd di heddiw, a bywydau dy feibion a'th ferched, a bywydau dy wragedd a'th ordderchwragedd.

⁵And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, who this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

⁶ Trwy ddangos cariad tuag at dy gaseion a chas at dy garedigion, yr wyt ti'n cyhoeddi heddiw nad yw dy swyddogion na'th filwyr yn ddim gennyt. Yn wir fe welaf yn awr y byddit wrth dy fodd heddiw pe byddai Absalom wedi byw a ninnau i gyd wedi marw.

⁶in that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

⁷ Felly cod, dos allan a dywed air o galondid wrth dy ddilynwyr, neu, onid ei di allan atynt, tyngaf i'r ARGLWYDD, erbyn heno ni fydd gennyt yr un dyn ar �l; a byddi mewn gwaeth trybini na dim sydd wedi digwydd iti o'th febyd hyd yn awr."

⁷Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants; for I swear by Jehovah, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.

⁸ Ar hynny cododd y brenin ac eistedd yn y porth; anfonwyd neges at yr holl fyddin fod y brenin yn eistedd yn y porth, a daeth y fyddin gyfan ynghyd gerbron y brenin. Yr oedd yr Israeliaid i gyd wedi ffoi i'w cartrefi.

⁸Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

⁹ Yna dechreuodd pawb trwy holl lwythau Israel ddadlau a dweud, "Achubodd y brenin ni o afael ein gelynion, ac yn arbennig fe'n gwaredodd ni rhag y Philistiaid. Yn awr y mae wedi ffoi o'r wlad o achos Absalom.

⁹And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.

¹⁰ Ond y mae Absalom, a eneiniwyd gennym yn frenin, wedi marw yn y rhyfel; pam felly yr ydych yn oedi dod �'r brenin adref?"

¹⁰And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?

¹¹ Daeth dadleuon yr Israeliaid i gyd i glustiau'r brenin yn ei du375?, ac anfonodd at Sadoc ac Abiathar, yr offeiriaid, iddynt ddweud wrth henuriaid Jwda, "Pam yr ydych chwi'n oedi dod �'r brenin adref?

¹¹And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, [to bring him] to his house.

¹² Chwi yw fy nhylwyth, fy asgwrn i a'm cnawd; pam yr ydych yn oedi dod �'r brenin adref?

¹²Ye are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

¹³ Dywedwch wrth Amasa, 'Onid fy asgwrn i a'm cnawd wyt tithau? Fel hyn y gwnelo Duw imi, a rhagor os nad ti o hyn ymlaen fydd capten y llu drosof yn lle Joab.'"

¹³And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

¹⁴ Enillodd galon holl wu375?r Jwda'n unfryd, ac anfonasant neges at y brenin, "Tyrd yn �l, ti a'th holl ddilynwyr."

¹⁴And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as [the heart of] one man; so that they sent unto the king, [saying], Return thou, and all thy servants.

¹⁵ Daeth y brenin yn �l, a phan gyrhaeddodd yr Iorddonen, yr oedd y Jwdeaid wedi cyrraedd Gilgal ar eu ffordd i gyfarfod y brenin a'i hebrwng dros yr Iorddonen.

¹⁵So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

¹⁶ Brysiodd Simei, mab Gera y Benjaminiad o Bahurim, i fynd i lawr gyda gwu375?r Jwda i gyfarfod y Brenin Dafydd.

¹⁶And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

¹⁷ Daeth mil o ddynion o Benjamin gydag ef. A rhuthrodd Siba gwas teulu Saul, gyda'i bymtheg mab ac ugain gwas, i lawr at yr Iorddonen o flaen y brenin,

¹⁷And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.

¹⁸ a chroesi'r rhyd i gario teulu'r brenin drosodd, er mwyn ennill ffafr yn ei olwg. Wedi i'r brenin groesi, syrthiodd Simei fab Gera o'i flaen

¹⁸And there went over a ferry-boat to bring over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he was come over the Jordan.

¹⁹ a dweud wrtho, "O f'arglwydd, paid �'m hystyried yn euog, a phaid � chofio ymddygiad gwarthus dy was y diwrnod y gadawodd f'arglwydd frenin Jerwsalem, na'i gadw mewn cof.

¹⁹And he said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

²⁰ Oherwydd y mae dy was yn sylweddoli iddo bechu, ac am hynny dyma fi wedi dod yma heddiw, yn gyntaf o holl du375? Joseff i ddod i lawr i gyfarfod f'arglwydd frenin."

²⁰For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

²¹ Ymateb Abisai fab Serfia oedd, "Oni ddylid rhoi Simei i farwolaeth am felltithio eneiniog yr ARGLWYDD?"

²¹But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Jehovah's anointed?

²² Ond dywedodd Dafydd, "Beth sydd a wneloch chwi � mi, O feibion Serfia, eich bod yn troi'n wrthwynebwyr imi heddiw? Ni chaiff neb yn Israel ei roi i farwolaeth heddiw, oherwydd oni wn i heddiw mai myfi sy'n frenin ar Israel?"

²²And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

²³ Dywedodd y brenin wrth Simei, "Ni fyddi farw." A thyngodd y brenin hynny wrtho.

²³And the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

²⁴ Hefyd fe ddaeth Meffiboseth, u373?yr Saul, i lawr i gyfarfod y brenin. Nid oedd wedi trin ei draed na'i farf, na golchi ei ddillad o'r diwrnod yr ymadawodd y brenin hyd y dydd y dychwelodd yn ddiogel.

²⁴And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

²⁵ Pan gyrhaeddodd o Jerwsalem i gyfarfod y brenin, gofynnodd y brenin iddo, "Pam nad aethost ti gyda mi, Meffiboseth?"

²⁵And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

²⁶ Atebodd yntau, "O f'arglwydd frenin, fy ngwas a'm twyllodd i; yr oeddwn i wedi bwriadu cyfrwyo asyn a marchogaeth arno yng nghwmni'r brenin, am fy mod yn gloff.

²⁶And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.

²⁷ Y mae fy ngwas wedi f'enllibio i wrth f'arglwydd frenin, ond y mae f'arglwydd frenin fel angel Duw; gwna fel y gweli'n dda.

²⁷And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

²⁸ I'm harglwydd frenin nid oedd y cyfan o dylwyth fy nhad ond meirwon, ac eto gosodaist ti dy was ymhlith y rhai oedd yn cael bwyta wrth dy fwrdd; pa hawl bellach sydd gennyf i apelio eto at y brenin?"

²⁸For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more unto the king?

²⁹ Dywedodd y brenin wrtho, "Pam y dywedi ragor? Penderfynais dy fod ti a Siba i rannu'r ystad."

²⁹And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

³⁰ Dywedodd Meffiboseth wrth y brenin, "Cymered ef y cwbl, gan fod f'arglwydd frenin wedi cyrraedd adref yn ddiogel."

³⁰And Mephibosheth said unto the king, yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house.

³¹ Daeth Barsilai y Gileadiad i lawr o Rogelim a mynd cyn belled �'r Iorddonen i hebrwng y brenin.

³¹And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.

³² Yr oedd Barsilai yn hen iawn, yn bedwar ugain oed, ac ef oedd wedi cynnal y brenin tra oedd yn aros ym Mahanaim, oherwydd yr oedd yn u373?r cefnog iawn.

³²Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

³³ Dywedodd y brenin wrth Barsilai, "Tyrd drosodd gyda mi, a chynhaliaf di tra byddi gyda mi yn Jerwsalem."

³³And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.

³⁴ Ond meddai Barsilai wrth y brenin, "Pa faint rhagor sydd gennyf i fyw, fel y down i fyny i Jerwsalem gyda'r brenin?

³⁴And Barzillai said unto the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

³⁵ Yr wyf yn bedwar ugain oed erbyn hyn; ni allaf ddweud y gwahaniaeth rhwng da a drwg; nid wyf yn medru blasu'r hyn yr wyf yn ei fwyta na'i yfed, na chlywed erbyn hyn leisiau cantorion a chantoresau. Pam y byddwn yn faich pellach ar f'arglwydd frenin?

³⁵I am this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

³⁶ Yn fuan iawn bydd dy was wedi hebrwng y brenin at yr Iorddonen; pam y dylai'r brenin roi'r fath d�l imi?

³⁶Thy servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

³⁷ Gad i'th was ddychwelyd, fel y caf farw yn fy ninas fy hun, gerllaw bedd fy nhad a'm mam. Ond dyma dy was Cimham, gad iddo ef groesi gyda'm harglwydd frenin, a gwna iddo ef fel y gweli'n dda."

³⁷Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

³⁸ Dywedodd y brenin, "Fe gaiff Cimham fynd drosodd gyda mi, a gwnaf iddo fel y gweli di'n dda; a gwnaf i tithau beth bynnag a ddeisyfi gennyf."

³⁸And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

³⁹ Croesodd yr holl bobl dros yr Iorddonen, tra oedd y brenin yn aros; yna cusanodd y brenin Barsilai, a'i fendithio, ac aeth yntau adref.

³⁹And all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over: and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

⁴⁰ Pan groesodd y brenin i Gilgal, aeth Cimham drosodd gydag ef; yr oedd holl filwyr Jwda a hanner milwyr Israel yn ei hebrwng drosodd.

⁴⁰So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

⁴¹ Yna daeth yr holl Israeliaid a dweud wrth y brenin, "Pam y mae'n brodyr, pobl Jwda, wedi dwyn y brenin, a dod ag ef a'i deulu dros yr Iorddonen, a holl filwyr Dafydd gydag ef?"

⁴¹And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?

⁴² Dywedodd holl wu375?r Jwda wrth yr Israeliaid, "Y mae'r brenin yn perthyn yn nes i ni. Pam yr ydych mor ddig am hyn? A ydym ni wedi bwyta o gwbl ar ei draul, neu wedi derbyn unrhyw fantais ganddo?"

⁴²And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then are ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all at the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?

⁴³ Ateb gwu375?r Israel i wu375?r Jwda ar hyn oedd: "Y mae gennym ni ddengwaith mwy o hawl ar y brenin na chwi, ac yr ydym ni yn hu375?n na chwi hefyd. Pam yr ydych yn ein bychanu ni? Onid ni oedd y cyntaf i s�n am ddod �'n brenin yn �l?" Ond dadleuodd gwu375?r Jwda yn ffyrnicach na gwu375?r Israel.

⁴³And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more [right] in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
