2 Samuel

24

1 Unwaith eto enynnodd dicter yr ARGLWYDD yn erbyn yr Israeliaid, ac anogodd Ddafydd yn eu herbyn trwy ddweud, "Dos, cyfrifa'r Israeliaid a'r Jwdeaid."
1And again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah.
2 Felly fe ddywedodd y brenin wrth Joab, a swyddogion y fyddin oedd gydag ef, "Dos drwy holl lwythau Israel o Dan i Beerseba a chyfrifa'r bobl, er mwyn imi wybod eu nifer."
2And the king said to Joab the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people.
3 Dywedodd Joab wrth y brenin, "Bydded i'r ARGLWYDD dy Dduw luosogi'r bobl ganwaith yr hyn ydynt, ac i tithau, f'arglwydd frenin, ei weld 'th lygaid dy hun; ond pam y mae f'arglwydd frenin 'i fryd ar wneud hyn?"
3And Joab said unto the king, Now Jehovah thy God add unto the people, how many soever they may be, a hundredfold; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?
4 Ond yr oedd gair y brenin yn drech na Joab a swyddogion y fyddin; felly fe aeth Joab a swyddogion y fyddin allan yn l gorchymyn y brenin i gyfrif pobl Israel.
4Notwithstanding, the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
5 Wedi croesi'r Iorddonen, dechreusant yn Aroer, i'r de o'r ddinas sydd yng nghanol y dyffryn, yna aethant i Gad, ac ymlaen i Jaser.
5And they passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and unto Jazer:
6 Yna daethant i Gilead a gwlad yr Hethiaid, cyn belled Cades; ac i Dan a Jaan, a chwmpasu at Sidon.
6then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Sidon,
7 Daethant wedyn at ddinas gaerog Tyrus, a holl drefi'r Hefiaid a'r Canaaneaid, a gorffen yn Negef Jwda, yn Beerseba.
7and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba.
8 Wedi iddynt deithio drwy'r wlad gyfan, daethant yn l i Jerwsalem ymhen naw mis ac ugain diwrnod.
8So when they had gone to and from through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 Rhoddodd Joab swm cyfrifiad y bobl i'r brenin: yr oedd yn Israel wyth gan mil o wu375?r abl i drin cleddyf, ac yr oedd milwyr Jwda yn bum can mil.
9And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
10 Wedi iddo gyfrif y bobl, pigodd cydwybod Dafydd ef; a dywedodd wrth yr ARGLWYDD, "Pechais yn fawr trwy wneud hyn; am hynny, O ARGLWYDD, maddau i'th was, oherwydd bm yn ffl iawn."
10And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, O Jehovah, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
11 Wedi i Ddafydd godi fore trannoeth, daeth gair yr ARGLWYDD at y proffwyd Gad, gweledydd Dafydd, gan ddweud,
11And when David rose up in the morning, the word of Jehovah came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,
12 "Dos a dywed wrth Ddafydd, 'Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: Yr wyf yn cynnig tri pheth iti; dewis di un ohonynt, ac fe'i gwnaf iti'."
12Go and speak unto David, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
13 Daeth Gad at Ddafydd a'i hysbysu a dweud wrtho, "A fynni di dair blynedd o newyn yn dy wlad, ynteu tri mis o ffoi o flaen dy wrthwynebwyr tra byddant yn dy erlid, ynteu tridiau o haint yn dy wlad? Ystyria ac edrych pa ateb a roddaf i'r un a'm hanfonodd."
13So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
14 Dywedodd Dafydd wrth Gad, "Y mae'n gyfyng iawn arnaf, ond bydded inni syrthio i law'r ARGLWYDD, am fod ei drugareddau'n aml, yn hytrach nag imi syrthio i ddwylo pobl."
14And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.
15 Felly dewisodd Dafydd yr haint. Yr oedd yn dymor y cynhaeaf gwenith, ac anfonodd yr ARGLWYDD haint ar Israel o'r bore hyd derfyn y cyfnod penodedig. Bu farw deng mil a thrigain o'r bobl o Dan i Beerseba.
15So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.
16 Ond pan estynnodd yr angel ei law yn erbyn Jerwsalem i'w dinistrio, edifarhaodd yr ARGLWYDD am y niwed, a dywedodd wrth yr angel oedd yn distrywio'r bobl, "Digon bellach! Atal dy law." Yr oedd angel yr ARGLWYDD yn ymyl llawr dyrnu Arafna y Jebusiad.
16And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 Pan welodd Dafydd yr angel yn taro'r bobl, dywedodd wrth yr ARGLWYDD, "Myfi sydd wedi pechu, a myfi sydd wedi gwneud drwg; ond am y defaid hyn, beth a wnaethant hwy? Bydded dy law yn f'erbyn i a'm teulu."
17And David spake unto Jehovah when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.
18 Daeth Gad at Ddafydd y diwrnod hwnnw a dweud wrtho, "Dos, a chyfod allor i'r ARGLWYDD ar lawr dyrnu Arafna y Jebusiad."
18And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
19 Felly, ar air Gad, fe aeth Dafydd fel y gorchmynnodd yr ARGLWYDD.
19And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.
20 Pan edrychodd Arafna a gweld y brenin a'i weision yn dod tuag ato, aeth allan a moesymgrymu i'r brenin 'i wyneb i'r llawr.
20And Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
21 Ac meddai Arafna, "Pam y daeth f'arglwydd frenin at ei was?" Atebodd Dafydd, "I brynu gennyt y llawr dyrnu, i godi allor i'r ARGLWYDD er mwyn atal y pla sydd ar y bobl."
21And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor of thee, to build an altar unto Jehovah, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
22 Yna dywedodd Arafna wrth Ddafydd, "Cymered f'arglwydd frenin ef ac offrymu'r hyn a fyn; edrych, dyma'r ychen ar gyfer y poethoffrwm, a'r sled ddyrnu ac iau'r ychen yn danwydd."
22And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood:
23 Rhoddodd Arafna'r cwbl i'r brenin, a dweud wrtho, "Bydded yr ARGLWYDD dy Dduw yn fodlon arnat."
23all this, O king, doth Araunah give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, Jehovah thy God accept thee.
24 Ond dywedodd y brenin wrth Arafna, "Na, rhaid imi ei brynu gennyt am bris. Nid wyf am aberthu i'r ARGLWYDD fy Nuw boethoffrwm di-gost." Felly prynodd Dafydd y llawr dyrnu a'r ychen am hanner can sicl o arian;
24And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price. Neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto Jehovah my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25 a chododd yno allor i'r ARGLWYDD, ac aberthu poethoffrymau a heddoffrymau. Der-byniodd yr ARGLWYDD ymbil ar ran y wlad, ac ataliwyd y pla oddi ar Israel.
25And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
