1 Kings

20

1 Casglodd Ben-hadad brenin Syria ei holl lu, gyda meirch a cherbydau, a deuddeg ar hugain o frenhinoedd gydag ef, ac aeth i warchae ar Samaria a brwydro yn ei herbyn.
1And Ben-Hadad king of Syria assembled all his host; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2 Anfonodd negesyddion i'r ddinas at Ahab brenin Israel,
2And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ben-Hadad:
3 a dweud wrtho, "Fel hyn y dywed Ben-hadad: 'Fi piau dy arian a'th aur, a hefyd dy wragedd a'th blant tecaf.'"
3Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, the goodliest, are mine.
4 Atebodd brenin Israel, "Fel y dywedi, f'arglwydd frenin; ti piau fi a phopeth a feddaf."
4And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.
5 Ond daeth y negesyddion yn l drachefn a dweud, "Fel hyn y dywed Ben-hadad: 'Anfonais atat a dweud, "Dy arian a'th aur, a hefyd dy wragedd a'th blant a roddi imi";
5And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben-Hadad saying: I sent to thee indeed, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
6 ond yr adeg yma yfory byddaf yn anfon fy ngweision atat i chwilio dy du375? a thai dy weision, a chipio popeth dymunol yn dy olwg a'i ddwyn ymaith.'"
6but to-morrow about this time I will send my servants to thee, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thy sight, they shall put in their hand and take away.
7 Yna galwodd brenin Israel holl henuriaid y wlad a dweud, "Sylwch fel y mae hwn am fynnu helynt. Oherwydd pan anfonodd ataf am fy ngwragedd a'm plant, a'm harian a'm haur, nid oeddwn yn eu gomedd iddo."
7And the king of Israel called all the elders of the land and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this [man] seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
8 Dywedodd yr henuriaid i gyd a'r holl bobl wrtho, "Paid gwrando, a phaid chytuno."
8And all the elders and all the people said to him, Hearken not, nor consent.
9 Yna dywedodd y brenin wrth negesyddion Ben-hadad, "Dywedwch wrth f'arglwydd frenin, 'Gwnaf bopeth a hawliaist gan dy was y tro cyntaf, ond ni allaf wneud y peth hwn.'" Ymadawodd y negesyddion a mynd 'r ateb i Ben-hadad.
9And he said to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10 Anfonodd hwnnw'n l a dweud, "Fel hyn y gwnelo'r duwiau i mi, a rhagor, os bydd llwch Samaria yn ddigon i wneud dyrnaid bob un i'r bobl sy'n fy nilyn."
10And Ben-Hadad sent to him and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me!
11 Ond ateb brenin Israel oedd, "Dywedwch wrtho, 'Peidied yr un sy'n codi arfau ag ymffrostio fel yr un sy'n eu rhoi i lawr.'"
11And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell [him], Let not him that girdeth on boast himself as he that putteth off!
12 A phan glywodd Ben-hadad y dywediad hwn, ac yntau'n diota gyda'r brenhinoedd eraill yn y pebyll, dywedodd wrth ei weision, "Ymosodwch." Ac ymosodasant ar y ddinas.
12And it came to pass when he heard this word, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the tents, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves. And they set themselves against the city.
13 Daeth rhyw broffwyd at Ahab brenin Israel a dweud wrtho, "Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: 'A weli di'r holl dyrfa fawr hon? Rhoddaf hi yn dy law heddiw, a chei wybod mai fi yw'r ARGLWYDD.'"
13And behold, a prophet drew near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus saith Jehovah: Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah.
14 Gofynnodd Ahab, "Trwy bwy?" Ac atebodd, "Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: 'Trwy filwyr ifainc llywodraethwyr y taleithiau.'" Yna gofynnodd, "Pwy sydd i gychwyn y frwydr?" Ac meddai'r proffwyd, "Tydi."
14And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith Jehovah: By the servants of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he said, Thou.
15 Pan rifodd filwyr ifainc llywod-raethwyr y taleithiau, yr oedd dau gant tri deg a dau ohonynt, ac yna rhifodd holl bobl Israel, ac yr oedd saith mil.
15And he numbered the servants of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand.
16 Ac aethant allan ganol dydd, pan oedd Ben-hadad yn meddwi yn y pebyll gyda'r deuddeg brenin ar hugain oedd yn ei gynorthwyo.
16And they went out at noon; and Ben-Hadad drank himself drunk in the tents, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings that helped him.
17 Daeth milwyr ifainc llywodraethwyr y taleithiau allan i ddechrau; ac anfonwyd neges at Ben-hadad fod dynion yn dod allan o Samaria.
17And the servants of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-Hadad sent out, and they told him saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
18 Dywedodd, "Prun bynnag ai ceisio heddwch ai ceisio rhyfel y maent, daliwch hwy yn fyw."
18And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
19 Parhau i ddod allan o'r ddinas a wnaeth milwyr ifainc llywodraethwyr y taleithiau, gyda'r fyddin i'w canlyn.
19And these servants of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army that followed them.
20 Ac ymosododd pob un ar ei wrthwynebwr, nes i'r Syriaid ffoi, gyda'r Israeliaid ar eu gwarthaf; ond dihangodd Ben-hadad brenin Syria ar farch gyda gwu375?r meirch.
20And they slew every one his man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the horsemen.
21 Aeth brenin Israel allan a tharo'r meirch a'r cerbydau, a gwneud lladdfa fawr ymhlith y Syriaid.
21And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22 Yna daeth y proffwyd at frenin Israel a dweud wrtho, "Dos i geisio ymgryfhau a phenderfynu'n ofalus beth a wnei, oherwydd gyda'r gwanwyn fe ddaw brenin Syria yn dy erbyn."
22And the prophet drew near to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen thyself, and understand, and see what thou shalt do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
23 Dywedodd gweision brenin Syria wrtho, "Duwiau'r mynyddoedd yw eu duwiau hwy; dyna pam y buont yn drech na ni. Ond pe baem ni'n ymladd hwy ar y gwastadedd, yn sicr fe'u trechem.
23And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their gods are gods of the mountains; therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them on the plateau, shall we not be stronger than they?
24 Dyma a wnei: diswydda bob un o'r brenhinoedd hyn, gosod raglawiaid yn eu lle,
24And do this: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put governors in their stead;
25 a chasgl ynghyd fyddin debyg i'r un a gollaist, gyda march am farch a cherbyd am gerbyd. Gad inni ymladd hwy ar y gwastadedd, ac yn sicr fe'u trechwn." Cytunodd y brenin i wneud hynny.
25and number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them on the plateau: shall we not be stronger than they? And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.
26 Yn y gwanwyn casglodd Ben-hadad y Syriaid i ryfela ag Israel, ac aeth i Affec.
26And it came to pass, at the return of the year, that Ben-Hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
27 Yna galwyd yr Israeliaid i fyny, a darparu bwyd ar eu cyfer, ac aethant i'w gwrthsefyll. Yr oedd yr Israeliaid yn eu gwersyll gyferbyn hwy fel dwy ddiadell fach o eifr, a'r Syriaid yn llenwi'r wlad.
27And the children of Israel were numbered and victualled, and they went against them; and the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats; but the Syrians filled the land.
28 A daeth gu373?r Duw at frenin Israel a dweud, "Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: 'Am fod y Syriaid wedi dweud mai Duw mynydd-dir yw'r ARGLWYDD, ac nad yw'n Dduw gwastatir, yr wyf am roi'r holl dyrfa fawr hon yn dy law; a chewch wybod mai myfi yw'r ARGLWYDD.'"
28And the man of God drew near, and spoke to the king of Israel and said, Thus saith Jehovah: Because the Syrians have said, Jehovah is a god of the mountains, but he is not a god of the valleys, I will give all this great multitude into thy hand, and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
29 Bu'r naill yn gwersyllu gyferbyn 'r llall am wythnos; yna ar y seithfed dydd dechreuodd y frwydr, a thrawodd yr Israeliaid gan mil o wu375?r traed y Syriaid mewn un dydd.
29And they encamped one over against the other seven days; and it came to pass that on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel smote of the Syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30 Ffodd y gweddill i ddinas Affec, a chwympodd y mur ar y saith mil ar hugain ohonynt.
30And the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men of them that were left. And Ben-Hadad fled, and came into the city, [from] chamber to chamber.
31 Ffodd Ben-hadad hefyd i'r ddinas, a chyrraedd y gaer nesaf i mewn. Ac meddai ei weision wrtho, "Gwrando'n awr, clywsom fod brenhinoedd Israel yn frenhinoedd tirion. Gad inni wisgo sachliain a rhoi rhaffau am ein gyddfau, a mynd allan at frenin Israel; efallai yr arbed dy einioes."
31And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will save thy life.
32 A rhoesant sachliain am eu llwynau a rhaffau am eu gyddfau, a mynd at frenin Israel a dweud wrtho, "Mae dy was Ben-hadad yn dweud, 'Arbed fy mywyd.'" Meddai yntau, "A yw'n fyw o hyd? Fy mrawd ydyw."
32And they girded sackcloth on their loins, and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-Hadad says, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
33 Yr oedd y dynion yn gwylio am arwydd, a buont yn gyflym i ddal ar ei eiriau, a dweud, "Ie, dy frawd Ben-hadad." A dywedodd, "Ewch i'w nl." Pan ddaeth Ben-hadad allan ato, derbyniodd ef i'w gerbyd,
33And the men took it as a good omen, and hastened to catch what came from him, and they said, Thy brother Ben-Hadad. ... And he said, Go, bring him. And Ben-Hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34 a dywedodd Ben-hadad wrtho, "Dychwelaf y trefi a ddygodd fy nhad oddi ar dy dad; a chei osod marchnadau i ti dy hun yn Namascus, fel y gwnaeth fy nhad yn Samaria; rhyddha fi ar yr amod hwn." A gwnaeth Ahab gytundeb ag ef a'i ollwng yn rhydd.
34And [Ben-Hadad] said to him, The cities that my father took from thy father I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thyself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. And I [said Ahab] will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
35 Yna dywedodd un o urdd y proffwydi wrth gyfaill iddo trwy air yr ARGLWYDD, "Taro fi'n awr." Ond gwrthododd ei gyfaill ei daro.
35And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to another by the word of Jehovah, Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
36 A dywedodd yntau wrtho, "Am iti wrthod ufuddhau i lais yr ARGLWYDD, bydd llew yn ymosod arnat pan ei oddi wrthyf." Ac wedi iddo fynd oddi wrtho, cyfarfu llew ag ef ac ymosod arno.
36Then said he to him, Because thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, behold, when thou departest from me, the lion will slay thee. And when he had departed from him, the lion found him and slew him.
37 Yna cafodd y proffwyd u373?r arall a dweud, "Taro fi'n awr." A thrawodd y gu373?r hwnnw ef a'i glwyfo.
37Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him violently, and wounded [him].
38 Wedyn aeth y proffwyd a disgwyl am y brenin ar y ffordd, a chadach dros ei lygaid rhag iddo'i adnabod.
38And the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with a sash over his eyes.
39 Pan ddaeth y brenin heibio, llefodd arno a dweud, "Aeth dy was i ganol y frwydr, a dyna rywun yn dod ac yn trosglwyddo dyn imi ac yn dweud, 'Edrych ar l y dyn yma; os bydd yn dianc, rhaid i ti gymryd ei le neu dalu talent o arian.'
39And as the king passed by, he cried to the king and said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me and said, Keep this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
40 Ond tra oedd dy was yn brysur hwnt ac yma, diflannodd y dyn." Yna meddai brenin Israel wrtho, "Felly boed dy ddedfryd; tydi dy hun sydd wedi ei phennu."
40And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So [is] thy judgment: thyself hast decided [it].
41 Heb oedi dim, tynnodd yntau'r cadach oddi ar ei lygaid, a gwelodd brenin Israel mai un o'r proffwydi oedd.
41Then he hastily took the sash away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him, that he was of the prophets.
42 Dywedodd wrtho, "Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: 'Am iti ollwng yn rhydd y gu373?r oedd i'w ddifodi, rhaid i ti gymryd ei le, a'th bobl di le ei bobl ef.'"
42And he said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Because thou hast let go out of thy hand the man that I had devoted to destruction, thy life shall be for his life, and thy people for his people.
43 Dychwelodd brenin Israel adref i Samaria yn ddigalon a dig.
43And the king of Israel went to his house sullen and vexed, and came to Samaria.
