¹ Gofynnodd yr archoffeiriad: "Ai felly y mae?"

¹And the high priest said, Are these things then so?

² Meddai yntau: "Frodyr a thadau, clywch. Ymddangosodd Duw'r gogoniant i'n tad ni, Abraham, ac yntau yn Mesopotamia cyn iddo ymsefydlu yn Haran,

²And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

³ a dywedodd wrtho, 'Dos allan o'th wlad ac oddi wrth dy berthnasau, a thyrd i'r wlad a ddangosaf iti.'

³and said to him, Go out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and come into the land which I will shew thee.

⁴ Yna fe aeth allan o wlad y Chaldeaid, ac ymsefydlodd yn Haran. Oddi yno, wedi i'w dad farw, fe symudodd Duw ef i'r wlad hon, lle'r ydych chwi'n preswylio yn awr.

⁴Then going out of the land of the Chaldeans he dwelt in Charran, and thence, after his father died, he removed him into this land in which *ye* now dwell.

⁵ Eto ni roes iddo etifeddiaeth ynddi, naddo, ddim troedfedd. Addo a wnaeth ei rhoi iddo ef i'w meddiannu, ac i'w ddisgynyddion ar ei �l, ac yntau heb blentyn.

⁵And he did not give him an inheritance in it, not even what his foot could stand on; and promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he had no child.

⁶ Llefarodd Duw fel hyn: 'Bydd ei ddisgynyddion yn alltudion mewn gwlad ddieithr, a ch�nt eu caethiwo a'u cam-drin am bedwar can mlynedd.

⁶And God spoke thus: His seed shall be a sojourner in a strange land, and they shall enslave them and evil entreat [them] four hundred years;

⁷ Ac fe ddof fi � barn ar y genedl y byddant yn ei gwasanaethu,' meddai Duw, 'ac wedi hynny d�nt allan, ac addolant fi yn y lle hwn.'

⁷and the nation to which they shall be in bondage will *I* judge, said God; and after these things they shall come forth and serve me in this place.

⁸ A rhoddodd iddo gyfamod enwaediad. Felly, wedi geni iddo Isaac enwaedodd arno yr wythfed dydd. Ac i Isaac ganwyd Jacob, ac i Jacob y deuddeg patriarch.

⁸And he gave to him [the] covenant of circumcision; and thus he begat Isaac and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.

⁹ "Cenfigennodd y patriarchiaid wrth Joseff a'i werthu i'r Aifft. Ond yr oedd Duw gydag ef,

⁹And the patriarchs, envying Joseph, sold him away into Egypt. And God was with him,

¹⁰ ac achubodd ef o'i holl gyfyngderau, a rhoddodd iddo ffafr a doethineb yng ngolwg Pharo brenin yr Aifft, a gosododd yntau ef yn llywodraethwr dros yr Aifft a thros ei holl du375?.

¹⁰and delivered him out of all his tribulations, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he appointed him chief over Egypt and all his house.

¹¹ Daeth newyn ar yr Aifft i gyd ac ar Ganaan; yr oedd yn gyfyngder mawr, ac ni allai ein hynafiaid gael lluniaeth.

¹¹But a famine came upon all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great distress, and our fathers found no food.

¹² Ond clywodd Jacob fod bwyd yn yr Aifft, ac anfonodd ein tadau yno y tro cyntaf.

¹²But Jacob, having heard of there being corn in Egypt, sent out our fathers first;

¹³ Yr ail dro fe adnabuwyd Joseff gan ei frodyr, a daeth tylwyth Joseff yn hysbys i Pharo.

¹³and the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren, and the family of Joseph became known to Pharaoh.

¹⁴ Anfonodd Joseff, a galw Jacob ei dad ato, a'i holl berthnasau yn saithdeg pump o bobl i gyd.

¹⁴And Joseph sent and called down to him his father Jacob and all [his] kindred, seventy-five souls.

¹⁵ Ac aeth Jacob i lawr i'r Aifft. Bu farw ef a'n tadau,

¹⁵And Jacob went down into Egypt and died, he and our fathers,

¹⁶ a symudwyd hwy yn �l i Sichem, a'u claddu yn y bedd yr oedd Abraham wedi ei brynu am arian gan feibion Emor yn Sichem.

¹⁶and were carried over to Sychem and placed in the sepulchre which Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the [father] of Sychem.

¹⁷ "Fel yr oedd yr amser yn agos�u i gyflawni'r addewid yr oedd Duw wedi ei rhoi i Abraham, cynyddodd y bobl a lluosogi yn yr Aifft,

¹⁷But as the time of promise drew near which God had promised to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,

¹⁸ nes i frenin gwahanol godi ar yr Aifft, un na wyddai ddim am Joseff.

¹⁸until another king over Egypt arose who did not know Joseph.

¹⁹ Bu hwn yn ddichellgar wrth ein cenedl ni, gan gam�drin ein hynafiaid, a pheri bwrw eu babanod allan fel na chedwid mohonynt yn fyw.

¹⁹*He* dealt subtilly with our race, and evil entreated the fathers, casting out their infants that they might not live.

²⁰ Y pryd hwnnw y ganwyd Moses, ac yr oedd yn blentyn cymeradwy yng ngolwg Duw. Magwyd ef am dri mis yn nhu375? ei dad,

²⁰In which time Moses was born, and was exceedingly lovely, who was nourished three months in the house of his father.

²¹ a phan fwriwyd ef allan, cymerodd merch Pharo ef ati, a'i fagu yn fab iddi hi ei hun.

²¹And when he was cast out, the daughter of Pharaoh took him up, and brought him up for herself [to be] for a son.

²² Hyfforddwyd Moses yn holl ddoethineb yr Eifftwyr, ac yr oedd yn nerthol yn ei eiriau a'i weithredoedd.

²²And Moses was instructed in all [the] wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds.

²³ "Yn ystod ei ddeugeinfed flwyddyn, cododd awydd arno i ymweld �'i gyd-genedl, plant Israel.

²³And when a period of forty years was fulfilled to him, it came into his heart to look upon his brethren, the sons of Israel;

²⁴ Pan welodd un ohonynt yn cael cam, fe'i hamddiffynnodd, a dialodd gam y dyn oedd dan orthrwm trwy daro'r Eifftiwr.

²⁴and seeing a certain one wronged, he defended [him], and avenged him that was being oppressed, smiting the Egyptian.

²⁵ Yr oedd yn tybio y byddai ei bobl ei hun yn deall fod Duw trwyddo ef yn rhoi gwaredigaeth iddynt. Ond nid oeddent yn deall.

²⁵For he thought that his brethren would understand that God by his hand was giving them deliverance. But they understood not.

²⁶ Trannoeth daeth ar draws dau ohonynt yn ymladd, a cheisiodd eu cymodi a chael heddwch, gan ddweud, 'Ddynion, brodyr ydych; pam y gwnewch gam �'ch gilydd?'

²⁶And on the morrow he shewed himself to them as they were contending, and compelled them to peace, saying, *Ye* are brethren, why do ye wrong one another?

²⁷ Ond dyma'r un oedd yn gwneud cam �'i gymydog yn ei wthio i ffwrdd, gan ddweud, 'Pwy a'th benododd di yn llywodraethwr ac yn farnwr arnom ni?

²⁷But he that was wronging his neighbour thrust him away, saying, Who established thee ruler and judge over us?

²⁸ A wyt ti am fy lladd i fel y lleddaist yr Eifftiwr ddoe?'

²⁸Dost *thou* wish to kill me as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday?

²⁹ A ffodd Moses ar y gair hwn, ac aeth yn alltud yn nhir Midian, lle y ganwyd iddo ddau fab.

²⁹And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojourner in the land of Madiam, where he begat two sons.

³⁰ "Ymhen deugain mlynedd, fe ymddangosodd iddo yn anialwch Mynydd Sinai angel mewn fflam d�n mewn perth.

³⁰And when forty years were fulfilled, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sinai, in a flame of fire of a bush.

³¹ Pan welodd Moses ef, bu ryfedd ganddo'r olygfa. Wrth iddo nesu i edrych yn fanwl, daeth llais yr Arglwydd:

³¹And Moses seeing it wondered at the vision; and as he went up to consider it, there was a voice of [the] Lord,

³² 'Myfi yw Duw dy dadau, Duw Abraham a Duw Isaac a Duw Jacob.' Cafodd Moses fraw, ac ni feiddiai edrych.

³²*I* am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not consider [it].

³³ Yna dywedodd yr Arglwydd wrtho, 'Datod dy sandalau oddi am dy draed, oherwydd y mae'r lle'r wyt yn sefyll arno yn dir sanctaidd.

³³And the Lord said to him, Loose the sandal of thy feet, for the place on which thou standest is holy ground.

³⁴ Gwelais, do, gwelais sut y mae fy mhobl sydd yn yr Aifft yn cael eu cam�drin, a chlywais eu griddfan, a deuthum i lawr i'w gwaredu. Yn awr tyrd, imi gael dy anfon di i'r Aifft.'

³⁴I have surely seen the ill treatment of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groan, and have come down to take them out of it; and now, come, I will send thee to Egypt.

³⁵ Y Moses hwn, y gu373?r a wrthodasant gan ddweud, 'Pwy a'th benododd di yn llywodraethwr ac yn farnwr?' � hwnnw a anfonodd Duw yn llywodraethwr ac yn rhyddhawr, trwy law'r angel a ymddangosodd iddo yn y berth.

³⁵This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who made thee ruler and judge? him did God send [to be] a ruler and deliverer with the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

³⁶ Hwn a'u harweiniodd hwy allan, gan wneud rhyfeddodau ac arwyddion yng ngwlad yr Aifft ac yn y M�r Coch, ac am ddeugain mlynedd yn yr anialwch.

³⁶*He* led them out, having wrought wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

³⁷ Hwn yw'r Moses a ddywedodd wrth blant Israel, 'Bydd Duw yn codi i chwi o blith eich cyd-genedl broffwyd, fel y cododd fi.'

³⁷This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel, A prophet shall God raise up to you out of your brethren like me [him shall ye hear].

³⁸ Hwn yw'r un a fu yn y gynulleidfa yn yr anialwch, gyda'r angel a lefarodd wrtho ar Fynydd Sinai a chyda'n hynafiaid ni. Derbyniodd ef oraclau byw i'w rhoi i chwi.

³⁸This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers; who received living oracles to give to us;

³⁹ Eithr ni fynnodd ein hynafiaid ymddarostwng iddo, ond ei wthio o'r ffordd a wnaethant, a throi'n �l yn eu calonnau at yr Aifft,

³⁹to whom our fathers would not be subject, but thrust [him] from them, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt,

⁴⁰ gan ddweud wrth Aaron, 'Gwna inni dduwiau i fynd o'n blaen; oherwydd y Moses yma, a ddaeth � ni allan o wlad yr Aifft, ni wyddom beth a ddigwyddodd iddo.'

⁴⁰saying to Aaron, Make us gods who shall go before us; for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what has happened to him.

⁴¹ Gwnaethant lo y pryd hwnnw, ac offrymu aberth i'r eilun, ac ymlawenhau yng nghynnyrch eu dwylo eu hunain.

⁴¹And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

⁴² A throes Duw ymaith, a'u rhoi i fyny i addoli s�r y nef, fel y mae'n ysgrifenedig yn llyfr y proffwydi: 'A offrymasoch i mi laddedigion ac aberthau am ddeugain mlynedd yn yr anialwch, du375? Israel?

⁴²But God turned and delivered them up to serve the host of heaven; as it is written in [the] book of the prophets, Have ye offered me victims and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

⁴³ Na yn wir, dyrchafasoch babell Moloch, a seren eich duw Raiffan, y delwau a wnaethoch i'w haddoli. Alltudiaf chwi y tu hwnt i Fabilon.'

⁴³Yea, ye took up the tent of Moloch, and the star of [your] god Remphan, the forms which ye made to do homage to them; and I will transport you beyond Babylon.

⁴⁴ "Yr oedd pabell y dystiolaeth gan ein hynafiaid yn yr anialwch, fel y gorchmynnodd yr hwn a lefarodd wrth Moses ei fod i'w llunio yn �l y patrwm yr oedd wedi ei weld.

⁴⁴Our fathers had the tent of the testimony in the wilderness, as he that spoke to Moses commanded to make it according to the model which he had seen;

⁴⁵ Ac wedi ei derbyn yn eu tro, daeth ein hynafiaid � hi yma gyda Josua, wrth iddynt oresgyn y cenhedloedd a yrrodd Duw allan o'u blaenau. Ac felly y bu hyd ddyddiau Dafydd.

⁴⁵which also our fathers, receiving from their predecessors, brought in with Joshua when they entered into possession of [the lands of] the nations, whom God drove out from [the] face of our fathers, until the days of David;

⁴⁶ Cafodd ef ffafr gerbron Duw, a deisyfodd am gael tabernacl i du375? Jacob.

⁴⁶who found favour before God, and asked to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob;

⁴⁷ Eithr Solomon oedd yr un a adeiladodd du375? iddo.

⁴⁷but Solomon built him a house.

⁴⁸ Ond nid yw'r Goruchaf yn trigo mewn tai o waith llaw; fel y mae'r proffwyd yn dweud:

⁴⁸But the Most High dwells not in [places] made with hands; as says the prophet,

⁴⁹ 'Y nefoedd yw fy ngorsedd, a'r ddaear yw troedfainc fy nhraed. Pa fath du375? a adeiladwch imi, medd yr Arglwydd; ble fydd fy ngorffwysfa?

⁴⁹The heaven [is] my throne and the earth the footstool of my feet: what house will ye build me? saith [the] Lord, or where [is the] place of my rest?

⁵⁰ Onid fy llaw i a wnaeth y pethau hyn oll?'

⁵⁰has not my hand made all these things?

⁵¹ "Chwi rai gwargaled a dienwaededig o galon a chlust, yr ydych chwi yn wastad yn gwrthwynebu'r Ysbryd Gl�n; fel eich hynafiaid, felly chwithau.

⁵¹O stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, *ye* do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers, *ye* also.

⁵² Prun o'r proffwydi na fu'ch hynafiaid yn ei erlid? Ie, lladdasant y rhai a ragfynegodd ddyfodiad yr Un Cyfiawn. A chwithau yn awr, bradwyr a llofruddion fuoch iddo ef,

⁵²Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain those who announced beforehand concerning the coming of the Just One, of whom *ye* have now become deliverers up and murderers!

⁵³ chwi y rhai a dderbyniodd y Gyfraith yn �l cyfarwyddyd angylion, ac eto ni chadwasoch mohoni."

⁵³who have received the law as ordained by [the] ministry of angels, and have not kept [it].

⁵⁴ Wrth glywed y pethau hyn aethant yn ffyrnig yn eu calonnau, ac ysgyrnygu eu dannedd arno.

⁵⁴And hearing these things they were cut to the heart, and gnashed their teeth against him.

⁵⁵ Yn llawn o'r Ysbryd Gl�n, syllodd Steffan tua'r nef a gwelodd ogoniant Duw, ac Iesu'n sefyll ar ddeheulaw Duw,

⁵⁵But being full of [the] Holy Spirit, having fixed his eyes on heaven, he saw [the] glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,

⁵⁶ a dywedodd, "Edrychwch, 'rwy'n gweld y nefoedd yn agored, a Mab y Dyn yn sefyll ar ddeheulaw Duw."

⁵⁶and said, Lo, I behold the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.

⁵⁷ Rhoesant hwythau waedd uchel, a chau eu clustiau, a rhuthro'n unfryd arno,

⁵⁷And they cried out with a loud voice, and held their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;

⁵⁸ a'i fwrw allan o'r ddinas, a mynd ati i'w labyddio. Dododd y tystion eu dillad wrth draed dyn ifanc o'r enw Saul.

⁵⁸and having cast [him] out of the city, they stoned [him]. And the witnesses laid aside their clothes at the feet of a young man called Saul.

⁵⁹ Ac wrth iddynt ei labyddio, yr oedd Steffan yn galw, "Arglwydd Iesu, derbyn fy ysbryd."

⁵⁹And they stoned Stephen, praying, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

⁶⁰ Yna penliniodd, a gwaeddodd � llais uchel, "Arglwydd, paid � dal y pechod hwn yn eu herbyn." Ac wedi dweud hynny, fe hunodd.

⁶⁰And kneeling down, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And having said this, he fell asleep.
