Darby's Translation

Acts

17

1 Aethant ar hyd y ffordd trwy Amffipolis ac Apolonia, a chyrraedd Thesalonica, lle yr oedd synagog gan yr Iddewon.
1And having journeyed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was the synagogue of the Jews.
2 Ac yn l ei arfer aeth Paul i mewn atynt, ac am dri Saboth bu'n ymresymu hwy ar sail yr Ysgrythurau,
2And according to Paul's custom he went in among them, and on three sabbaths reasoned with them from the scriptures,
3 gan esbonio a phrofi fod yn rhaid i'r Meseia ddioddef a chyfodi oddi wrth y meirw. Byddai'n dweud, "Hwn yw'r Meseia Iesu, yr hwn yr wyf fi'n ei gyhoeddi i chwi."
3opening and laying down that the Christ must have suffered and risen up from among the dead, and that this is the Christ, Jesus whom *I* announce to you.
4 Cafodd rhai ohonynt eu hargyhoeddi, ac ymuno Paul a Silas; ac felly hefyd y gwnaeth lliaws mawr o'r Groegiaid oedd yn addoli Duw, ac nid ychydig o'r gwragedd blaenaf.
4And some of them believed, and joined themselves to Paul and Silas, and of the Greeks who worshipped, a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 Ond cenfigennodd yr Iddewon, ac wedi cael gafael ar rai dihirod o blith segurwyr y sgwr, a'u casglu'n dorf, dechreusant greu terfysg yn y ddinas. Ymosodasant ar du375? Jason, a cheisio dod Paul a Silas allan gerbron y dinasyddion.
5But the Jews having been stirred up to jealousy, and taken to [themselves] certain wicked men of the lowest rabble, and having got a crowd together, set the city in confusion; and having beset the house of Jason sought to bring them out to the people;
6 Ond wedi methu dod o hyd iddynt hwy, llusgasant Jason a rhai credinwyr o flaen llywodraethwyr y ddinas, gan weiddi, "Y mae aflonyddwyr yr Ymerodraeth wedi dod yma hefyd,
6and not having found them, dragged Jason and certain brethren before the politarchs, crying out, These [men] that have set the world in tumult, are come here also,
7 ac y mae Jason wedi rhoi croeso iddynt; y mae'r bobl hyn i gyd yn troseddu yn erbyn ordeiniadau Cesar trwy ddweud fod brenin arall, sef Iesu."
7whom Jason has received; and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying, that there is another king, Jesus.
8 Cyffrowyd y dyrfa a'r llywodraethwyr pan glywsant hyn,
8And they troubled the crowd and the politarchs when they heard these things.
9 ond ar l derbyn gwarant gan Jason a'r lleill, gollyngasant hwy'n rhydd.
9And having taken security of Jason and the rest, they let them go.
10 Cyn gynted ag iddi nosi, anfonodd y credinwyr Paul a Silas i Berea, ac wedi iddynt gyrraedd aethant i synagog yr Iddewon.
10But the brethren immediately sent away, in the night, Paul and Silas to Berea; who, being arrived, went away into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Yr oedd y rhain yn fwy eangfrydig na'r rhai yn Thesalonica, gan iddynt dderbyn y gair phob eiddgarwch, gan chwilio'r Ysgrythurau beunydd i weld a oedd pethau fel yr oeddent hwy yn dweud.
11And these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, receiving the word with all readiness of mind, daily searching the scriptures if these things were so.
12 Gan hynny, credodd llawer ohonynt, ac nid ychydig o'r Groegiaid, yn wragedd bonheddig ac yn wu375?r.
12Therefore many from among them believed, and of Grecian women of the upper classes and men not a few.
13 Ond pan ddaeth Iddewon Thesalonica i wybod fod gair Duw wedi ei gyhoeddi gan Paul yn Berea hefyd, daethant i godi terfysg a chythryblu'r tyrfaoedd yno hefyd.
13But when the Jews from Thessalonica knew that the word of God was announced in Berea also by Paul, they came there also, stirring up the crowds.
14 Yna anfonodd y credinwyr Paul ymaith yn ddi-oed i fynd hyd at y mr, ond arhosodd Silas a Timotheus yno.
14And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as to the sea; but Silas and Timotheus abode there.
15 Daeth hebryngwyr Paul ag ef i Athen, ac aethant oddi yno gyda gorchymyn i Silas a Timotheus ddod ato cyn gynted ag y gallent.
15But they that conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens; and, having received a commandment to Silas and Timotheus, that they should come to him as quickly as possible, they departed.
16 Tra bu Paul yn eu disgwyl yn Athen, cythruddid ei ysbryd ynddo wrth weld y ddinas yn llawn eilunod.
16But in Athens, while Paul was waiting for them, his spirit was painfully excited in him seeing the city given up to idolatry.
17 Gan hynny, ymresymodd yn y synagog 'r Iddewon ac 'r rhai oedd yn addoli Duw, ac yn y sgwr bob dydd phwy bynnag a fyddai yno.
17He reasoned therefore in the synagogue with the Jews, and those who worshipped, and in the market-place every day with those he met with.
18 Yr oedd rhai o'r athronwyr, yn Epicwriaid a Stoiciaid, yn dadlau ag ef hefyd, a rhai'n dweud, "Beth yn y byd y mae'r clebryn yma yn mynnu ei ddweud?" Meddai eraill, "Y mae'n ymddangos ei fod yn cyhoeddi duwiau dieithr." Oherwydd cyhoeddi'r newydd da am Iesu a'r atgyfodiad yr oedd.
18But some also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers attacked him. And some said, What would this chatterer say? and some, He seems to be an announcer of foreign demons, because he announced the glad tidings of Jesus and the resurrection [to them].
19 Cymerasant afael ynddo, a mynd ag ef at yr Areopagus, gan ddweud, "A gawn ni wybod beth yw'r ddysgeidiaeth newydd yma a draethir gennyt ti?
19And having taken hold on him they brought [him] to Areopagus, saying, Might we know what this new doctrine which is spoken by thee [is]?
20 Oherwydd yr wyt yn dwyn i'n clyw ni ryw syniadau dieithr. Yr ydym yn dymuno cael gwybod, felly, beth yw ystyr y pethau hyn."
20For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears. We wish therefore to know what these things may mean.
21 Nid oedd gan neb o'r Atheniaid, na'r dieithriaid oedd ar ymweliad 'r lle, amser i ddim arall ond i adrodd neu glywed y peth diweddaraf.
21Now all [the] Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else than to tell and to hear the news.
22 Safodd Paul yng nghanol yr Areopagus, ac meddai: "Bobl Athen, yr wyf yn gweld ar bob llaw eich bod yn dra chrefyddgar.
22And Paul standing in the midst of Areopagus said, Athenians, in every way I see you given up to demon worship;
23 Oherwydd wrth fynd o gwmpas ac edrych ar eich pethau cysegredig, cefais yn eu plith allor ac arni'n ysgrifenedig, 'I Dduw nid adwaenir'. Yr hyn, ynteu, yr ydych chwi'n ei addoli heb ei adnabod, dyna'r hyn yr wyf fi'n ei gyhoeddi i chwi.
23for, passing through and beholding your shrines, I found also an altar on which was inscribed, To the unknown God. Whom therefore ye reverence, not knowing [him], him I announce to you.
24 Y Duw a wnaeth y byd a phopeth sydd ynddo, nid yw ef, ac yntau'n Arglwydd nef a daear, yn preswylio mewn temlau o waith llaw.
24The God who has made the world and all things which are in it, *he*, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands,
25 Ni wasanaethir ef chwaith dwylo dynol, fel pe bai arno angen rhywbeth, gan mai ef ei hun sy'n rhoi i bawb fywyd ac anadl a'r cwbl oll.
25nor is served by men's hands as needing something, himself giving to all life and breath and all things;
26 Gwnaeth ef hefyd o un dyn yr holl genhedloedd, i breswylio ar holl wyneb y ddaear, gan osod cyfnodau penodedig a therfynau eu preswylfod.
26and has made of one blood every nation of men to dwell upon the whole face of the earth, having determined ordained times and the boundaries of their dwelling,
27 Yr oeddent i geisio Duw, yn y gobaith y gallent rywfodd ymbalfalu amdano a'i ddarganfod; ac eto nid yw ef nepell oddi wrth yr un ohonom.
27that they may seek God; if indeed they might feel after him and find him, although he is not far from each one of us:
28 'Oherwydd ynddo ef yr ydym yn byw ac yn symud ac yn bod', fel, yn wir, y dywedodd rhai o'ch beirdd chwi: 'Canys ei hiliogaeth ef hefyd ydym ni.'
28for in him we live and move and exist; as also some of the poets amongst you have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Os ydym ni, felly, yn hiliogaeth Duw, ni ddylem dybio fod y Duwdod yn debyg i aur neu arian neu faen, gwaith nadd celfyddyd a dychymyg dyn.
29Being therefore [the] offspring of God, we ought not to think that which is divine to be like gold or silver or stone, [the] graven form of man's art and imagination.
30 Edrychodd Duw heibio, yn wir, i amserau anwybodaeth; ond yn awr y mae'n gorchymyn i bawb ym mhob man edifarhau,
30God therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, now enjoins men that they shall all everywhere repent,
31 oblegid gosododd ddiwrnod pryd y bydd yn barnu'r byd mewn cyfiawnder, trwy u373?r a benododd, ac fe roes sicrwydd o hyn i bawb trwy ei atgyfodi ef oddi wrth y meirw."
31because he has set a day in which he is going to judge the habitable earth in righteousness by [the] man whom he has appointed, giving the proof [of it] to all [in] having raised him from among [the] dead.
32 Pan glywsant am atgyfodiad y meirw, dechreuodd rhai wawdio, ond dywedodd eraill, "Cawn dy wrando ar y pwnc hwn rywdro eto."
32And when they heard [of the] resurrection of the dead, some mocked, and some said, We will hear thee again also concerning this.
33 Felly aeth Paul allan o'u mysg.
33Thus Paul went out of their midst.
34 Ond ymlynodd rhai pobl wrtho, a chredu, ac yn eu plith Dionysius, aelod o lys yr Areopagus, a gwraig o'r enw Damaris, ac eraill gyda hwy.
34But some men joining themselves to him believed; among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman by name Damaris, and others with them.
